Kat justifiably chuffed. Why would Court!Annie want to rub it in though? This in isolation reads to me like she is either still pissed with Forest!Annie for being called a fake... Or knows she's not the real Annie and is trying to drive a wedge in for loup.
Can't think of many other reasons to act like that. Jealousy?
Edit: Actually this makes perfect sense. Neither of them have ever had a sibling before so they have no clue that live and let live is a necessity.

Oh no! I don't like the idea that Our Annie has missed out on developing a further relationship with Tony; in my opinion that's especially sad (though on this page it's played for comedy). Hope she gets the chance to do some catching up. Also, I welcome the return of Creepy Snake Eyes.

Oh that hurts. All the bonding that Forest Annie has missed. Loup, you have quite a number of things to answer for!

Hello and Welcome blackouthart ! Excellent first post and cool avatar! @antimony Carver ~ Is that some kind of face, Carver? @everyone ~ Have we seen that kind of smug cat face on Annie before??? Aw, thank you! Admittedly, I've been lurking and trying to post around midnight for ages now, but have been beaten to the punch each time either due to real life happening or getting lost in YouTube videos. Tonight, I was ready. Carver makes...interesting faces.

Mhm, I am wondering if we're about to get a reveal that maybe our forest!Annie is fake Annie. I couldn't explain why, but I am getting those vibes.
Where is Renard? I genuinely feel like he could set this entire situation straight.

Nice catch on the face! If this is the way Annie is going to go though it makes me sad, although I am coming round to the idea that Forest Annie is the fake one. It is easier for Loup to create a fake Annie to impart information to than to make a fake one that can fool the court for 6 months. Saying that though, that was an actual complement towards Annie! From Tony! What is going on?! Why have we been forced to miss out on this bonding after the torture of watching the abuse of the last 2 years! Also, welcome!

Yo guys I know I like never comment but it just occurred to me that Loup said he'd release Annie from her obligation to the psychopomps, but he only made that promise to long-hair Annie. So all Loup has to do to fulfill his end of the bargain is make sure the psychopomps take short-hair Annie. Long-hair Annie is thus freed and presumably gets to have a super awkward conversation with herself when she dies.
Also, I wonder if Annie is the only person this splitting tactic would've worked on, because she's a flame-type fire elemental (as opposed to Surma's smoke-type) and you need a strong flame to be able to create two fires from one fuel source.
Double also, if Tony represents wood, then the two fires are competing over who gets to burn him. That one's kind of a stretch I know but I like it.
Ok cool got that out of my system, back to lurking.

I do like the theory that the flame has been simply split, but it'd also be really messed up.
Which is why if it happens, I'll honestly hand Tom the "I didn't expect you to actually do it" award.

I'm leaning towards flame splitting myself. In the previous chapter when Annie went all fiery, Loup snatched her crown. Did he ever give it back? Is it possible that's what Court!Annie is "constructed" from?

Hope she gets the chance to do some catching up. Also, I welcome the return of Creepy Snake Eyes. I'm not that bothered by it. Because we don't know what Court!Annie was like. For all we know, the reason she and Tony had some good development is because she hasn't been acting like Annie would. And if Tony can only get along with an Annie who's not acting like herself then, well....then I'd be more than hesitant to say it would be good for her. Also, I wonder if Annie is the only person this splitting tactic would've worked on, because she's a flame-type fire elemental (as opposed to Surma's smoke-type) and you need a strong flame to be able to create two fires from one fuel source. Wait, what? If this is the way Annie is going to go though it makes me sad, although I am coming round to the idea that Forest Annie is the fake one. It is easier for Loup to create a fake Annie to impart information to than to make a fake one that can fool the court for 6 months. Dude, how long were those seeds there? How long had Coyote been messing with Ysengrin with the Court never having a clue it was anything but Ysengrin going mad? How long was Shadow hanging around before the start of the comic without anyone noticing him? How long has the Robot Religion been going on with the Court seemingly not knowing about it? Given all that, I have no trouble believing the Court would fall hook, line and sinker for a fake!Annie. Not that I'm certain she's a fake at this point, but if she was I don't have much reason to doubt the Court wouldn't notice, or at the very least wouldn't care and would be content to watch how things played out without interfering. Also, hi and welcome to blackouthart! Hope you enjoy your stay!

I still think that the main problem with the long-haired version of Annie being fake is that it means that all that crucial information and exposition in "Neither" was delivered to a non-existent person, and therefore, unless somehow shared with the "real Annie" before the fake dissolves away, will be wasted. (Unless Loup actually turned one of the forest-folk into an Annie-duplicate and got her to believe that she was annie - and even then, have that side character be the one to experience all the revelations in that chapter rather than the main character would still be extremely awkward.)
And, yes, the Court can be alarmingly unobservant at times - though I suspect much of it is due to human arrogance. They underestimate Coyote and Ysengrin because they're talking animals. (At least they haven't yet tried convincing themselves that the forest-folk are just making animal noises and wind up doing so good a job that they'd become incapable of hearing Coyote, Ysengrin, or Loup speaking.) And the robots, from their perspective, are just machines.

...before the fake dissolves away... Who said the fake will just disappear? One Annie takes all the fire and since she can't survive properly without it, might have to face herself on her own death bed.

One other thing about this page I forgot to mention. Kat's achieved something useful in providing a new hand for Antony - something that seems the exception in Court projects.
While the Court is so heavily veiled in mystery and secrecy that it's hard to be certain, so far, I've seen almost no evidence that its projects have achieved anything beneficial. The main fruit of their work, from what I can tell, is an oversized barren city that's been under repeated threat from the forest-folk next door (because the forest-folk feel threatened by the Court's experiments - and probably with good reason), and a lot of crooked schemes to protect themselves from people they wouldn't have had to worry about if they hadn't embarked on this big project in the first place. So far, we've seen no sign that the Court's doings have created anything useful or beneficial to the human race to counter all the troubles that have risen from their project.
Until now. Kat's come up with something useful and beneficial, in the form of a replacement hand. (Of course, it's the work of a student at the Court, in her own time, rather than an official Court project.) Whether this is enough to counter all the Court's scheming and duplicity, I don't know.

One thing I like about this chapter is how it so clearly illustrates one of the main themes of the comic, duality (of court vs. forest, most blatantly). Obviously there's the surface level stuff - Court Annie is from the court; Forest Annie came from the forest - but then there's stuff like, Court Annie wears makeup, has short hair, and wears more court-appropriate clothes; Forest Annie wears hiking/activity clothes, no makeup, and has long hair. So which one is real? I think the answer is both.

I believe that is less of a "haha" look and more of a "Father complimented me on holding things and not dropping them!!!!". Poor Annie.
We still haven't seen the Renard test yet. My guess is it will show they're both Annie. This will honestly take adjusting for both of them. It's an interesting arc. I doubt Loup could truly split the "flame" though. Which would mean Court!Annie has less time than Forest!Annie...

I believe that is less of a "haha" look and more of a "Father complimented me on holding things and not dropping them!!!!". Poor Annie. Well, another way to look at it, it could be that F!Annie IS realizing how superfluous /needy she could be around Father, like "seriously I do that face? Am I so attached?" This experience may save her several years of shrink

Wait until Forest!Annie finds C!Annie has been living with Father this last 6 months... And that now literally there.is.no.room.for.her... I wonder if Loup's plan is to make Forest!Annie feel useless... My guess is: not so much useless as not needed. The way this is going though, I hope both Annies get to share a room at some point before this is over and get a chance to talk. If they're both real, that is. But I highly suspect they are.

I wonder if Loup's plan is to make Forest!Annie feel useless... My guess is: not so much useless as not needed. Coyote has consistently tried to convince Annie that she belongs in the Forest. Convincing Annie that she doesn't belong in the Court might work if Annie doesn't run off to the "real" world like her mother did.

Return shots fired! All hands to battlestations! This is not a drill! Turns out they're all fake. Loup sent Annie into a simulacrum of the court so he could see where she looks for the items he wants. That way when he learns all he needs to know, he'll still have her in his clutches and will be able to go into the real court to easily retrieve the items himself. Fake Annie and the time skip are simply there to keep Annie off balance so she doesn't notice the cracks in the simulation.

I saw Snake Eyes Annie and immediately thought "yep, any doubts about Court!Annie being real are now gone. That's definitely Annie." Poor Forest!Annie, having to deal with herself like that.
