He was trying to hide from the court?

"Hey Antimony, dear. Do you know anything about Mum's dead friends?"
... well, it might have saved him a journey.

I can think of a few reasons. But the beard is acceptable.

Fascinating. and Bismuth is used to represent the sun - and possibly expanded horizons? Though this raises the question - why is Tony all of a sudden back at the Court?? it seems that Annie wasn't the original reason for his abrupt reappearance. But if not Annie, then what did Tony do on his journey that caused the Court to demand his return?? And I expect the Court used Annie's cheating to strongarm Tony, so he'd do what they wanted.

Too bad he hadn't taken more of an interest in that sort of thing while he was at Court. GC was probably the best place for it but I suppose with his disposition he would have needed to go elsewhere first to appreciate that. Assumption my part that he's figured that out.

Well if this is leading towards an explanation where his cold behavior is an attempt to keep Annie safe from being targeted, again some of the deadliest threats are genre savvy.

Is the barren room that Annie is in an anti-spying measure?

Huh. Not the page I was expecting.
I wonder who he's met, though. Maybe a wise old man in a cave who told him it was dangerous to go alone, perhaps.

To prepare for this trip, Tony clearly studied at the Drake-Croft Academy of Adventuring.

It would appear that even Tony isn't privy to the Will of The Court. That must remain a mystery for another day
I had a thought but, no, the 'Court's Eye' does not have Coyote's palette.

Is Tony so sick/thin looking because like Jack, he realized the court was tracking him through food? I know it would imply that they can somehow put trackers in food outside the court which is either unrealistic or even more terrifying than I first thought, but I'm interested in knowing how it spies on people and what powers it has. Microsats 1-4?

Well Tony, I'm sorry, but your "Hmm, I'll go climb up this mountain; maybe from up there I'll be able to spot some afterlife guide" reasoning seems to have some flaws.

Hmm... isn't it rather odd that the bismuth symbol representing the Sun is the very same symbol being used by the Court to represent themselves? Perhaps they had a satellite or two to track Tony himself, or other outsiders that have worked for the Court.

Allow me to briefly cry in joy over the level of depth we are getting to Tony here.

I went away. On a spiritual journey to find the meaning of life. Oh the people I met! The intricacies of life. The subtlety of differences that allows for such a variety of being. Meeting these peoples changed my outlook and opened my mind to the knowledge Donald, the knowledge, that we are all part of one pattern. Humans and ether beings. You, Jones and Anja, Surma and Antimony. We are all one. I feel reborn Donald. Now excuse me because I need to go get my daughter home and have a huge talk with her about everything that kept us apart. Thank you for this heart to heart, but my child must be feeling so lonely and hurt from my absence after the death of our beloved Surma.
... and that is what he did not say. Ever.

The court's ability to track/spy on people is terrifying. But have we ever seen the Court interfere with anyone outside the Court? I am certain the Court would protect itself, but I also think that the Court would let some one like Anthony do whatever he wants as long as it doesn't endanger the Court. Anthony already dislikes the Court and the knowledge that the Court is keeping tabs on him probably grates on him like a grater. Seems like he has something in common with Zimmy.

After Surma's death he does the things that might have lead to him understanding her condition and to forming reasonable expectations. Well, at least he can break out of his mindset and try new approaches but it takes an awful lot to get him to do this.

What if he doesn't know that Antimony is the psychopomp which took Surma, and is trying to reach her ?... I saw the Luke-on-Dagobah reference too, I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one. I hope we'll get some other answers by the end of this chapter.

I believe the symbol surrounding the sun is Tom's metaphorical/symbolic way of saying that the eyes of the Court are essentially everywhere - i.e. they can see wherever the sun reaches.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. I wonder, if someone gave him just enough info, to make him think Surma's soul is retrievable. He may not know the physical target of the "bone lasers", just the Etheric one. Sounds like something Coyote might do.

Oooh! Fascinating page.
I wonder what he discovered.
The title of this thread should have been "Escape the Court's Eye".
This explains how Tony suddenly got good enough with the ether to construct the Bone Lasers, which was another long-standing question.
I like to imagine his "talking with many people" mostly entails him entering their home, sitting around awkwardly for a few hours, then slowly getting up and leaving to find the next one. No words were spoken.
But now we are seeing Tony's compassionate side come into view. Which of course begs the question...why can't he show this compassionate side to his daughter? He was literally willing to go to the ends of the earth to try to save his wife, yet he chipped away at his daughter's self-esteem at every chance he had...
