So, what do you think... how does Ys plan to make Annie stronger? Considering that he seemed mostly concerned with Annie's mental strength, so to say, I could imagine she'll get to some sort of strange mental training at the ruins?

That was very quick! within 1min The thread? If you check the time of creation of other thread strips, you'll find out that most of them are created faster than this one. In fact, this saw such a big risk to be second that I immediately checked if someone had already created a thread for this strip and expected that I'd have to delete mine.

Its the place where the training montage takes place I think this is the most plausible answer.

That was, by the way, extremely good catch. How on earth did you remember that and connect these two so fast!?!?! Is this perhaps forest's equivalent to the ether-power-plant-experimentation-center-world-control-machine-or-whatever-was-it-meant-to-be-again? So, some sort of etheric source, home of the myths, or their graveyard? I imagine that my imagination lets me down here and my guesses are embarrassingly dull compared to the Gunner-reality.

I've seen times within 30 seconds. Also, always wise to have another tab open to the forum itself so you can be fast on the delete if you miss the time. I'm glad the time goes down into seconds now, so you can verify who really was first.

"Unless you make me angry because of some obscure reasons, or otherwise ask the wrong kind of question and trigger my internal insecurities. Otherwise you're perfectly safe." I don't know, it's pretty heavily implied that Coyote was at least partly responsible for sending him over the edge.

So if Ysengrin says he would never intentionally hurt Annie, does that mean Coyote was controling him through the tree-body last time? Or just that he is lying to himself or Annie through not being able to remember.

WHAT? No discussion of the issue at all? I wasn't expecting a fight or anything; I figured Annie would forgive him, but no trying to figure out what the hell is going on? Maybe later

Its the place where the training montage takes place Hahaha! It certainly looks like it! In all seriousness, I'm betting it's the remains of some of the Court members' buildings, from before the time when the Court and Forest were split. Also, it TOTALLY has a vibe of that Yoda/Luke scene in Empire Strikes Back: "What's in there?" "Only what you take with you."

May I say... CALLED IT!
This doesn't happen often, especially here. On the start of chapter, I theorized that the flowers emerging from the cracks may be from the older part of the court... upon looking back, I didn't specify that I meant the ones separated by the Annan divide.

Maybe later Ys has at least admitted that there are these small round holes in his memory*. I think Annie figures she had better quit while she's ahead. Also, she's still weak, of course. *As indicated earlier, won't be surprised to find out this is Coyote, who has small round anti-holes rolling around in his.

Look at those windows in the background. You'd expect to find these in a church. In fact, they strongly resemble those in St. Mary's Basilica at Lübeck, which was built in the High Middle Ages, under the influence of Gothic architecture. (You could also take a glance at Notre-Dame and you'd immediately recognize the windows; but I thought of St. Mary's first. Tough luck, Paris.) What I'm saying is that the ruins are either Medieval, or the architect supported the neo-Gothic revival, and that they might have been a church, but not necessarily. I realize that I'm not really pulling my weight here.

So if Ysengrin says he would never intentionally hurt Annie, does that mean Coyote was controling him through the tree-body last time? Or just that he is lying to himself or Annie through not being able to remember. Well, Ysengrin has really no reason to assume that he would ever do so. After all, he has no memory of all the times that he's gone berserk, so he can't be even aware of his own motivations for doing so. Thus, as far as he knows, he would never intentionally harm someone he considers a friend. Also, it's not like he was exactly in his right mind even before Coyote's little mind surgery. WHAT? No discussion of the issue at all? I wasn't expecting a fight or anything; I figured Annie would forgive him, but no trying to figure out what the hell is going on? Maybe later Well, Annie has been told repeatedly by several sources that Ysengrin is mentally unhinged, so it doesn't really come off as a surprise for her that even he knows that his brain isn't working quite as well as it should. Although we readers quickly take the "blame Coyote"-route even when he's not immediately obvious culprit, Annie has only had a few run ins with his darker aspects, and is less likely to put the two together, especially since at first hand it seems uncharacteristic of the Coyote to actively alter someone's mind. As for the buildings, I suspect that this is the original place from where Gunnerkrigg Court began, before the rift emerged between humans and the creatures of the Forest, and before the Seed Bismuth was planted. Apparently the animals didn't raze quite all the buildings on their side of the ravine, after all.

Plus, I can completely forgive a pause on the Ysengrin plot, if it means revelations about the Court and the Seed Bismuth. If Tom pulled a 180 and had Annie say, "But wait, let's talk about this some more", I'd rip even more hair out than usual.

Its the place where the training montage takes place To Eye of the Tiger. Edit: Not sure if whether should turn on Eye of the Tiger or Dead Space OST Damnit, beaten to my own punchline. In all honesty, I'm glad this isn't turning into an angst-ridden discussion that spans four or five pages. She accepts that he means it sincerely, and moves on. Better than how she handled Jack.

So, this new turn of events made me wonder, will Ysengrin be tied into the story more now? And will Ys and Rey fight over the fire head girl? I kinda wish to see that happen...

This looks like the building Diego spied on Jeanne and Green-Not-Legolas in (http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=771) although i suppose it could be one of many pre-Annan water court buildings in the forest.

Though maybe I should have realized it: Tom's storytelling is generally anything but predictable This is probably a symptom of the fact that he's an artist first, writer second. Sort of why I've taken a step back and divested myself of any serious concerns about the story. There are a number of things which it looks like Tom might actually do that would incite me to throw a novel at my bedroom wall, and I'm not confident he'd be able to pull them off in a way I'd be okay with. But regardless of where the story is ultimately headed, my enjoyment of the story now would be ruined if I were constantly worrying about it.
