So I hope to shift the heart of this project into its own thread to minimize confusion. This thread is for members offering input and feedback in translating Gunnerkrigg Court into the German language, and spectators (because this thread is public).
Also, increased traffic to this board might resurrect work on the Fan Project. Just saying.
EDIT: I totally cheesed it and should have mentioned that @korba is the nucleus of this whole thing. This is his baby, I'm just the OP of the thread.

First order of business: I hate to sound like the group of humans who crash-landed on Earth at the end of The Restaurant at the End of the Universe (spoilers, sorry), but what font would you like me to use when I replace the text? Ale & Wenches doesn't support certain letters that are used in German. Also, if we could keep track of the changes we made to the translated script that'd be great.

Ale and Wenches doesn't have umlauts?
My world is falling apart.

For context, the discussion about translating GC started here.

Also, if we could keep track of the changes we made to the translated script that'd be great. I don't think this is necessary given the number of guys who have actually been changing or discussing the translated script up to this point. Señor Goose, I also don't appreciate you playing captain here. This is something I've sunk 30+ hours into so far, and I don't even get the OP in this thread that's supposed to shift the »heart of the project«. Honestly I find it insulting to be left out of the loop like this. Nevertheless, the OP in the other thread now links to this thread. Feedback continues to be welcome in either of them.

I had not anticipated the OP dispute.

I just wanted to redirect the work into its own thread. I'm sorry I offended you, and I will delete the thread if you want me to.

It's cool, don't worry. Putting the feedback in here so that it doesn't clog up the translation thread is a good idea.

And you had a point, I should have waited for you to weigh in before running off to start a new thread. I'd intended for you to be Thread King anyway :/

And when the Spanish translation starts on earnest (probably within the next week), we can make a thread for that language as well.

This script might feature the problematic characters. I can't test it myself, since I don't have a computer available. If it doesn't, »Insular«, »Uncial« and »Celtic« are probably the keywords that will help you in finding a suitable type.

I am pleased to present the first (as far as I'm concerned) German-translated page of Gunnerkrigg Court. It took a while to get that text bok in the corner right. Mainly because I didn't know whether to use uppercase letters or conventional lettering (the font I used has both, thanks @korba) As it happens, I am extremely pleased at how the title text came out. What do you guys think? What have I done wrong so far?

Huh, the first page doesn't look so bad to translate. But I need input from someone else on my Japanese translation ideas..

What do you guys think? What have I done wrong so far? I think you should use justfied text alignment, not left-oriented, and possibly syllabification as well. At any rate, the left margin should correspond to the right one. Other than that, I like it. Her name is not Anthony, though. The font looks quite appealing, with the one exception of the awkward lowercase G. If the font's license permits it, I'd use a smaller version of the uppercase G instead; if not, I guess one grows accustomed to it fast enough.

The comic's about her father now. Fuck me hard.

Okay, okay, I fixed Anthony's name and justified the text (The text was provoked! It was in self-defense!). Gonna play around with t a little bit before I move on to page 2.

I'm starting to think German grammar is a lot easier to wrap the story around than Japanese grammar.

Page 2. It was a bitch to get the text to fit inside the bubbles, but I think it came out okay.

I think you did a good job there. You're not using the most current version of the translation, though.
»Laufen verboten« might be a tad too small.
