$50 says she means it in a purely platonic way. I suspect women generally hold friends more tightly than men do I don't know about that, TBH. I think they just express it in different ways. With men it is more unspoken; i.e. you need a place to sleep, hit me up, girlfriend ditched you, we'll all get together and drink and talk shit about her, somebody beat you up we'll go find him, and etcetera. With girls it's more like emotional support/shoulder to lean on during difficult times.

I wondered about this at first, too, but somehow it would seem just too convenient - the Court's a pretty big place, after all. (Though Paz does seem the type to hide around eavsdropping with a false mustache ) This. I'm not sure if she even knows about the tree room anyways. Though a random idea I had - might there happen to be an animal or two nearby? " Just the rats." (yeah it was probably Paz who thought about it around them in the first place but who knows) Exactly. I was thinking we'd see Paz eavesdropping remotely, and think she's about to cry. Then, she smiles and says "All according to plan. MWAHAHAHA!" But probably not.

So now that we're pretty much at the end of the chapter, what do you guys think the title Thread means? Forgotten about that, I really don't have a clue. Anyone?

I second Gotolei's original impression. D'awww.
I think that probably the title 'thread' is a reference to how this chapter deals with more 'ordinary' subjects, especially compared to the chapters immediately before it (Crash Course and Quicksilver, I'm looking at you.) Also it may be about the 'thread' of Kat's life, or about the 'thread' that binds Annie and Kat or Paz and Kat together. It could be several, or, more likely, none of these.
Edit: I think most likely it's about the thread between Kat and Annie, which may one day lead one of them out of some labyrinth.

So, what is Romanic Lighting anyway? Does it mean that Kat bought the lamp from Rome? Or that it is made in France?

I agree with the edit choice; one day, that thread may lead them out of the labyrinth they are currently in!

Normally it's chapter end on Monday, bonus page Wednesday and new chapter title page Friday. So maybe next week? Isn't there a Word of Tom where he says it's all automated so he doesn't check to make sure they all end on the same day? Or are the chapters the same number of pages long every time? Well, one simple explanation of the available evidence is that he tries to have most chapters end on the same day of the week (whether he actually tried for Monday, or whether when he started this behavior the first chapter just happened to end on Monday and he stuck with it, cannot be evaluated). The most telling thing is that when a chapter does NOT end on a Monday, the next chapter usually does. If he were going for consistent-length chapters and one chapter just happened to need an extra page, you'd expect most chapters to end on the same day as the previous chapter, no matter what day that is. If he weren't trying (intentionally or unintentionally) for any pattern at all, there'd be no correlation on chapter-end days. However, there are ways this could be an unintended consequence of the way Tom works. If he habitually works on a week's worth of pages at the same time, that will tend to push the chapter-end wrap-up page into the next week...

Oh no! Two people can't possibly like each other a whole bunch without wanting to touch each other's privates.
I'm reminded heavily of two guys I've known since college. THEY knew each other since high school, and were pretty much BFFs for life. I recall one of them actually making it quite clear to a girlfriend that, all things being equal, their old friend would come first.
It just amuses me to think that, were these two friends of mine characters in a show or comic or something, shippers would be arguing their hearts out that they are totally meant for each other or something. Which would be ludicrous.

I've even known some people to assume that I was dating my best friend, because he was a boy.

I think Paz already understands Annie and Kat's relationship. Im sure she will feel jealous at times like when they moved in together, but she doesnt seem the type to go psycho beetch on them. And Kat built a friggen hovercraft to save Annie (which we havent seen for a long time, come on hover robots Tom) so I think Paz can rest easy in that last line being platonic.
I do wonder how they are gonna split up tents the next time they go camping though.

Anything can be turned into pairings by fans. The only questions are: 1) Is the given fan into it? 2) Is the given fan crazy enough?Perhaps they'll share the same tent, all three. Giggity. But seriously I can see hilarity ensuing with that. Let's see: - Annie & Kat - old friends and weird-opposite-soulmates. - Kat & Paz - blushingly/gushingly all over each other. - Annie & Paz - etheric shop-talk / training. This could actually shape well. Though still not without hilarity, of course.

Im really interested in how their group dynamic will play out from now. Will it be like "New party member gained!" and Paz joins in on all their etheric and robotic adventures. How much does she already know about what Annie does? Also how will this change Paz's life. We dont know much about what she does outside of the animal lab and hanging out with Kat. And then poor Kat is gonna be stuck in the middle of the two of them vying for her time. Who ends up as the third wheel or do they come together and form the perfect tricycle? And will we ever get the name of her hairdresser?

And will we ever get the name of her hairdresser? I won't be surprised if the bonus page shows that one Seraph walking out of the barber shop sporting a beautiful brunette bob-cut wig.

And Kat built a friggen hovercraft to save Annie Thank you, I wanted to mention this as support for Kat's sincerity when she says (presumably hyperbolically in that teen-aged conversational way) "I would do anything for you." Kat bounces back in ways that Annie doesn't, so I find this part of the chapter to be highlighting the fact that Kat thrives in change and is willing to experiment in order to learn things that are hard for anybody to figure out (double-physics, personal interests, coping with your new friend suddenly leaving, the importance of smooching, techniques of getting smooches) but Annie dreads it in an existential way. When Annie returned from her experience in the forest, and found that Kat wasn't ready to be all smiles with her, Annie tried to set up an adventure because that's how things have been before. She didn't try talking to Kat again because she's never tried talking things through with Kat before. Annie has basically only apologized for misdeeds and hoping that it works. Annie might be internalizing the notion that they won't always find adventures to bring them together. And Annie has never wanted enough space away from Kat that she requests/demands it of Kat, but Kat has, and Annie thinks of it as her fault. Annie sees that she has made Kat push her away twice now, so now she's afraid of doing it once more. Perhaps she associates the idea of someone spending less time & less time with her as basically the same as actively rejecting Annie and wanting nothing to do with her?

And the page before that admitting to be jealous when they moved in together. Paz is over the jealousy and is moving forward with her relationship with Kat. I don't think there will be any friction between her and Annie. Maybe a little awkward shyness in the "how am I supposed to talk to her now" way, probably from both of them.

I think that is a pretty good description of how their friendship has been so far. Annie doesnt have the same social experiences that Kat has (even though she didnt have many friends before Annie) and this sort of social change is some Annie is not goo at coping with like after her summer in the forest. Annie can have all the experience dealing with etheric beings, but she isnt very good with people yet.

And Kat built a friggen hovercraft to save Annie That wasn't a hovercraft, that was an antigravity ship. She built the antigravity device out of a thermos and some coat hangers. Side note: on the current comic, the two panels that form the bottom can be read in either order and it works just fine.

Hover - To float off the ground Craft - constructed vehicle antigravity - informal, to resist effects of earth's gravity, causing floating off of ground ship - vehicle I don't... no... hang on...

Haha, I think how much you'll defend these as separate things depends on how much you're into sci-fi. Informally, sure they're the same, but something can also hover due to magnetic repulsion/attraction, so saying antigrav is a bit more specific. And more impressive. No one's really figured out antigravity, but we have meglevs.
(Not a scientist, just like sci-fi, take the above with a helping of salt twice daily.)

Hovercraft normally refers to air-cushion vehicles, as far as I know. These have the notable advantage of working on both land and water without any adjustement necessary. However, they do not fly.

Why is Antimony's face and posture in the last panel so... sappy? I thought Tom was intentionally drawing her to look younger/more childish as a visual cue to her current vulnerability. Or maybe drawing scenes from when she was younger is subtly influencing how he draws her in the present. Or maybe it's neither, and I'm reading too much into it.
