..........What am I looking at here? A very old meme. Time seems to have frozen, and with that I suspect that things are about to get intense.

I think the turn to greyscale is a sign that someone wants a private chat with Annie. I see four possible entities. From most to least likely, they are: Coyote, possibly making comments that he doesn't want Jones to hear. Muut, or one of the other guides, warning Annie about staying in the forest. Renard or Kat, going to give Annie a 'what the hell' speech. Possibly a message from a parent? The thing is, Jones apparently sees whatever-it-is too, despite being supposedly not even able to tell Annie anything meaningful about blinkers. Then again, Donlans are cool, but by now Anja's onmniscience fell below "questionable"...

I agree. Perhaps a small animal like a squirrel or ferret. A wolf looking after a ferret? Its the kind of thing coyote would do. As for fox. I cannot see that happening ever since Reynard did his finest howl. Wolf maybe...

I don't think Jones sees what's going on, it seems to be the same head-turned-to-the-side pose she had in the previous two panels.

Hm, Jones rules. And what is go in the last panels? Is that stasis, slow-mo, or it's hologram( room)?! Or just become night in forest.

Oh my gosh, what is happening? Whatever it is, Jones seems to be sensing it.
Also, I was wondering if this is the longest chapter, but it's not. Yet. Who (besides Tom) knows how many pages this chapter has left.

I don't think Jones is sensing anything. I think the everything turning gray except Anni effect is supposed to mean that everything else has come to a halt, something like a time-freeze, but Anni is still moving. Jones didn't stop mid-sentence because she noticed something, she stopped because she was frozen, hence her identical expression in the next panel. Her pose in the last panel is just the same way she was standing except from another angle.
I'm for the "something wants a chat with Anni" idea. My first thought was Surma, for some reason. But it could also be Coyote, a psychopomp, possibly Renard coming to her in the etherium? Or someone we haven't met yet. Turning into an animal is also a cool idea.
OR <wildspeculation="on"> this whole chapter or the entire comic has been Anni reliving a memory through hologram and she's about to snap out of it.</wildspeculation>

I was under the impression that taking on a new body when moving from the human world to the forest, or the forest to the human world, was one-time and irreversible. (I'm not sure the comic ever actually said that, but that's the tone it gives in "A Week for Kat" and other such cases.)

Oh man, oh man. WHAT IS GOING ON? Friday cannot come soon enough. I am going to be teething with anxiety until the reveal. Oh god the SUSPENSE. ... but yay, Annie remembered Kat. and she's getting taller. The height difference between her and Jones is much smaller now. Couldn't see that too much before, but now it's more clear (even if everything else ISN'T).

Yay! We are finally about to see Anthony! What else could something that has such a calming, stilling effect be? (other than the other reasons listed of course)
And Annie did need a reminder of the recklessness of her actions. I think Jones is not as cold as she seems.

I think it's just time stopped for everyone except Annie, it just happened in mid-word for Jones. She'll probably continue on from where she was cut off when whatever's happening ends.

It can't be Anthony, because the end of Chapter Fourteen specifically stated that Annie doesn't hear from him for another *two* years. Only one year has gone by since then in the comic.
(I wonder whether the third treatise and break following it might have confused some of the readers into thinking that this is the end of Annie's third year at the Court, rather than the second. Or maybe it's simply the passage of time in the real world, where it's been over three years since Chapter Fourteen appeared.)

And Kat's book is still in Annie's room. This is both bad for Annie and good for Annie at the same time. Kat needs to turn that book in so she'll have to search for it. She'll either find it in Annie's room, ask Rey about it, or maybe not find it and get in trouble herself. In any case, Kat will learn that Annie has been cheating and needs help. She'll be mad at Annie, not just for cheating but for not asking for help. She can try to tutor Annie with those troublesome classes. Kat's just not the kind of girl to turn her back on a friend just because she gets mad at them.

I'm glad you all figured out this was a freeze-time situation; I couldn't figure out what was going on. It creeped me out, though.
Also, what the heck, Annie? Can't own up enough to talk to Kat and Rey (and Eglamore) yourself? You've already struck a deal with Coyote, so it's not like they could trap you back at the court. You're "safe" in the Forest for the summer, since that's what you want. The least you could do is explain your choice to those whom you have an obligation to. They're your friends and people responsible for your safety. You're acting like a selfish little girl. :-(

WILD SPECULATION REGARDING TURNING INTO AN ANIMAL:
Coyote gives Annie Renard's old body for the summer.
END SPECULATION.
But in all seriousness, it may be Coyote. However, that may mean that Ysengrin is allowed to speak to Annie too.
As for Muut. He can't stop time because that would be affecting the human realm, which the "Death entities" are not allowed to do.

That's how she learned Egyptian. Stopping time does not affect the human realm. Its simply stopped. (Stopping a car does not affect the car. Its the same car, just not moving.)

At the end of the strip Annie is waking up from the wild trip induced by the psychotropic trap Kat put in her homework
Kat thought it was Zimmy or Jack who were breaking in her backpack, so she installed in it a spring trap with a minuscule syringe that injects a small dose of LSD to the schoolwork burglar.
