I suspect that Jones wanted an experience (remember when she wanted to experience the bombs) and has taken Annie's place, and it is Annie who will come down.
But then the theory doesn't quite work. I can't imagine Annie being OK with this and missing the chance to interact with her father.

Shadow is no longer constrained by ambient light. It seems to me that he's a strong candidate for our visitor.

Soooooo....any theories on who or what she's talking to? Faeries? Robots? Lindsey? Probably someone's etheric projection, since the last picture we got of the ceiling of this room was a blank white expanse with nowhere for someone to hide. Happiest solution, she and Kat worked out everything ahead and will now have a touching emotional moment together. Unlikely, but one can dream. The image appears to be a tiled ceiling, depending on what the tiles are made from and what is on the other side it would be possible to move a tile and hide on the other side. Of course it could be something that is to small to spot from the distance or that shower up after Mr. Carver and kat were there earlier since there is a time delay between then and the meal.

This is beyond my wildest dreams. Not only was one of the greatest questions in the Gunnerkrigg universe asked, but it's also answered within the very same chapter. Ladies and gentlemen, THIS is why this stupid room is so big.

I can think of plenty who it might be but probably isn't but no one who I would say it probably is. {t will be one on the low probability possibilities. My guess is shadow 2 and robot. I'm probably wrong.

I totally agree with this theory with her etheric being, but maybe the fact that she calls out to "that" is because she has really disassociated from herself... And it all makes sense, Annie barely interacts with the others, she just smiles, get's red for something embarrasing and the most is that she tries to stop Mr. Dolan, so yeah, what she does it's pretty basic. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1005 www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=1006Also, maybe it's somewhat of a mix with separating her etheric being and how she controls/punishes herself. Can't wait for Friday!!!

Is it just me or she is not hunched anymore? I hope I'm not seeing things but the new short-haired Antimony has always seemed a bit hunched forward however in the last few panels of this strip she seems straighter? Not just you, no. There's something about her face, too, that hint of a smile that finally bursts out as she says, "You can come down now". Annie (or whoever) is fairly pleased with how her plan is going. Now, whether that plan is simply Antimony's effort to keep Renard free, or if it is some malignant etheric being trying to take her place, or something else entirely, I don't know. (I do hope, though, that this is the Real Annie, because I think the story loses power if it is not.)

Somebody linked to this strip upthread, but while I opened the link in another tab, I didn't actually read it. Therefore I missed the last frame, which shows the walkie talkie Kat gave Annie. This implies a good reason for Sky Watcher, or one of the other smaller bots, to be in Annie's room: holding the talkie against the very high, blindingly white ceiling. (One of the things I like about this idea is that it turns Anthony's attempt to intimidate Annie against him.) And if that's who it is, then Annie is about to signal Kat, who will know that it is now safe to for the two conspirators to chortle over how they've gulled the grownups. === So, my current favorite guesses: It's Renard, who has left a piece of himself disguised as the plushie. It's Sky Watcher (or another robot), with the radio. It's Shadow. (Good catch by goldenknot about him not being constrained by ambient light.) It's Annie's Fire Elemental, whom she has, in the stress of the moment, and possibly as a side-effect of Zimmy's bone laser meddling, is no longer trapped. I very much indeed like this one, just because it makes feel all warm and fuzzy to think about.

Wow. Really. What.
So, I'll stop the incoherent babbling and say that, from my point of view, it looks like something that can fly (Shadow, Sky watcher, City face, a flying octopus or maybe even a tic-toc) or something spider-like (whitelegs? Though I would find it quite disconcerting) descending towards Annie. It could as well, as some peole stated, be some kind of etheric being or even etheric Annie.
But some of the problems I see with those options is: in the case of some bird-like being, where the hell is it staying on an apparently flat ceiling? And, in any case, why would any of those creatures need to (remember: "you can come down now") stay there during Annie's absence?
It could be some kind of hallucination, too, I guess (though I really hope that's not the case).
Finally, a possibility I find quite interesting. That huge room, what was its use before Annie's arrival? Could some creature live there before her and could she have met it when she moved in? After all, Annie has always being an expert in befriending the strangest (though mostly agreeable) beings.
Anyway, we'll find out in a couple of days and then everything I've said will look like nonsense (even more, I mean).

It's the etheric form of Anthony Carver, coming down to apologize to Annie for the horrible mistreatment of his puppet-self. Obviously.
If it is Ether-Annie returning to her body, volatile emotions and all, I suspect she's been following herself around all day rather then hanging out in one spot. Even the faeries back in "Red Gets A Name" were in the same general vicinity as their physical forms and I don't think that was a matter of preference. There's probably a limit as to how far an un-tethered soul can wander before they lose the ability to use their body at the same time (or get lost completely).
As for the talking part... that's the rub. It does make it feel like she's calling out to someone who's been chilling around on the white room ceiling all this time. It could mainly be for story impact, tho.

No, its obviously Smit. Lots of clues if you go back of Smit and Annie talking. Clearly Annie's seduction is finally complete. Now Annie will suck the life fire out of Smit and turn him into another emotionless undead minion.

Could be Shadow, Robot, a new robot, a new etheric being. It's probably something we can't even guess on. Whoever it is, is it someone who is a good influence on Annie? Will they help Annie through this or are they in favor of the idea that nothing is wrong with Anthony?

Poor kid. She has an imaginary friend now. But I'm happy something not depressing seems to be happening. What's wrong with imaginaryfriends? (And no, it's not me, by the way.) It's okay, Keef, I'll believe in you. =}

Without reading through the thread yet I theorize she's talking to herself. I'm just noticing in this strip she kind of reminds me of the way the fairies in their classes are with their etheric selves separated and having fun on their own.

The real Annie descends from the rafters to congratulate her doppelganger on a job well done! This was kinda where my mind went. Annie has developed her dissociation into depersonalization; she has split her consciousness into two parts and is now merging them again... *cough*cough* It would actually be kind of an elegant solution to her problem. Mindless zombie in public, just like daddy wants it, while her etheric half is goofing off at home. I think that's an excellent theory. Daddy's zombie girl is a good little zombie girl. ...However, that's no representation of the real individual, at heart.

Who's up there? Who's up there??!!! Renard? Zimmy? The fairies? Someone from the woods? I think Mr Siddell specialises in throwing people for a loop. Did anyone else hear the 'Jaws' theme playing for this page? This makes me think that the truth of the story could be something darker and more appalling. All right, spill it. Who is it, then? Oh, go on, how hard could it be...?

Yeah, fun predictions aside I'll have to go with the boring and unsanitary one and say City Face. We haven't seen him in a while and whatever's descending looks like it's going to alight on her shoulder instead of in front of her to talk like a bird from the Woods should. I'll say Kat is having Antimony look after the bugger to keep her company since her room is big enough for him to fly in. She would have to hide him from her dad in case he would object to the arrangement, and she would have to call out to him to reassure him that nothing threatening is around.

Since I doubt any of us are going make a guess and be sure it's the truth, how about this: forget what it is, do you think it's going to be good or bad?

Given my belief that we are seeing the Real Antimony, smiling a Real Smile, having successfully hidden whoever it is from her Father, I think this is going to be good. Very good.

Annie didn't cut her hair because her Father asked/made her. She cut it so that she and Jones could switch off. I nearly discounted this theory because Jones is part of the the Smiles Brigade (which is to say she doesn't.) But she can, and it is disturbing to see. The smile here falls in the uncanny valley and could only be faerie or Jones.

She may be imitating Jones who is mimicking humans. And Jones is not etheric, so I don't know how Jones could body-swap.

Not body swap so much as a parent trap-style switch. Hair color is the only thing I'm not sure they could fake, but Jones' style did change throughout history. There were two frames of Embarrassed Annie® that may have been hard for Jones to pull off, but all of the rest is tiny close-mouth grins or outright staring blankly at the table.
So, if that is Annie coming down to talk to Jones-in-Annie's-clothing, my only question is did Kat's mom peek into the ether? In her position I would have, just to check out Tony.

But some of the problems I see with those options is: in the case of some bird-like being, where the hell is it staying on an apparently flat ceiling? It's not mirror smooth, it's at very least made of panels. Which means something that supports them. Then there are light sources we haven't seen yet. And, in any case, why would any of those creatures need to (remember: "you can come down now") stay there during Annie's absence? Because whoever-this-is didn't know who is going to enter? After all, Annie has always being an expert in befriending the strangest (though mostly agreeable) beings. Why not. She have trained Mort, she can train his replacement. I notice she isn't looking at it when it's coming down, possibly hidden? Keep up, keep up. The conclusion so far is that she doesn't look because she either prefers to use Ether sight in this case, or more likely doesn't even expect whoever-this-is to be visible normally - which means either hidden or non-corporeal. I suspect that Jones wanted an experience (remember when she wanted to experience the bombs) and has taken Annie's place, and it is Annie who will come down. But then the theory doesn't quite work. I can't imagine Annie being OK with this and missing the chance to interact with her father. You two nailed it. I don't see why they would do so. Though there are possibilities. E.g. assuming this Anthony is discovered to be fake, Annie may not trust herself to remain deadpan for very long, and Jones may be interested. If he's infested with something that isn't recognizable as whitelegs, they may have plans. Or Annie may be disappointed and have a lot of work to do, and thus be unwilling to waste time on dancing around a crazy old man. There is one person whose hair is always this length -- in fact it can't grow. Annie didn't cut her hair because her Father asked/made her. She cut it so that she and Jones could switch off. We don't know this. And Jones is not etheric, so I don't know how Jones could body-swap. We don't know - Jones may be able to transform her body. Moreover... for all we know, she may actually be rock-solid and amorphous, and move via carefully and purposefully changing the body shape through forms of a moving human body. In this case, shapes closest to habitual ones may be preferable and long hair is likely to be harder to simulate plausibly.
