Whoa. Awesome look for Annie!
Also, going by what goatmon said, it looks like I wasn't the only one who thought the "forest smell" might be BO.

NO.
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.
I WILL NOT TOLERATE THIS.
I'm pretty sleep-deprived and probably shouldn't be posting, but dang it all! Having been a foreign exchange student myself, I was incredibly eager to see what Annie's host family would be like. What kind of creatures would they be? What kinds of customs would they have? What dangers would Annie encounter? At least a few, judging from how drastically she's changed; you don't become nigh-unrecognizable without some pretty exciting and important experiences.
But from the way this comic looks, it seems Tom won't let us see any of that, at least for awhile. Gah, just look at how different Annie is! I want to see how her character transformed like that! I don't want to just sit around as the various characters with whom she reunites are all, "Wow, Annie! Look at how much you've changed!"
Ugh, I might be reading too much into this. It's only the second page of this story, but with this 'She Came from the Forest' title, it seems like we're skipping the entirety of what happens to Annie in the forest. If that's the case, then quite simply, that just makes me angry. I don't mean that in the pouty oh-I-say-I'm-mad-but-I-really-mean-I'm-excited sense; I'd just honestly hate this webcomic. I'd still keep reading it anyway due to the quality of its art and writing, but begrudgingly so. Dang it Tom, show us what happened! And I don't mean in bite-sized flashbacks of various events, I want to see Annie's whole experience! Was Annie's host family afraid of her like the other creatures of the forest have been? Did they let her keep some of her human ways, or was she immediately forced to acclimate herself to the forest? Did she have trouble sleeping or feeling comfortable, or did she feel at home? Did some of the creatures show hostility towards her for being human? How often was she homesick? When the summer was coming to a close, was she eager to go home, or did she want to stay longer? Was it a mixture of both? I need to know!

Nature-girl or not, she's still putting that hideous make-up on.
Edit:
Is her skirt made of Ysengrin's robe? Hmm!

WOW
It's pretty nice and awesome)
P.S.: Rey is so funny)
Interesting what's in the Annie's bag?
Also: Look at Rey's eyes on last panel))
P.S.S.: I think that Rey's reaction on Annie's smelling is a part of great Coyote's plan...

So, a time skip. And we just know that Annie's done some training in the forest. ( We need a flashback! A training montage! )
Does this mean Gunnerkrigg Shippuden begins now? XD

....Awww! So much awww. I was expecting for a reunion to be a little awkward, but happiness is so much better. And our dear Annie looks gorgeous.
Also, her skirt being made out of Ysengrin's robe would be the cutest thing ever.

Wow, Annie is really OCD about that makeup. A shame, because having her makeupless would have perfectly complemented the forest look.

NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. I kinda have to agree with the sentiment... I love annie's new look but I was really, really, really, really, really looking forward to seeing the forest. See what life was like in the forest, see the kind of creatures that inhabit the forest and see what new and interesting characters we would get out all of this. I figured we'd also get to have a chapter of annie not only learning new things in the forest but learning to accept/deal with the way things are around her; not just in forest but the recent reveals in her life. I was on edge in anticipation on the last page of the previous chapter that felt like a massive cliffhanger, which was followed up by a 2 week break which only increased and prolonged the anticipation... And now we find that we just skipped past the whole thing... I'm feeling really disappointed right now Sure sometimes its nice to let things remain a mystery, but this is a mystery that has lasted for 3 books now... I may be jumping the gun a bit and Tom deserves the benefit of the doubt but i'm feeling really irked by this... i mean we may still get flashbacks but will flashbacks be as detailed as seeing the events first hand ("ties" leaves some hope there)

Wow. Annie has grown up from the time in the forest. Does anyone else think in the last panel, Annie looks scarily like Surma? I was coming here to say exactly this. It's amazing, and more then likely VERY deliberate.

I seem to recall that some of edzepp's art showed Annie with longer hair tied twice. Not sure what the black undershirt-type thing is; it doesn't seem to fit in with "raggedy wilderness" attire. I was also expecting a slightly longer skirt, but I guess a short skirt and leggings are a bit more practical.

Having been a foreign exchange student myself, I was incredibly eager to see what Annie's host family would be like. That's interesting, I hadn't even considered that she might have a host family. I assumed they had a place for her to be on her own, judging from the fact that Ysengrin sent her alone across that bridge-type thing, but I suppose Coyote could have been waiting with a nice elf family or something. Nigh unrecognizable? Her hair is longer and she's got a spankin' new outfit, but I hardly think that qualifies as unrecognizable. For all we know, she looks exactly the same; maybe she just needs a shower. Oh ye of little faith, Annie's been back for one page! Maybe Kat will get back and then Annie will tell them the whole story this chapter. Maybe she won't want to talk about it and another chapter will be devoted to it. Or maybe we'll learn bits and pieces as we go along. It's hardly necessary to know everything that went on in the forest, just as we don't know everything that goes on in the Court. True it might be interesting, but if it's not relative to the narrative, I hardly think it should be required. Judging from the snippets of other stories we've seen so far, and the way they let us know just as much as we need to, I prefer to trust Tom's storytelling skills, seeing as how they've kept me entranced thus far.

Tom, you masterful storyteller, you.
My idea of why he's not showing us the forest and its inhabitants is A. This comic has many mysteries, but that's one of the largest for sure. Keeps the mystery alive, keeps people coming back. B. Like someone said before, someone's likely to ask her about her experiences, and rather than have it shown, and then having to explain it again to another character (thus repeating elements of the story), he'll just reveal what he wants to in flashbacks, in due time. C. Like someone said before, it's called Gunnerkrigg Court. He's always skipped over the summer break, it's not like he's changing anything. D. Maybe he wanted to flash forward in time... can you imagine how long a chapter or two in the forest would take to draw? Maybe he's interested in some quick character development for Annie, for something that is soon to come.
Honestly, I would have LOVED to have a chapter or two in the forest, just to have that mystery answered, but I hardly think it's something to hate the comic/Tom's writing skills over.
This page made me so happy. <3

In complete opposition of the others' displeasure at not being shown her entire experience in the forest right away, I'm actually rather looking forward to seeing how Tom will integrate it into flashbacks, re-tellings, and of course, how he'll illustrate it. Annie DOES look very tired, like she's aged a lot more than she should have in a summer. I expect she'll have gone through quite the culture shock, much in the way foreign exchange students do. Not to mention -- did anyone notice her feet? They look filthy! I wonder if the forest inhabitants ever let her bathe in peace in a lake or something... Annie doesn't strike me as an unhygienic dirt child. I suspect Jones brought her uniform back to her dorm for her in a later visit, since she doesn't seem to be carrying it with her. Alexandragon: isn't it PPS, not PSS?

exdevlin: Even if she did have access to a lake to bathe (and they have lakes, we saw Ysen fishing in one), her feet would get dirty again. Also here she liked running around the hallways, so yea. Also, I wonder where Shadow is at? We haven't seen him since Sky Watcher and The Angel at least.

I actually think part of her uniform is the shirt. Looks like she cut off the sleeves and the color dulled a little in the forest.

When was the last time she called him "Reynardine"? Well, considering it's only been a little while since she found out that her mother kinda gave him that nickname... probably hasn't happened since then? Edit: She said it four or five times since she learned that, and it's always been "Renard." The one time she got the whole word out while talking to him, it was in bold, and that may have been a reference to that, or just an indication of vocal inflection... or both.

So where is everybody else, who'd like to know how/what Annie was doing out in the Forest? Or maybe she learned a trick and bypassed them? : D Hard to imagine the authorities in the Court wouldn't want to question Annie first thing she comes back from Gillitie. : ) Or maybe she's already after that? Or maybe Jones convinced them somehow its "no big thing"? But then where's Kat? ARGH, no Friday cliffhanger my @ss. x D Cool outlook though, older-looking Annie is WHOAH.
