I really like the Ysengrin one. But Lord Coyote demands one to be made in his godly likeness! (though I guess he's not bipedal, so I can see the difficulties)

(though I guess he's not bipedal, so I can see the difficulties) I think I actually did try making coyote, but it's not too much of a bipedal problem as it is where his colors are. I think they kinda change depending on the angle somehow. He's just too 2D to be 3D.

I wasn't talking about shapshifting, more like how for example his outline is red, you can't do that in a minecraft skin. Actually, I'll attempt coyote again. Brb, making skin...

I like it! Now I just need to buy Minecraft! Or you could torrent it... Mwehehehe... I was about to say this, but I didn't want to be a dick. Some people might not like Notch, but I usually support the indie guys because they deserve it. Minecraft is worth 20 Euro. A big 50-60 dollar release by a soulless mega-development studio? Go for it.

He probably sees pirating like radio or the poor man's option. You know, some rich people don't particulary care about that, like Skrillex, actually.

If you want to support creators, pay them no matter who they work for. Especially since just about anything is available for $10 in the bargain bin a year later.

You know, some rich people don't particulary care about that, like Skrillex, actually. Yeah, there's a lot of evidence that sales of media releases actually go up when pirating is available, but it's still nice to know you're validating a business model you support. My rule of thumb is, if you can shell out for an unlimited data plan for some smartphone it's not much to ask to kick in a bit of money to help out the little guy. I don't want to be a dick either but...There's no such thing as a big soulless studio - every game is made by people. If you want to support creators, pay them no matter who they work for. Especially since just about anything is available for $10 in the bargain bin a year later. True, but the employees that are slogging it out on the development room floor, tripping over cables and spending longs nights tearing their hair out over bugs are going to get paid anyway, regardless of sales. And honestly, that setup, with 100s of people in one room, doesn't seem to produce better games. Small-studio games hardly ever release a game that is in an un-patched state, unlike big studios which seem to be crapping out unfinished work simply as a matter of course now. A small studio or individual person is usually kicking in their own money for this, or some venture capital if they're stupendously lucky, so they are much more connected to their business model. Whereas EA... they can just fire the studio they're contracting and write it off against the massive profits from making five new sports games every year that are functionally identical to the old ones.

Plus, with pirated copies of Minecraft you have to download and install a new torrent every time there is an update.

God forbid.

I sense that this debate may turn into another of the oddly well-reasoned arguments that occasionally occur on this forum. God forbid. Nah, I've pretty much said my bit: Either a game is worth playing, and you wait for its price to drop to what you're willing to pay for it, or it's not worth playing...in which case you just don't play it. I don't buy that there's this grey zone where a game is terrible and iterative, but you still want to download and play it for free. I also don't buy that shrinking profits are more likely to entice EA to treat its employees better than growing profits. Lacking a common premise, there's not much conversation to be had. As a developer who doesn't work for an 'indy' company, I know I still want the company I work for to get paid for the product I produce.

I don't think I've ever pirated a game, but I don't really disapprove of it. I study game design myself, and I think I wouldn't see a pirate as a lost sale really. just a pirate.

I wasn't saying big studios make only terrible or iterative games, that was just a little poke at titles like FIFA and NBA.
They do seem to make more than their fair share of disappointments, but despite debacles like the SimCity release, EA still has a lot of games that I like.

There's a cool 1.8 feature I think you'd like. They've changed the way skins work so there's now a jacket, pants and hat layer. With the option in player settings to turn each piece off on one arm, one leg, both arms, both legs or on the hat. Just thought you'd find it cool, especially on Shadow and Robot. Heck maybe Yengrin too if you want to do creepy hairless version as an option, but that might look funny. imgur.com/A1W70B8

COYOTE WITH A TOPHAT. IT MUST BE DONE. I'm sorry to rain on ones parade, best that could be done in a pork pie hat, they only give you 1 pixels high above the head space. Unless we make the top hat oversized and it covers most of his head (which would also be funny.) but the add/remove hat thing is nothing new, that's been around for quite a while. It's the rest which is new. The Vest/Jacket/Pants layer. E Examples of vest/jacket/pants layer if you preview on a 1.8 skin viewer or upload it to your character in 1.8 version of mc you'll see what I mean.

Very interesting, I have my hands full right now, I'm making a shitty comic that somehow requires effort from my side and I get inspired to create music at the wrong times too. I'm looking forward to trying out the new layers and stuff though. Seems like my prayers have been answered, thank you o great notch.

Reading through this recently revived thread, I feel the need to point out to everyone that Notch hasn't been lead developer of Mojang/Minecraft in years (since 2011). You should probably be thanking/not stealing from Jeb (Jens Bergensten) at this point, for updates at least. Notch isn't even mentioned on the "thankyous" for the 1.8 update blog post.
Just a fun fact. Of course, Notch did make the game in the first place. So there's that.
