Anyway, this page references The Prodigy, but by album rather than any specific song. (If I had to pick a song, it would be "Voodoo People", one of my favorites from Jilted.) This page quotes from Kate Rusby's "Playing of Ball". I don't remember the chapter or page, but Kat has a Sparklehorse poster on her wall. During my weekend reread I noticed M4tJG too but don't know it well, so just downloaded it... and I must say I don't know any Sparklehorse either! Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to find some way of getting "Playing of Ball" in there too

Annie & 'Annie Get Your Gun' go well together. Ah man, that's a classic. Now if only Antimony had another of Coyote's teeth that turned into a level-action .45-70, and she'd be ready for any number of future plot twists.

Quite a bit of industrial music reminds me of Gunnerkrigg Court itself, especially Nine Inch Nails and Ministry. Laser MachinesRight. I have the same thought

This one makes me think of the Fire Spike chapter every time I hear it. It just seems to fit so well. It starts out slow but brooding and then suddenly it just breaks down into a twisted but beautiful crescendo, not unlike what Annie goes through when Renardine tells her of her mother's death.
I don't have any particular reason for associating this one with Gunnerkrigg, there's just something that makes me think of it:

That game left me speechless after the ending. There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city. Give us the girl and wipe away the debt.

It borrowed a lot of things from Fringe and the whole String Theory applications and alternate realities in the game's story was astounding. It was a very brave game that tackled real issues and sensitive topics in our world. A true masterpiece like its predecessors. Even if the game ended in a bitter-sweet note.
There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city. Blew me away. Those were all constants. Constants and Variables. No wonder it's called Bioshock: INFINITE because there were infinite ways to play it. Some may have used a sniper, some may have chosen the bird cage, some may thrown the ball at the couples, some may have took a much longer time just wandering around and admiring Columbia. All Variables.
Who cares if the game was "too violent" or there were no game changing decisions or it was "too offensive" or "it was poking fun at American exceptionalism and ideals". The game's ending was enough to warrant a purchase.
It's art. A mastepiece... Something we'll look back to when we're older and say "Let's see what came out of good ol' 2013?" (Old man's voice)
Okay... okay... I'm done with my fan boy rave... Sorry for bringing up Bioshock at a GC forum. It just one of those games that touches your heart and pulls your heart strings. One that you could grab really tight and press it close against your chest and never ever let go. It's similar to Zimmy's spiders...

I have some weirdly mixed feelings about Bioshock Infinite. The gameplay part of it was decent enough but not really spectacular in any way and honestly not that interesting and even a bit frustrating at times. The beginning of the story was nothing short of amazing, but for a very long time in the middle of the game nothing much seemed to happen until the ending, at which point it again became absolutely enthralling. The setting, while being the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a video game and with some amazing interactions with the npc characters initially. Again, while it was visually dazzling from start till finish, the ambience and atmosphere really kind of petered out a bit as there were no more npcs to add depth and when things like the handymen and the vigors lacked an explanation for their existence. (These are indirectly explained by the ending of course, but that's still annoying when playing through it.)
Despite all this though, I adore this game and I completely agree that it is a piece of art, despite it not living up to all of its ambitions. Brilliant, brilliant game.

Yeah, the game-play was a bit repetitive. It was almost like an interactive movie.
I didn't really mind, though. It was consciously poking fun at the linearity of big-release titles, and I think they pulled that off spectacularly while keeping a straight face and not breaking the immersion.

It was crushed under its own ambitions... But at least it tried to be a bit different not like every shooter release lately (I'm looking at you CoD...)

Pretty sure this song's about deities in general, and the ideas behind them, but parts of it make me think of Coyote. Especially the "I'm not real" just before the solo. And the whole concept is almost exactly how etheric beings work in Gunnerkrigg.

Both GLaDOS songs. I sometimes see Jones speaking with some lines from them.

Whenever I see the Cherry Tree Room, I think of this song. When I first heard it, I stopped walking and just stood still until it was over. You know a piece of music is good when you feel like a slightly different person afterwards.

Alicia Keys's "Girl On Fire" reminds me of Annie, and how Rey and Coyote (and several other characters) would describe Annie has "having fire inside her." Also, when Annie had set her hair on fire... And then this, Kat: "Whoa, you set your hair on fire?!" Annie: "I thought it might look impressive..." Also, at the part of the song that goes: "She's living in a world, and it's on fire," I would always think of "the world" as the "Ether." I dunno, the song just makes me think about Annie... it also reminds me of Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, hahaha.

Daft Punks' Harder Better Faster Stonger. It suits the court in its bid to become stronger or something else that sounds a tiny bit deep.

In light of the revelation about Annie's true nature, it seems that every song that ever mentioned fire is now relevant. Or even better, a Phoenix. Both due to the metaphor and this. So... Dreamtale - Firebird?

Hadn't really thought about it until I found this thread... I hope these aren't too much of a stretch? Not exact, but the chorus reminds me a lot of Diego's bitterness towards Jeanne. And this one for the moment Parley decides to confess her love for mighty eyebrows boy.

So here's a song for Jack... (I had forgot the name of the band. Finding it through the title of the song only turned out to be... Challenging. Almost as much of a challenge as that time I attempted to find a song where I only knew that it was a punkish song about a dude oraling another dude in a hotel. >__>)
