Nifty coatsI have no idea what's going on in this page, but it's still cool.

Yes. Annie seems a little... shady. I wonder what she's got going on?
Also, the lighting on this page is great.

Heh, we haven't seen Kat in "It's ALIVE! MHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" mode for far too long. It's nice to see her back in her element ;D

Mmmmm. Lasers?
Maybe the formation of interference waves of light from 2 sources of in-phase light?
Prototype death ray?
Annie seems troubled tho. "Oh dear. It would seem that my dear friend Kat is well on the road to becoming a science-villian. How awful."

Maybe the formation of interference waves of light from 2 sources of in-phase light? That's what it looks like, except that Kat seems to be taking that and putting it through an additional single slit. I think.

What does Kat mean by 'the practical'? I have never heard that word used in that way ever.

What does Kat mean by 'the practical'? I have never heard that word used in that way ever. Science practical. In science tests I used to remember, there was the written exam and the practical exam (experiments etc). 2 portions that contribute to the final score. Its a common british term i think. I guess they are just in classes right now tho. King Mir: Does an extra slit have that effect? It looks so "Knight Rider".

It was used at my college in the US as well. It referred to an exam that happened in the science lab and involved carrying out lab procedures and mini-experiments.
I wonder what's on Annie's mind.

Popo --
"The practical" was also used at my college in the United States for the final for lab work. Though in my school's case, the lab class was given as a separate class.
(In my case, I was given beakers with unknown salts dissolved. In three hours, I had to identify the salts. Great fun!)

'Lo, all. I also liked the lighting on this page, but I hadn't checked the mirror site in awhile so I didn't know it was updated any earlier than the main page, which hasn't got today's page yet.
I love it when Kat goes all cracked-out on us. She has the best slang ever, seriously. "Awesome-o"?!!? Oh yeah.
I had no clue people lurked online (well normal people anyway) besides me.

I don't know if it's a result of the lighting, but Kat looks she's lost the tan. This useless observation brought to you by me.

It looks a bit gradual, though; she's a bit lighter, but not completely back to 'normal'. (Although it's hard to believe anything can be just plain 'normal' in GKCourt.)

Aha! Kat is *such* a mad scientist! ;D
At school praticals were just science experiments. I don't think I ever did one that counted towards my grade--only the writing up of it did, not whether or not it worked/went well/we did it.

We use the word 'practical' here in NZ too, so I'm assuming it's also british, not just american. Actually I could have assumed that from the comic, but who cares?!
Also, Awesome-O's should be a cereal.

If (as the title suggests) this chapter deals with the start of Annie's classes with Parley and Smith, that might explain why she seems so worried.
Annie could be uneasy about the classes - maybe she's not certain how good she'll be at them, or maybe she's uncomfortable at the thought that Kat won't be at them with her, but just a couple of older kids whom she doesn't know that well. (And Parley doesn't appear to be that keen on her, either.)

Hey everyone; It's also common in South America to have a practical part of a test, or to have lab practics.
Love Kat in her mad-scientist look, also, the detail on the googles is awesome.
Uhmm, the look on Annie's face worries me; not sure if she's worried for Kat, worried about something that she can't talk to Kat, or worried about something else....confusing XD

Annie is making an incredulous look at Kats fascination with science. While Annie knows a thing or two, she's certainly not at Kats level of skill or shares her enthusiasm about it.

I don't think Annie is as gung-ho about science as Kat is.....
I wonder what the writing is?

I don't think that Kat's really that much of a mad scientist. Her sense of morality and ethics isn't shaky enough for that role.

King Mir: Does an extra slit have that effect? It looks so "Knight Rider". I would normally expect that having two slits followed by one slit would look more or less like a regular one slit pattern. But if the light varies significantly across the one slit the pattern may look somewhat different. If there happens to be a intensity minimum at the middle it may look more like the double slit-like pattern shown in Kat's glasses. But Tom's comment seems to confirm that it's supposed to be simple double slit interference. But then what's going on in panel two? There shouldn't be an interference pattern if you're transitioning between slits.
