Ha ha! They seem so young! This comic's done a great job of depicting them transitioning from children to adolescents.

Pst: Kat didn't seem to have much friends either, if any, before Annie (in fact she was openly shunned because she was the daughter of two teachers, remember?)
So it's difficult for her too. Come on she's 13 years old, she's being incredibly mature for that age and for what little experience she has with friends, what do you want more? She has those feelings, it's better to express them (in a non tantrumic way) than to keep them inside and pretend nothing happened.

And since we can't really change Annie's past, are they supposed to treat her 'special' forever? Obviously not, but just saying "you're difficult to be friends with" and then walking away without ANY EXPLANATION OR SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT is a huge bitch move. Though I'll admit my ire is most likely influenced by having been more or less on Annie's end of the conversation. I've got a few kinks in my brain wiring and can't really pick up on social cues properly, which leads to my doing or saying very stupid things sometimes. A girl I had been best friends with for many years did basically exactly what Kat just did to Annie and then, like Kat, walked out without telling me how to fix what I did wrong or what I could do in the future to avoid being such a dumbass. It just pisses me off to see Kat say something that callous and then not offer any constructive advice or criticism to help her friend improve. Oh god look at all that text this is just a webcomic written by some british dude what the hell am I even talking about FFFFFFFFF- QUICK MAKE A BUTT JOKE. ajkfbakgb

The saddest face! But also, very cute in panel 4. What is that in the lower left corner (panel 7)? Reflections? At this angle, we'd probably see the real thing. Lights from the submerged dorms shining through? Doesn't look like simple round viewport. Some unnameable aquatic horror!? Aqua-bots in a light beam, probably. Have a hunch. Just because we saw Coyote's bind disappear, doesn't mean it is gone. I wonder if Coyote is having a final test of character for Annie. A forest creature attacks Kat, and the only way for Annie to fight it off is with the Coyote tooth. Of course, this means revealing the tooth to the creature. Annie needs to make a choice. Her friend or her hand? Overcomplicated and i don't see why he would bother. Especially since Annie don't have to say anything and if she uses the tooth, her opponent is likely to take a walk with Muut - so ultimately Coyote's secret is kept. He'd feel bad for Annie having learned about everything, but then a little angry because Annie was the cause of Surma's death. Like Kat, he might not know how to feel about everything. Also, he's one of the guys who withheld from her vital information. And knows she knows. Even if he assumed she already knew, he probably got an update now. This one is going to be very awkward not only for Annie. Actually, I really wouldn't mind jumping aboard that line of thinking because I have a hard time seeing Kat and Annie being enemies of any sort. At least, not about Court vs. Wood matters. No, no, that was the one Renard saw in viewport (foreshadowing, he-he). I wonder what Kat's history of friends before this has been? See a flashback in #398. I also continue to wonder exactly what it was Kat was told about what happened and in what way. And everyone else, for that matter. Especially "in what way". So relationships are poker games now? The pot is sympathy and forgiveness, and whoever's psychological turmoil is worth the most gets to take the whole pot home? Why this made me thinking about Beggars Guild? The situation wasn't easy, but Annie still chose the forest over Kat. This phrasing implies that it was "where to play the whole summer" sort of problem. As opposed to an issue related to safety of everyone around, for example. And since we can't really change Annie's past, are they supposed to treat her 'special' forever? Obviously not, but just saying "you're difficult to be friends with" and then walking away without ANY EXPLANATION OR SUGGESTION FOR IMPROVEMENT is a huge bitch move. I.e. acceptance as opposed to "i want you to be this and this? Well... YMMV.

On re-reading this chapter I think I know what that keyboard is for and how their friendship would be mended.
I think the keyboard controls the air pressure in that room (it's currently set high enough to keep the water out but low enough to let the water come close). I see Annie finding out a bit more about it, giving it a command it recognises but accidentally setting the air pressure too low.
I predict that Kat would see her, fix the problem and then have a go at Annie. Annie would go back to her room looking dejected and then Kat would, later, calm down, feel guilty and go to apologise.

My guess: The boy that used to be a fish in the forest is going to make an appearance in this chapter.

"I'm sure I saw something swimming out there" + "splish" = foreshadowing Also, alternative source of the "splish" : Thank goodness she missed, it could have been a "kaboom!"

Is that from Wind Waker? Hahahaha!
At first I figured it was Annie throwing the boots over the side in frustration, but I like the idea of waterbots...or giant fish...

Boots would make a splash or sploosh sound effect, the splish sound effect being used here seems more like lightly flicking the water with your hand, know what I mean? Besides Annie MADE the boots, I'm sure anybody would be hesitant to toss something if you made it yourself. She'll probably just leave them in Kats room.

Annie will accidentally order a sandwich with too much spicy mustard. But Kat will save her, while riding a cyborg unicorn named Eunice! I predict this is EXACTLY what will happen.

I very seriously do not want Annie to purchase Kat's friendship by rescuing her from doom. By doing so, Annie would irrefutably demonstrate to Kat that 1) everything is all about Annie and 2) Crossing Annie is grossly unsafe.
I want the two of them to work through this like two young teenage human beings, using only their powers of friendship.
And cuteness. They may bring cuteness to the field of battle if they so choose.

Annie isn't exactly human however since she has fire elemental DNA, or essence, or whatever passes for genetic material with elementals. But I get your point Refugee.
I have another thought, I wonder if the new dorms are meant to see if Kat has any water elemental essence or whatever. There really hasn't been any evidence that Anja or even Donald have any water elemental type powers.
We know Anja has powers, but we don't know if they are inherited through normal human bloodline or theres some elemental or somesuch in the past.

Yeah, "human" may be shorting one or both. Perhaps it's enough to say, "I want the two of them to work through this like equals who care about each other." But that's asking a lot of anybody who is even remotely a teenage human. I'd be surprised if the dorms are anything other than dorms — weird dorms, but not tailored to individual students.

"Ohmygod, Annie did the wrong thing" & "Ohmygod, Kat did the wrong thing" = normal.
Doing the wrong thing from time to time is normal. I do the wrong thing with my friends all the time and they do the wrong thing with me. I think that helps me not go crazy when they screw up because I know I screw up. I think everyone acting perfect all the time is a sign you're in a hallucination.

Yea, it could be a wave from the wake of a boat somewhere, or a fish. Those yellow things are either fish or dorm lights. Or rubber duckies. (Well, that was what popped into my head when I first noticed them.)
