With our protagonists in an absurdly dangerous situation, the story is primed to have a character or two die. Who, if anyone, do you think it will be?
Personally, my vote is for one or both of the fairies but I could imagine Tom showing a cruel streak and killing off either Andrew or Parley. Then again, maybe we'll just have somebody (Kat?) be severely injured.

I'd vote Jeanne, but technically she is already dead, so...
What I deem possible would be a severe injury, maybe even lasting (one-armed Parley? One-eyed Smitty? And he'd be lucky with that.)

What I'm callin' right now is that Parley has to use CoyoteBlade against Jeanne, but inadvertedly, in a rebound move SNAPS SOME OF ANDREW'S FATE-CONTROLLING STRINGS, thus damaging him.
EDIT: Also, FULL MEMBER! WOHOOOO!!! PS: Do I get some cookies?

EDIT: Also, FULL MEMBER! WOHOOOO!!! PS: Do I get some cookies? I guess that this would have happened already if Andrew was in danger of Coyote's sword. Since his strings extend quite a way even her bit of wiggling the sword or any more practice should have severed a few strings between her and him, I guess. While on the other hand, I do like nightwinds idea, but just the other way around. One-armed Smitty, loosing half of his string due to Jeanne. Maybe he can chat with Tony - one armed medium to one armed medium's husband and father - about it and keep the parallels alive.

I'd vote Jeanne, but technically she is already dead, so... What I deem possible would be a severe injury, maybe even lasting (one-armed Parley? One-eyed Smitty? And he'd be lucky with that.) I think it is indeed possible that Jeanne will depart for the Great Etheric Beyond in this chapter. We've learned as much as we can expect about her history, from both her perspective and that of Diego. We've seen the Realm of the Dead and taken someone into the ether as a "test run" (poor Mort). We also possess a weapon that may be capable of harming her (though I still think that it's a Chechkov's Gun pointed at Jones), and Parley's been training in anticipation for this task. Jeanne has been established as an extremely dangerous swordswoman, empowered by her rage and etheric sciences. We'll have to see. If there is a "victory" over Jeanne, I expect it to be pyrrhic and/or bittersweet. At the very least, I expect to learn more about the Green Arrow and possibly the Artilleryman in this chapter. Obviously, there's no real way to predict how things will fall out. But if someone dies, my bet is on Red and/or Blue - they're unprotected and are going to have to stay close to Jeanne to maintain the effect. Not to mention, they're distractible and could easily make a simple mistake. Kat is also vulnerable, but it seems like she will be in the middle of the Annan Waters and thus not as close to the center of the disaster radius (plus, she is more of a major character). If someone becomes seriously injured, Smitty or Parley are likely candidates. EDIT: Also, FULL MEMBER! WOHOOOO!!! Congrats! PS: Do I get some cookies? Reach Gunner, then we'll talk

I am still torn between the notions that "GC is not that kind of story, everything is always resolved peacefully" and "even though nothing has happened yet, the stakes in GC are real and some major repercussions for Annie's reckless actions are overdue".
Hmm, nah, I'm staying the "no one besides Jeanne is going to leave this world in this chapter" camp.

On the one hand I most certainly do not want any of the characters to die, and this really isn't that kind of story.
On the other hand I remember reading Changes and realizing that the chapter was "everyone is promoted, and the inter-cast dynamics are unchanged." and being disappointed in that. Apart from Kat's love letter.
If anyone would die? Red, Red's friend or Andrew. Red and Red's friend really are disposable in the overarching story, and they've already died down there. Andrew because then Parley would share Jeanne's burden of having her beloved killed by the Annan river. It would be symbolic.
Oh, and Jeanne, obviously, I assume that they will succeed in that task.

I doubt Andrew or Parley, given related development minutiae as recently as last chapter. Also doubt the fairies because it would be so out of the blue. Also doubt Annie and Kat because main characters.
What if someone from the outside has to bail them out, and pays the ultimate price? Eglamore has the ability to show up quickly when needed. But I think that's too dark and out of character too.
Edittoadd: I also assume Jeanne will "double-die", if only because it would be awkward if after they set this up they fail and have to do it all over in a later chapter.

I always take a pessimistic view on who dies. I say Parley. Furthermore, I say when they die, we see the ether from their perspective, and then get some insight on what Tony went through on his journey. You know, the whole "the dead exist in a world beyond ours".

I have this slight inner fear for Andrew... he is non-etheric AND non-combatant. And he is pretty close to Jeanne, too.

I doubt Andrew or Parley, given related development minutiae as recently as last chapter. I see your point about Andrew: he was revealed to be holding magic fate-strings just a chapter ago, but the plot hasn't progressed enough to make something of them. Having him die now would be a waste of mystery. Parley, on the other hand... Confronting Jeanne has been her main goal ever since The Coward Heart. This is the culmination of her training. This is not a bad time for her to die tragically, if she were to die tragically at all.

Andrew because then Parley would share Jeanne's burden of having her beloved killed by the Annan river. It would be symbolic. Oh, and Jeanne, obviously, I assume that they will succeed in that task. Let's take it to its logical conclusion: Jeanne is freed, Andrew dies, and Parley dies but somehow ends up taking Jeanne's place as rage-ghost guarding the Annan waters. Now that would be symbolic. I do see two obvious counterarguments: 1) that Andrew probably won't die, given the recent revelation about the strings: his death would cause a fresh, juicy mystery to die on the vine, and 2) It's not all that justified; it's not like there'd always been a rage-ghost guarding the Annan waters. Jeanne could easily be the first and last.

1) that Andrew probably won't die, given the recent revelation about the strings: his death would cause a fresh, juicy mystery to die on the vine, I don't see that as a mystery as much as a visual representation of his powers. I believe that visualisation is more about developing Annie as a character, since she now sees something she did not before. 2) It's not all that justified; it's not like there'd always been a rage-ghost guarding the Annan waters. Jeanne could easily be the first and last. I agree. On the other hand, we don't know how that arrow works, or what actually will happen once it is removed. Though the lack of foreshadowing leads me to believe something like that won't happen. One question I wonder why I didn't bring up earlier: why not Parley dying? The reason I chose for why Andrew would die could just as easily apply to Parley, as you brought up in another post in this thread.

I believe that visualisation is more about developing Annie as a character, since she now sees something she did not before. That's one way of looking at it. In any case, I believe the string will reappear at least once before Andrew goes, if he does go (heaven forbid and all). So if they become relevant soon, I'll take it as a sign the sweet boy's in danger.

Someone on reddit thinks that Jeanne is going to cut Andrews strings. Welp, that is not in conflict with the strings being introduced so recently, so I wouldn't rule it out. My notion about the strings is that they're abstract/etheric enough that they couldn't be cut randomly, even by frivolously waving the tooth around, but if someone could cut them very purposely, Jeanne is on the list of possible causes. Smitty loses his power, Parley loses an arm, together they fight crime?

While I think this is an incredibly dangerous expedition for 'damn meddling kids' to be getting up to (have they been eating court food lately?), I agree with the plurality that don't think/want someone to die. GKC has yet to be quite that macabre.
And really, Jeanne is already dead. For most intents and purposes. All Annie can do at this point is help her move on.

So, was it ever established that a spirit who don't want to go to the Ether can be taken there by force?

So, was it ever established that a spirit who don't want to go to the Ether can be taken there by force? I don't believe it has, but I also think the bit about walking into the ether is symbolic and if a normal dead person, who isn't going to be a ghost, refuses to symbolically walk into the ether, then they will just fade into the ether where they symbolically stand.
