Three first panels: Till there was you, adapted to a non-verbal webcomic medium? There were birds in the sky But I never saw them winging No, I never saw them at all Till there was.... Annie!

In other words, Tom has some specific reason why the conversation with Annie has to go "okay so you walked in on something, here's an explanation of what you just saw" instead of "hey friend I've got some good news". There are a few problems with this. 1) He may or may not need such a reason in the first place. If he did it the other way around, someone could say that Tom has some specific reason why the conversation with Annie has to go "hey friend I've got some good news" instead of "okay so you walked in on something, here's an explanation of what you just saw". 2) If you happen to be right, well... that's still Gunnerkrigg Plot Maze we're talking about. Do you really expect to guess anything this easy? 3) Even if this wasn't done by Tom, an echo of "Annie tiptoes away, all subtle-like" scene could be all the reason needed to do it.

Argh... everyone's talking plot in such a complicated way! Well, there's more conflict this way right, if Annie walks in on them? It's more interesting than just Kat saying "I'm with Paz." It leaves room for a potential "what if AnniexKat exists?" ...I don't actually think it's likely, but it makes you think

That feeling is very distracting. Some would say reality altering. I'm surprised her response was "Annie". Instead of "Oh, Annie. Yeah... I'd better find her. *long happy sigh*" It's a bit different when your best friend that doesn't 100% know you're gay (Annie's much too insightful to be completely in the dark) catches you making out with your boyfriend (or girlfriend, in Kat's case). There's a level of panic when you get caught and you're not out. In fact, I'm rather surprised Kat didn't just immediately tear away and chase Annie down. When I got caught by my best friend having my first kiss with my at-the-time-soon-to-be-but-now-ex boyfriend before I came out to him, I ripped myself away from my ex to do damage control ASAP. And then we resumed macking on each other. Point in your favor, though: the half hour or so after was very reality altering indeed.

Aww, Kat's goofy smile is priceless. Given that she stares at the wall and smiles, Kat is pretty far out of it. If Annie was worried that Paz will be Kat's first priority then she's right. I hope that they'll talk things out and stay friends by the end of this chapter. Why would Annie worry? Given that "end of an era" already is registered, and all that.

Bonus page possibility: A random robot rolls along the sidewalk and comes across the forgotten lab coat. Question marks. Unnamed robot looks around for a few seconds, sneakily stows it. Rolls off innocently. To this day Kat doesn't know where that coat went (it was her favorite one). That or Kat rushes out of the workshop on Monday, just to find Boxbot stuck in it

bonas page: all the robots are making out Is this why they referred to as 'clanks' in some circles? My thought for monday (prob: 30%): . Kat (realising it's later-r-r...!): "Annie!" Annie (sitting on a bench behind Kat): "Well at least you still remember I exist!" Kat (leaping six foot): " ACK!"

I wonder if... Maybe this is the first time that Annie has ever had to share Kat with anyone! I think that Annie only spends time with Kat. Kat seems to be Annie's only human friend. Maybe the story will show Annie grow, and have to spend time with more people during the week, + not just see Kat.
[P.S. This is my 1st post to the forum. Cool forum!]

Kat is Annie's only teenage friend who always had free time to hang out with.

This is what I am worried about. I doubt Annie is upset by The Gay, but she will probably be jealous that Kat is spending time with someone else now and even if she were to chill with them she would feel like a 3rd wheel.

[interprets as irrelevant to "is Kat bi" debate] Annie did seem to be kind of third-wheeled during the whole Aly thing. [ 233] They'd spend all this time together, talking about pop culture and whatnot, and Annie was left to..you know... book. There's also this (choosing to go by her given name instead of her nickname), so it seems she was kind of wary from the getgo. But a fair amount of time has passed since then, so who knows. Even then she made sure Kat had a proper good-bye, after all.

Aly. Don't tell me you folks have forgotten Aly already? Someone else can answer this better than I. Seeing that with only your part of the quote, I guess I should have replied to nero's reply, not to yours. That's where the "never" and "always" enter, after all ...

I never thought that was "wary". I think it was more "I'll be distant to make sure I'm not in the way for her". If anything she was trying to be a KatAly-st. (Granted, she also wasn't entirely sure what to do with herself while the relationship was going on.) She also seemed pleased on another occasion when she (mistakenly, and briefly) thought a boy was interested in Kat. Compare her expression in panel 4 versus the last panel.
