oh snap.
What is Jenny's deal, anyway? She acts like his girlfriend, but knows that he's obsessed with another girl. Perhaps we misinterpreted Jack's attitude towards Zimmy? Also: Jack's not looking nearly as upbeat. It's worth taking a look back towards the beginning of the chapter.

Nearly half an hour and three posts - looks like everyone on here spontaneously decided they needed their beauty sleep or something I just...didn't have anything worth saying about this page. Not much is going on here (shrug) Though the 'have to keep her safe' is worrying, because now I'm imagining how Zimmy would go ballistic if Gamma was hurt. I still think that's darker than Tom would go, unless the entire comic has just taken a major shift in tone.

Jenny, you're enjoying yourself too much. And you're a little too okay with the fact that you're basically a rebound.

Hm... Has Kat ever been to Zimmyville? If I recall correctly, only a fake/phantom Kat has.

Presumably Kat's heard some tales from Annie. Paz... not so much.

Jenny, you're enjoying yourself too much. And you're a little too okay with the fact that you're basically a rebound. I'm liking this new Jenny character ^^. I'm not sure we know enough about Jack's feelings, and anyway it's not technically a rebound it's more that we assume Jack likes Jenny (in part) because she looks like Zimmy. Maybe Jenny isn't quite aware that Jack thinks of Zimmy *that way* and maybe he doesn't feel that way anymore. It's been almost a year since faraway morning which I think is when we learned that Jack likes Zimmy. Or maybe Jenny really is just okay with it. Despite how she appeared to us during that scene on the docks, she's actually pretty chipper and easy going.

Kat and Paz's positioning remind me of Gamma and Zimmy, but that's more of a coincidence. Looks like both aren't faring very well in the change of scenery. :/
I assume that Jack legitimately likes Jenny. Physically, she resembles Zimms, but she couldn't be more different from her in terms of personality. I think he's smart enough to know that Zimmy would be the best or kindest partner.
Jenny seems like a nice character. She's either aware that Jack was/is in love with Zimmy, or she's only left with the assumption that Zimmy still plays an integral role in his changed psyche.
Man, I'm curious to know how the robots are doing, too. And what of the other kids?
Monday is too far away.

I struggled to find a more appropriate word, though. And I like Jenny, too. I think a lot of people were expecting her to exist just to be a relationship obstacle, so it's nice to see her stand out on her own like she does. And in spite of what I just said, I actually really like how unbothered she seems by, well, everything. I hope she sticks around for a while.

First of all, I get a slight impression Annie is suddenly learning that there might be a lot more etherically talented people around her. At the same time, what Jenny is doing, reminds me a lot of the Donlan software and 'etherically' altered computer.
Secondly, this is Zimmy's realm. Shouldn't Kat resemble this thing that Zimmy sees when she looks at her? The robot-bird thing. It all reminds me of the art HR Giger used to do.

Maybe she's OK with it because both she and Jack know that she's the real deal while Zimmy is just a crazy obsession, as far as Jack is concerned. Secondly, this is Zimmy's realm. Shouldn't Kat resemble this thing that Zimmy sees when she looks at her? The robot-bird thing. It all reminds me of the art HR Giger used to do. Why should she? People don't normally change appearances in Zimmingham. Annie never looked like the fire elemental, either.

Jack is a little obsessed? I could never tell from his behaviour in this chapter. She acts like his girlfriend, but knows that he's obsessed with another girl. I don't see why it's necessarily much of the former - given how she acts with Annie - or if it is, why this would necessarily clash with the latter. I wounder how Kat and Paz will respond to this. If I am not mistaken this is Kats first time here right? As far as we know. Of course, she still could hear some lurid account from Annie. That is, unless Annie thought that whatever happens essentially in Zimmy's mind counts as "personal business". Jenny seems like a nice character. She's either aware that Jack was/is in love with Zimmy, or she's only left with the assumption that Zimmy still plays an integral role in his changed psyche. Or she's as curious as a hyperactive catgirl. First of all, I get a slight impression Annie is suddenly learning that there might be a lot more etherically talented people around her. She got to be aware of the Court's house system. But there's a difference between having abilities and formal learning.

People don't normally change appearances in Zimmingham. Annie never looked like the fire elemental, either. But we don't know that Annie ever has looked to Zimmy like a fire elemental except when she entered Annie's head during Divine. I don't think it's safe to assume Zimmy sees people "as they truly are". I think Mech-Angel thing is an aspect Kat, but not necessarily all of Kat and not necessarily strictly "true". Zimmy says in spring-heeled that sometimes real people appear not to have faces. Is this cause those people don't have souls (shiver) or is Zimmy just deceived, seeing a heavily distorted version of Ether-land. Anyhow, people do change when in Zimmy's mind. In spring heeled Annie and Zimmy trade places. Zimmy also gets Annie's scar for some reason during Divine. (Hey, is that the last time we saw the scar? Did the events of Divine erase it??? That wouldn't make much sense but I remember people asking why we haven't been seeing it) So I think we're going to see some more Annie/Zimmy/Entanglement. I think will also most likely see more of Mech-Angel-Kat, but not quite yet. Remember in Divine Zimmy was cool around Kat - only seeing normal Kat and her headpigeon - except the very last moments.

So I guess Zimmy does have some sort of effect on the appearance of people in Zimmingham. I'm glad Kat and Paz seem to be okay for the moment. Ooh, so excited to see what happens next!

I am starting to think that Jenny is just pretending to be Jack's girlfriend. Yeah, I'm torn between that, and that they're together through their shared interest in being human gnostic discoverers. I also get the weird impression that Jack's had a gritty Constantine-esque spin-off comic between this and the last time we saw him. where is this comic tom can I read it

Annie had the cut on her face when she was with Zimmy, though. So I guess Zimmy does have some sort of effect on the appearance of people in Zimmingham. [...] My theory for this: Remember when once in Zimmingham, Zimmy said that their real bodys are still on top of the powerstation (iirc)? I guess in Zimmingham, only your etherical self/soul/whatever is present. Because of that, Annie has the cut on her face. If that is the case, no cut and no Mechaangel-kat would mean: this time, Zimmingham is real. Not just an etherical visit in Zimmys messed um brain, but a physical one. With a lot of creatures around that seem very capabale of inflicting physical harm. Also: Hi guys, i'm new.

I think Jack's tale will have to take its place in the queue behind Paz, and Zim & Gam.
Someone needs to kidnap Tom and clone him! ('Not your bitch.', as some author once said in defence of another.)

Panel 4 with Jenny's face makes me think that Death of the Endless decided to make a Gunnerkrigg cameo. I mean why not? The place is a psychopomp magnet.

It is still quite possible that Jenny may not actually know Jack's true feelings for Zimmy, but I am really inclined to think that Jack genuinely likes Jenny. Also, nothing like perky goths, eh?

I was half joking and half speculating that Jenny was working with the Bots. But given what todd said about humans manipulating the Bots into doing this ( gunnerkrigg.proboards.com/post/107884/thread ) and the knowledge Jenny gained from Jack about Zimmy, I think there is more to this idea than just speculation.

For me it looks like Paz is the one suffering from the etheric distortion and Kat is comforting her. Paz has an etheric-like talent (animal telepathy/communication). Kat’s talent (tech/robotics) in non-etheric. As others have said and like the ROTD, Kat may not “feel” Zimmingham like Paz, Annie, or Jack. It appears Paz is sensitive and shocked.

Annie had the cut on her face when she was with Zimmy, though. So I guess Zimmy does have some sort of effect on the appearance of people in Zimmingham. I think that had to do with Zimmy having prophetic abilities to glimpse at Annie's etheric self, like she can sometimes see flashes from the past or future, rather than people's appearances actually changing in Zimmingham. But that was Zimmy's hallucination, not a reflection of their true etheric selves, or anything. And Gamma still recognised the real Zimmy right away, so it may have been just from her own perspective.

If the robots have some flesh (or when), I wonder if she can hear them. Or maybe just the organic side? They tempted fate, when they said her power wasn't a threat. They probably couldn't fully plan for their "organic configuration". Jenny may just see Jack as having a type. Most men do. I like long-legged gingers. That usually sparks an interest, but it's up to the lady to really get me enthralled. Maybe, Jenny's comfortable with that.

Panel 4 with Jenny's face makes me think that Death of the Endless decided to make a Gunnerkrigg cameo. I mean why not? The place is a psychopomp magnet. She does look somewhat similar, yes. Something to consider when comparing this to previous instances of Zimmingham is that the robots have those etheric generators in place to increase the power of zimmy's powers and make them capable of physically altering reality. Basically, it's hard to tell what the rules are as a result, since this situation is more real then previous times we've seen zimmingham.
