Undercover cop posing as a stable boy?
The forum has sure been quiet this past week.
Also, what is with the forums? This is the third time in a row that they've freaked out at midnight.

This was just as hilarious as William's version. Oh god. Someone predicted this, right?

Yeah I had a bit of trouble with it for a second there. I just assumed it was my connection as I am currently bootlegging off a network cable I unplugged from one of the lab terminals. Maybe the sudden influx of people checking at midnight upsets the server? That would be my guess.

Also: A truly beautiful page! I love it!
P.S.: I wonder, what true story looks like?

It happened one evening, at the playing of ball When first I met Willie, he was proper, he was tall He was neat fair and handsome, and straight in each limb There's a heart in me bosom, and it's aching for him
- First verse of "Playing of Ball", traditional, sung by Kate Rusby
I expect this will be confirmed when Tom answers the formspring questions I just asked.
I am such a geek.

William is wearing a necklace with a cross on it. How well does Christianity mesh with a school whose students include valkyries and faeries, which regularly receives visits from gods and godlike entities? I mean I guess on the one hand having Coyote all up in your business could make the events of the Bible seem a lot more plausible, but on the other it's kind of undermining the whole faith concept and miracles when one of your classmates can summon flames from nowhere and another gained the ability of flight after being infected by a magic brain spider.

Note that this is the only time we've seen anyone in the comic wearing a symbol of any faith, and it's in an imaginary situation that clearly never happened. It says more about Janet than it does about Winsbury, it being her fantasy, although I don't know what it is saying. Or perhaps it reflects Tom's attitudes to organised religion, who knows, you could write a paper on this stuff.

Well, I'd have been quite disappointed in myself if I had not been the one to point it out. I did start this thread once upon a time, after all. Never really took off, that one.

I predict that when someone new to the comic archive binges in a couple of months time they are gonna be a little confused right about now. UlyssesIt might not be saying anything about her faith personally, maybe more about the stereotypical sort of stuff she's been reading. I.E. she asscociates that era/time with christianity being the common religion.

That may well be just a part of his "costume", as we've never seen any indication that he wears one in real life. As far as Christianity fitting in, God isn't the only supernatural being in the Bible, so while it probably takes some getting used to for Christians, I doubt it's that hard for them to deal with. Can't see them worshipping coyote, though. Not that I think anyone else does.

There is only one possible logical explanation: William is a robot.

Well, Willie is named after the song Willie O' Winsbury. If Tom goes down that route, Willie will get Janet pregnant, the Headmaster will order him hanged, but be so captivated by Willie's beauty that he'll spare his life and wish he could sleep with him.

He's probably just wearing it to wear it. The cross necklace has become something of a general piece of jewellery in recent years, and doesn't necessarily point to a kind of faith. Although then again, this is an old-timey-style story thing, so maybe modern fashion trends aren't all that relevant. Faith in the Court is an interesting topic though. As a Christian myself, I'm not sure exactly how I'd handle being at the Court with all the weird magic and stuff going on. If you apply Christian theology to it all, then you'd probably end up calling everyone a demon, or at least calling Coyote and Whitelegs demons. To be honest, that's why I'm glad the comic hasn't gone there. No-one needs their fun fantasy stories ruin by soapboxing about religion.

This is now the best chapter.
Half expected her to say "And his hair went up. That was hot."
Edit: I don't think anyone wears a cross as a fashion statement/without some sort of basis in Christian faith, juss sayin'.

Yep, they're definitely doing this to back to dating in secret. Fallacy after fallacy after truth is a good way to tell the truth without anyone believing you.
"We've been dating." *Shock and awe* "It started like this..." *Oh...okay?* "No, no...it was like this..." *Walks away*

Wait, I think I see it: they're going to disagree over and over with increasing violence over the "how they met" story, and start fighting, only *that* will be for show and the others to be like "okay whatever".
