That's a bolt from the blue. The very last thing I expected. And the end of the chapter.

That Siddell is one sneaky Mister. So she didn't "Hear" from her father for two years. Now that she's heard from him...we may not get any questions answered anyway. But boy will Annie have some tough ones for dad.

That speech bubble is fun. I'm sure it's nothing. Angular = electronic. Gray for the static, kinda like the background noise in Spring Heeled (I dunno for a better example. Have we had bad cell reception in comic before?). But I'd be surprised if the medium isn't the message here (isn't it always w/ cell phones in entertainment?). Annie's father: distant, damaged, incapable of complete sentences! You know... it almost wouldn't be worth saying at all if it wasn't so visually apparent.

I had expected her father to contact her at the *end* of year 3 (since the "over two years" comment coincided with the end of year 1) but it probably meant over two years since she last heard from her father -- since she last heard from him before she even went to Gunnerkrigg...

My goodness I wasn't expecting that. Oh gosh, I hope it doesn't undo the progress Annie's made. She's been smiling so much recently, so much more assured and relaxed. Does Antony have the faintest clue how she's growing up? Gah, so many unanswered questions!
The contrast of frolicing with former fairies and woodland creature in the ether to a call from her father is interesting too.
I bow down at your story telling, Tom. Amazing.
For now, I have matters to attend to.

Oh my! I wasn't expecting that! P.S.: Rey will kill him... For all he has done... Also: Epic chapter! Love it!

I have a horrible suspicion that the next chapter will not answer any questions about the conversation Annie's about to have.

Yes! THE perfect timing for everyone to go blah blah bl... WHAAAAAAAAAT?I bow to thee, Tom. You caught absolutely everyone off guard. [slightly off topic] And jeez, people moaning about "no plot progression". It's a comic about both people AND stuff happening, with a healthy dosage of humour. It has to have moments like Chapter 34 or the previous pages of this one. It makes it oh-so-much sweeter, unexpected and multi-dimensional when something serious happens, like so.

Wow, that was one hell of a sucker punch. Annie dealing with what her father tells her during this phone call is enough material for a chapter.

Maybe Tom changed his mind, or forgot Annie's statement at the end of Chapter Fourteen. (We know that he's writing and drawing "Gunnerkrigg Court" on his own, and so doesn't have an editor or beta-reader to point these things out to him.)

Not probable, since he even quotes the exact comic you mention in his comment, as pointed above. One thing we can safely assume is that he knows his stuff. VERY muchly.

It's been over two years since she last saw or heard from her father. It's been less than that since the end of chapter 14.

This is amazing. We're all happy and excited with the fairies and Shadow 2 and BAM! Anthony Carver. Wow. Tom, you're brilliant.
Just please, PLEASE let the next chapter start with the phone call.

Gonna jump in to guess that next chapter will be Annie's time in the forest. Because Tom is that much of a tease.

"Have a silly episode and then end it on a serious hook." Avatar TLA did this shit all the time and it's STILL a fantastic way to write. It just works.
Are all the budding writers taking notes?
