A big, simple poster. Easier to do (that's my guess, anyway), the occasion to see a more complex piece of art, doesn't match a specific market... What's not to like ? Oh and I see that the idea was already brought here

Is my suggestion for a Coyote shirt with the verbiage "Original Trickster" still under consideration? =D I'd pick up a Coyote t-shirt in a heartbeat but could do without captions. He's a beautiful design all alone.

One thing I've wondered about is posters. Do they actually make much money? I'd love some of the artwork on a wall...

just want to put in my vote; i'd definitely buy a boxbot shirt that said terrible (possibly several), and probably buy any of the other designs that have been up for consideration too.

One thing I've wondered about is posters. Do they actually make much money? I'd love some of the artwork on a wall... The short answer is no, they don't, unless they're run off in numbers that are probably beyond the GC fanbase at this time. Print on Demand mostly makes money for the PoD company and not for the artist, so unless someplace like Topato Co. can do it for cheap then posters appear very unlikely at this time. We kicked the idea (and others) around for a while in the old GC Merchandise thread if anyone wants to read my/our ramblings on webcomic merchandising in greater depth.

I would love having a t-shirt of Zimmy and Gamma done all in black and white with the caption "It's only as real as you let it be" under them. It would, shall we say, confusticate anyone who has not read the comic, but it would still look positively awesome. By the way: en.wiktionary.org/wiki/confusticate

I would totally purchase that robot shirt, or the Coyote one.
Or pretty much anything else you'd care to release.

Not that you need it at this point, but I would also like to indicate just how much I would enjoy Gunnerkrigg merchandise. I'd spend my hard-earned birthday money on those t-shirts, I would! ;D

Hands up here who would buy a little Rey plushie? Or, like, wolf plushie, since it's not him... Eh, he's confusing. Tom, if you don't make them, i'll find a way to make one myself and pay you for it anyways.
EDIT: Bhahaha. Just looked at the old thread, i -need- that mort shirt.

Well I wasn't doing anything with my student loan, and I do need some shirts to slob around in.

Now that I think of it, a T-shirt with any of the pictures from here: www.gunnerkrigg.com/about.html would be great. GC fans would instantly recognize it and other people could appreciate the humor of a guy with no eyes or hands eating a watermelon or mowing the lawn.

I don't think they'll work as shirts. But I could imagine putting the one where he smashes the screen on the door of some CS lab.

Yeah, I'm just getting the image tags as well, but if you quote the post, then copy-paste the urls, the images show up fine.

I would definitely get the Mort shirt on sight if I saw it.
I remember the last thread we had about this stuff. That had some cool ideas.

I think at this point, if Tom can sell some posters, he may be able to see which images people would most want on T-shirts. Then he can build from there. Sometimes a good poster design may inspire a decent T-shirt design. Plus, selling posters would get some of the funds needed to work out T-shirts. I would love a big 3 foot GKC poster of some sort someday - I'll be moving in a few months to someplace with proper vertical walls, and Tom's art is wonderful in both its clear linework, and the complexity he still puts into it.

I've always wondered why Tom doesn't sell t-shirts. I think the antimony symbol is great on a t-shirt. My suggestion is for a shirt or poster that is an alchemical table of the elements... We're all enchanted with alchemical symbols! Just putting my vote in as a "Yes! Please make t-shirts!". I'll spend my shineys on them!

Dresden Codak sells $20 posters of some of his comics. It probably wouldn't make sense to offer every page as a poster, but the Treatises would look amazing, as would large versions of some of the bonus artwork. EDIT: This of course assumes you have originals saved at a much higher resolution, but I am guessing you do since the book is so amazing.

Tom, if you ever look at this thread, one printer worth checking out might be Brunetto. They do TopatoCo.'s shirts and I own about six shirts made by them. The quality is perfect, and they have low minimums.

Max, I would think Tom does save at high resolutions for printing the books.
From my experience with making prints via the DeviantArt service, you generally have to use a pretty good-sized graphic (translation: high-resolution, generally a large image) as a starting point for the printers to work with them. Most artists I know who do high-quality digital painting generally use pretty big canvases in their programs anyways. Tom would have to confirm or deny this, but I doubt he's any different in that area.
I don't think he'll have too much trouble making posters. The general poster sizes (12x14, 16x18, 18x24, stuff like that) would be all he really needs, IMHO.

I'd buy pretty much any shirt related to GC. I love the Boxbot idea, and I think an Antimony symbol shirt would be great. You'll put up a link if/when merch goes on sale, right? I haven't missed it?

That was Tom's plan all along. At some point he'll put out something really crummy and we'll snap it up because we're so merch-starved.
The fatal flaw in my theory is that nothing Tom does can be crummy. You win again, Creative Talent!
