Jones, if anything, seems to be trying to look bored. The headmaster, meanwhile, has given up all pretense of disinterest.

Smitsengrin? Is this a name for a new shipping? On another note: It's cool to see Smits back up Annie so quickly after obtaining medium status, and you just know it will go well because Smits says so, haha.

Well, they've made the Headmaster mad.
I think that counts as a day well spent.

Well that shoots my theory down that if she took it, the court would still support her. That's kind of..horrible. On the other side or not, she's still a student and a minor and they're still a school that needs to take care of her. I assume they only mean within the forest itself but what if something happens? They wouldn't send her any help? That's a terrible message to send! If anything, taking that job and having personal allies in the court while being a medium for the forest is to the court's benefit, this should be right up their alley. But good for you, Smitty and Parley, you are very mature and generous. Even Ys, good on ya! He may have lost the memory of the attack but even after getting his job taken from him, he's still willing to protect Annie. Good friends, nice friends.

Haha, "your student". It's like when one parent gets mad at their kid - it's always the other parent's child.
I'm hoping the headmaster/leaders of the court weren't stupid enough to think Coyote was just going to let them do whatever. Come on guys, read more mythology.
Oooh, I wonder if Coyote is using Ysengrin to get Annie to come to the forest - reverse what Surma pulled earlier.
Also, I love how happy Parley looks with Smitty. D'awww.

So, the headmaster had some f*cks to give left after all! On a side note, all those who thought that Smitty would be a simple obedient servant of the court are already proven wrong. Hah!

It's fun to see how the headmaster's plan is blowing up in his face. He did something stupid and it's obvious he is paying for it now.

It's fun to see how the headmaster's plan is blowing up in his face. He did something stupid and it's obvious he is paying for it now. I would still wait before judging. There is a possibility that this is all part of a larger ruse. The situation of Smitty, Parley and the Carver girl dealing the relations of the Forest and the Court between them seems hardly beneficial for either party's self-interested plans - although much beneficial to both in terms of guaranteeing peaceful relations -, but as long as we are not fully aware of the plans it is hard to tell what is the part planned for each of the students. While it would be outright idiotic of Court's part to fully abandon a talent like Annie, we are by no means assured that that would be what they were doing. Only that they decided she's not the medium. If the medium and the protector were the only positions open for these kids, then this seemed like a bad choice. Think about this in terms of selecting university students, company trainees or sports prospects: anybody who is in a leading position and wishes to go to the very top will prefer talent over maturity when choosing youngsters to his stable. These kids are, what, 14-15-year-old? You do not dismiss a talent of that age for her being immature or not obeying, because that is what you teach her afterwards. The raw talent is what matters. With regard to the etheric things, Annie has doubtless top level talent, being a half-demon herself. I doubt heavily that the court, or the headmaster, was ever going to force her in to the mould of a "regular" student (if they have a one). Instead, they must have some plans for her, and the headmaster might also be bluffing now. If, hypothetically, it was the Court's plan to get Annie to the Forest basically at least to some extent a double agent, he might be wise to play it so that it seemed that he does not want that: Annie would fire-up a bit and go there just in order to resist his will, and Coyote would think he did a good move. So, it might also be that he wants to make it look like his plans backfired, while he is actually getting everything the way he wanted. In lack of knowledge about his plan, we cannot say which way this went. There are in another thread listed many good reasons as why would the headmaster want Annie for the Forest medium.

And after this meeting, the Headmaster will go into a deep sleep, having used up all his energy on the short amount of fucks he's allotted to give in a month. This is why he slouches and looks so tired, you guys! He has almost no fucks to give, he turned around twice in his seat, that's nearly all of them right there. Nearly all the fucks just *poof* gone.

I might be stupid but what do they mean with "support" from the court? Do they mean the opportunity to live, eat and study at Gunnerkrigg? Cause that seems like an awful lot of power to hand to one student.

Man, this chapter was obviously made to make me happy. If Jones or Annie can figure out what happen to Ysengrin based on his last coment, all my hopes for this chapter will be answered.

I'm of the opinion that Jones supports the idea of Annie becoming the Forest Medium, simply because she did not oppose it.
It's also hilarious to watch the Headmaster's decision backfire on him - Annie ceased being Jones' student just a few comics previously, and now Jones is using that against him.

On the other side or not, she's still a student and a minor and they're still a school that needs to take care of her. True. Though considering what Paz has said, I think the court technically might still support her- just counter to it's headmaster's will. I would still wait before judging. There is a possibility that this is all part of a larger ruse. ... While it would be outright idiotic of Court's part to fully abandon a talent like Annie, we are by no means assured that that would be what they were doing. Only that they decided she's not the medium. It may be things are still going according to the headmaster's plan, but the obvious explanation is that he did want her to be the medium, but wanted to withhold the position temporarily as a bargaining chip.

the obvious explanation is that he did want her to be the medium, but wanted to withhold the position temporarily as a bargaining chip. Why would this be the obvious explanation? To me it seems almost far-fetched. It would be quite a risk to loose her from the Court's hold for a longer time and then to come back to ask her for medium again. Let's say, it would be incredibly naive from a party as tricky as the Court.

This could be exactly what the Court intended, letting Coyote think he pwned the Court when they actually wanted Annie to replace Ysengrin. And Coyote is amused to let them think they tricked him. Wheels within wheels....

You think I don't know a ruse when I see one?Good for you, because I sure don't. LBoB is losing a lot of face here, alienating his own people/allies and getting them to stand against him in public. Last panel is full of lolwut.

Well, seems we now know exactly how much of Ysengrin's memory was taken. Or maybe hes doing this out of loyalty to Coyote's wishes, and not out of fondness for Annie. In which case we're back to where we started. Jones emotions or not, she must have some form of satisfaction for being able to ignore his wishes after his silly posturing. That last panel...what will Eglamore think if Annie accepts? Will he mention the attack out loud?

It just occurred to me, but if annie and smitty become the two mediums, won't it be really peaceful?!
That's junk! Boo! Boo, I say!
I was expecting at -least- one major forest/court all-out battle to break out.
