"super epic boring adventure party time" Here, somebody with skills must add a picture of Jones alone in her room with the party hat on her head. Digging in this thread. E: Wow, the thread... just pure hilarity It is, and the credit to whom the credit is due, I stole that picture from that thread. It's on the first page, don't recall who made it but great work!

"But I was just... that was..." "...considering the possibility?" "Yes!" Or it could just be coincidence. Or both of them picked it up from Surma. Or from Jones. A smooth hydrodynamically sound understatement is her style, after all. And even if Kat didn't remember her joking response, shouldn't she at least remember they talked about it, and that Annie din't appear to be homophobic? I doubt Kat paid a lot of attention to the matters all-important for yaoi fangirls, what's with not being one (even if she's a hopeless otaku, obviously). Kat's hair! In panel 4! It goes up again! Well, now we know what Paz sees in Kat, too.

Nothing wrong with boring. I often wish my life was a little MORE boring. On topic: Personally love this particular resolution. It feels real to me. So many of life's anxiety inducing moments between friends really do turn out to be built up out of nothing when they are finally examined closely. I think these last few pages show growth for both Annie and Kat; Kat has gained a better understanding of her friend's insecurities and Annie has had the opportunity to share her fears, be heard, and hear that everything really is alright. I agree, it felt more like I was reading something that actually happened than a story, especially considering that real life is almost never as dramatic as fiction. I'm also just vaguely annoyed that this whole thing was built up so much only for this to be the resolution. But whatever, it's consistent with the characters, so I'll take it and hope we get something more dramatic next time around. Given that "Crash Course" was action-packed full of drama, twists, and epic power-ups I actually liked the contrast of a more mundane peek into the lives of our girls. I have faith in Tom's ability to balance the pedestrian lives of pre-teen girls with the mythic arc of the forest vs. the court. We've got so many mysteries still being resolved! Of course there is more adventure right around the corner. For me, this chapter is just a reminder that while everything else is unfolding Kat and Annie are still school girls with school girl problems and school girl anxieties.

This still isn't the end of the chapter? How much more stuff can there still be? The revelation that Paz is actually an ethericly active mouse, who plans to use Kat's super computer skills to hack the "mainframe" and... get... all the cheese... It's the only thing that makes sense. I was hoping for some more serious discussion, as well, but sometimes characters have a mind of their own. But, Annie's and Rey's mirrored reaction may be a statement, on how some of us think our simple acceptance is special, because everyone else is "traditional". Plus, people in the same situation would already have their heads filled with anxiety. Perhaps, Tom wanted to add some reasonable "It might be fine with them" to the mix.

Also, does Annie look really, really young in this flashback? I think it's because she's either not wearing makeup, or is drawn in such a way that it's hard to see. Moving on- jokes that turn out to not be quite so funny in hindsight. Kinda reminds me of this: xkcd.com/65/Or maybe it's things that don't seem significant until you look at them all in hindsight? I have a well-known reputation for obliviousness.

I've rather enjoyed this chapter. Kinda harkens back to the early days when we saw more of their daily (albeit strange) lives as girls and students, which we don't see much anymore. Also totally called Annie being scared of losing her friend and being alright with Kat dating a girl, though that resolution threw me off. I know I have friends who don't remember thiings they say late at night, and Annie's inability to understand socials norms and what not, extends to her not understanding preconcieved notions of what is taboo. The fact that Annie (as someone else pointed out earlier) took what a very tired and joking Kat said at face value is hilarious and I think in line her character. As to when Annie joked about her world being shaken up at Kat not wanting to see Eglamore, it always seemed kinda sarcastic or something, as if she wasn't actually surprised, but I thought it was more about her crushing on Eglamore being something dumb kid Kat did rather than it being about her dating a girl, which Kat forgot she said.
When did this wall of text appear, I don't remember writing this. >_<

I'm sure she told Annie that she and Paz were hanging out together, and telling her any more would have been purely speculative before a few seconds prior to when Annie found out anyway. In fact, I bet that, if Annie hadn't walked in on It Keeps Happening when she did, Kat would have just told her about it afterwards anyway. And in fact Annie seemed totally unsurprised to find Paz in the room she shares with Kat. So apparently it was already no news to Annie. I suspect Annie was actually thinking "when are they going to admit it?" and now is astonished at how strong her own emotional reaction was when she finally saw them snogging.

This have to be a joke. I mean, does Annie not remember Renard's comment? Either that or they're cut from the same cloth. A couple of parent-less, world-wise stoics, dispensing sage advice that applies to neither of them. zimmyzims x GK Sierra shipper I support this status update.

I don't mind a little slice of life. And honestly, given a teenager's propensity for drama and how difficult coming out can be, especially for kids whose family or peers might not approve, I'm glad they resolved it like this. The whole thing probably felt pretty dramatic for Kat, and I think the world needs more stories where coming out doesn't result in huge bouts of drama. It normalizes everyone being a decent human being about it.

I love Kat's reaction in panel 5. She's in the process of trying to say it was just a joke but at the same time realizing that no, it really was not.
I kind of wish that part of Annie's concern had been that Kat might become romantically interested in her, since that's a problem that a lot of young women have when their best friends find out that they like girls. :/ (Annie is, after all, #superhot)
This is perfectly in character for both of them, though ^-^

And the paintings on the wall... I see a MGS poster and something.. Yeah, here's me overthinking again. There's a robot that looks creepy that I think looks like the poster on the left, which made me think that these were pictures given to her by the robots.

Makes me wonder how they got to that point in the conversation... So, even if Kat wasn't totally serious back then, Annie thought she wasn't opposed to dating girls long before Paz entered the picture. Does that shed some new light on this page? Late night + magazines // completely trivial personality tests = Kat in panel 4 Sounds to me like one of those hypothetical "would you ever..?" games that so many of us play super late at night at sleepovers. Seems like it was either a truth or dare question (though unlikely Annie would ask that particular question), or a hypothetical "truth" question posed by the book / magazine Kat is reading while lying upside down. EG: Would you rather .. never eat ice cream again, or have to have a spoonful of castor oil with every meal? Would you ever ... stick your hand into a jar of worms if your prize was a lifetime supply of chocolate? Would you ever go on a date just to get free dinner? Would you ever date a girl? KAT: sure, if she was SUPER hot, why not?? *late night giggling* and on

Hehehe, traditional. SO funny. Well, this still feels like a cop-out and not a proper hint, but, looking through the other posts, I suppose I could support the 'canon' ship. Slightly.

Daedalus, Understood. He might be skirting a grey area if Tom were to put a fine enough point on it. Still, so far the kid seems to have been making an effort since his slap on the wrist. We can hope, if he continues to try, that he might actually reach the point where he can participate in actual discourse.

And in fact Annie seemed totally unsurprised to find Paz in the room she shares with Kat. So apparently it was already no news to Annie. She already celebrated the end of an era. By placing a foot in her mouth, but still. Late night + magazines // completely trivial personality tests = Kat in panel 4 Sounds to me like one of those hypothetical "would you ever..?" games that so many of us play super late at night at sleepovers. Or manga. We know she watches anime, after all. I wonder - does talking about 'shipping' violate the terms of your parole? Speaking of anime. I want you to know that if you ever meet a joke using the term "memory violation" and mention of cephalopods in the same phrase, you may be the one who inspired it today.

RAGHHGHGH the placement of that flashback is SO BRILLIANT. Of course moments like this must have been happening relatively frequently last year, only we rarely got to see them. I'm glad this one suddenly became relevant. It's just so cute.Haha, it must have taken place around this era.
