I wasn't motivated enough today to do anything productive. Instead, with the help of regular expressions and everybody's almost robotic adherence to the "[page number] page title" pattern, I made a chart showing the post count of the discussion threads of each page! Don't know if this is interesting to anybody else, but I certainly had fun making and using it!

That's very nifty! It's nice to see the increased activity over time (which I'm sure is due to more and more readers, and some of those readers joining the forums).
It's funny to see the comics that you'd think would spark the most discussion not garner many posts at all.

Funny how much discussion was about 567, as it is not at all dramatic or cliff-hangery, which I had assumed before looking at the comic. It seems the page doesn't include all the comics.

Of course, a lot of the discussion revolves more around the gags and pop culture references than around the main story.

All pages that had a discussion page should be listed. Pages that were published before Tom started the forum are almost completely missing, as well as pages that don't have a regular discussion page like summer breaks. The rest should be there if the thread title was properly formatted, i.e. started with [number].
PS: If something seems odd, you can always look at the title of the thread as a quick consistency check. They are usually a quote from the page.

I'm partially to blame for 794 being so long. Someone said we're all descended from murderers, which let to a very extended discussion about what "murder" meant. I think it was over 11 pages long.

The data for 583 is missing, just letting you know.
Also, the forum search is kind of broken.

When I last checked, 576 wasn't there. Now it is is, but the data are completely different. Problem with the forum software, maybe?

I fixed some things - AND the bars are now linked to the thread itself, so you don't have to use the forum search! URL stayed the same: nkdev.de/misc/gc-disc-postcount.htmjasmijn: In the post above you were talking about 5 67, not 5 76edit: Quotation mark fixed. Thanks jayne!

It doesn't matter but there's an extra quotation mark at the end of the URLs.

jasmijn: In the post above you were talking about 5 67, not 5 76 Oh, right. Should've been 576. Still, 567 is not on the page (while it is on the image), and the page and the image claim something completely different for 576.

Ahh... it seems that the page numbers in the image somehow got remapped to start at 1. I deleted the image.

So...anyone want to rerun nikita's script (or re-implement a similar script) to see what the most discussed strips are more than five years later?

I was wondering why 621 had such a long discussion for such a trivial page. Turns out people were spending way too much time debating how Annie is seen by her classmates, to the point where Tom himself had to get involved.

Don't know if this is interesting to anybody else, but I certainly had fun making and using it! 1) That's really neat! 2) Why only include up to page ~850? 3) I'm curious if there is any way to generate a chart of post count versus the number of members registered on this website at the time. EDIT: Aaaand I forgot this was a post from 5 years ago. My questions stand though.

Such a chart would be really skewed towards older pages because as time goes on there will be more registered members who've stopped posting here.

Oops. While reading this list, I've looked at page 792. And this sentence captured my attention: "We wanted to lure him into the court, but ~ we didn't he would kill someone to do it." I wonder what "we" means here. a) "we - the court" Or rather b) "we - group of friends who get too bold, decide to deal with that on their own, and somebody died because of this" ?

Wow, thanks gpvos ! Oops. While reading this list, I've looked at page 792. Or "we- the group of friends who were instructed to capture Rey by the Court administration, but weren't told that he was likely to kill someone even though they knew it to be the case."

Seeing how Coyote had to hypnotize Rey for him to actually do it, the Court Administration would have been pretty wrong on that.

Hypnotize? On which page is that? Page 1214. Although it looks more like brainwashing than hypnosis. Coyote's eyes are glowing more than normal, and have the spiral in them... I'm not sure if it was Tom showing how persuasive Coyote was trying to be, or if he really was trying to hypnotize/enthrall Rey.

Wow. I wasn't around then, but I can't imagine how anyone could have thought that was Zimmy. It was amazing, absolute conviction and commitment to explain away every problem with the hypothesis. Even Occam's Razor was invoked in favour of it being Zimmy, if I recall correctly. It was the forum at it's most... typical.

It was amazing, absolute conviction and commitment to explain away every problem with the hypothesis. Even Occam's Razor was invoked in favour of it being Zimmy, if I recall correctly. It was the forum at it's most... typical. It was entertaining, mostly in good spirits, and completely planned by Tom; a masterpiece of trolling. A lot more fun than some of the other peaks of forum activity.
