Yeah I reckon it's that too.

The game sells itself, and with such a large amount of the core being based around modding, apart from unmoddable versions such as pocket and Xbox and Playstation, there's nothing they can force players to pay for in-game that hasn't already been modded in.

The backlash of them even attempting is enough for many players to just make a fanhack version and leave the microsoft version in the dust if they do anything silly like that.

So I think they'll just do like they did when they bought other indie devs that had smash hits, let them do there thing but merch the fuck out of it in every possible way.
