Fine, make my Janet speculation be 'Scottish' not Irish.

Neat! This is too good to be a coincidence, right? You can't see me of course, but I'm grinning my head off. I love it when this happens!

Tom seems to love this kind of easter-egg. ;D
It should be noted, also, that William of Winsbury and Janet form a couple of sorts in the ballad.

If by "couple of sorts" you mean she gets pregnant and they marry, then I guess you're right.
How can you have any pudding, if you don't eat your meat?

Janet confronting Annie should be fun to see; I think that Janet will learn in a hurry that Annie isn't as easily intimidated as certain small ghosts.

Wow, bringing this back from the dead much?
Anyway, I was re-reading the earlier chapters, and how much Janet's style of being drawn seems to differ from the other's really got me thinking about her importance. The only other character who also seems to be drawn a bit differently is Winsbury.
Also, going with an earlier posted speculation with the Headmaster being almost on par with Coyote in terms of power, wouldn't that make Janet some sort of mini-goddess? That might explain why she's not afraid of ghosts, and is quite.... assertive.
But who knows? I could just be crazy.

When you say that the Headmaster is as powerful as Coyote, do you mean in terms of how much power he has in the Court, or actual godly powers?

There is a theory that the Headmaster is an actual god, almost on par with Coyote. (He can't be more powerful than Coyote, because Tom said so.) As for Janet being a goddess or demigoddess... maybe Winsbury is attracted to power?

I don't think that Headmaster is something like a God, the paralell bewteen Gillite and Court wouldn't work that way (Gillitie has a god, Court does not; Court has trains, Forest does not, and so forth)
BUT of course he must have a strong personality....something that our girl Janet seems to have inherited....and a lot

I love all the speculation going on around here! YEah, I think Willie's naturally attracted to power. Probably that's why he acts up so much, attention from Janet? Being told off counts as attention I suppose. There are lots of people in real life who act up for attention, so it's probably something that's just ingrained in him, the way he acts.
