I was just looking through the archive a bit - is it just me, or does Janet seem to be a bit of an angry girl? Every time we see her she never looks too happy! I hope we see a bit more of her later, she seems pretty interesting!

At first glance, Janet seems to be a female analogue of Winsbury.

Personally, I'd be tempted to say that Janet and Winsbury deserve each other.
One could also suggest that Janet may be, in one sense, like a negative version of Annie. Neither one is at all spooked by Mort while he shows up, but the difference is that Annie is kind about it and offers him some constructive criticism, while Janet simply beats him up and sends him running for his afterlife.
I've probably said this before, but: Janet offers the strongest reason why the other girls at Gunnerkrigg Court should *never* develop a crush on Winsbury.

I'm with Aspen on this one. She IS scary. With the little I can tell about her so far, I get the impression that girl would micro-manage your life. 'Course that's probably just what Winsbury secretly wants... But I'll take sharp pointy teeth over sharp pointy words any day.

So Janet is angry and "speakith in an antiquated tongue."
Perhaps a time traveler. Or maby some kind of faerie. Anyone well read in Celtic literature care to add to this theory?

Maybe she's just from Ireland?
As for well-versed in Celtic literature, that would be me, but remember that the Celts were mainly a European society, and only 'held' the British isles, although that did wind up being the last stronghold of their culture in the end.

Shakespeare's Timon of Athens, Act 4, Scene 3, about half-way down the page in the script:
Timon: Would thou wert clean enough to spit upon!
Some other good ones from that scene:
Apemantus: There is no leprosy but what thou speak'st. Timon: If I name thee. I'll beat thee, but I should infect my hands. ....
Timon: Away, thou issue of a mangy dog!
Good stuff.

Yeah, I can totally see Winsbury as an english school lad. "Winsbury! You can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!"
Um, Janet...I kind of like her, but if she were a real person, I wouldn't like her at all. She's pretty funny, especially when she's terrorizing Mort!

"Winsbury! Stop dipping Janet's hair in ink!" Yeah. But he'd need some sort of long, foppish middle/first name (is Winsbury his first or last name, btw?) Like "William Forthington Winsbury III" or something.

Winsbury is his last name, I think. I know I saw it mentioned somewhere... I think John Cleese should be the one who yells at him. In my mind, that's how I see it... I need sleep. I'm not making too much sense.

It's okay. John Cleese is good at being British and yelling. I understand the thought process perfectly.

"Winsbury! Stop dipping Janet's hair in ink!" If Winsbury ever *did* try dipping Janet's hair in ink, the teacher would have to shout "Janet! Stop beating Winsbury up!"

Oh, of course it's William. Sorry. *hits self on head*
Actually, it sounds better than Edward anyway. Didn't fit him.
Oh, but if they knew the feelings behind that pestering/beating up...

I liked the Janet and Winsbury scene also. That was hilarious.
I hope we see more of her, in spite of her scaring me.
Can anybody else picture her going head-to-head with Annie sometime in the future? Or Kat for that matter. I bet Janet's not too tolerant of free spirits.

As a society, they mainly passed down stories via oral tradition, we have very little evidence of their actual culture FROM the celts, most ofi t comes from other society's of the time periods. I've got a really good book if you're interested, IM if you want the title. Back to Janet: Ooh, thanks for the Shakespeare reference, that makes mroe sense now. I think maybe she thought it was William tryign to pull those tricks on her?
