It seems like the parallels between Ysengrin and Renard are being redrawn here, when Ysengrin is (possibly) given care of Annie.

This page is kind of... adorable. The comic is finally back to happy (for now), haha. As much of a dick as Coyote can be, he still is pretty good at cheering people up, I guess. And the dynamic between Jones and Coyote is great. Fortunately it seems likely that they might meet again. Yay for ruffled!Jones (and not-sad-anymore!Annie )!

Final thing: Ysengrin has mastered the pout. It is the poutiest pout ever. Pout. How did I not notice that?!

I hope Kat isn't too upset or sad, is what I hope. They were going to go on vacation together, after all. It's a bit of a sudden dropping-out, and for no reason that had anything to do with poor Kat. Yeah, me too. I was really looking forward to her trip with Kat. Granted, all this new information has been amazing, and learning more about the Forest will be useful, but I thought it would be neat to see Kat and Annie in the great outside somewhere. An odd, different sort of chapter, kinda like Schoolyard Myths. A break from the intrigue would be nice. :-) Now that it is agreed she can stay, she can retrieve her things, (toothbrush, etc), explain things to Kat & family, settle Rey's situation, and apologize to Eglamore for the whole 'fiery death wave of death' thing... Oopsie! That would be good; I'd feel much better if Annie smoothed things out with Rey and Kat before she took off on her own for the whole summer. Otherwise, she could really poison her relationships with both of them, which would suck.

The panel of Jones with her hair blowing around is pretty hot. Granted, I'm sure the effect would be lessened if the comic had smell-o-vision to convey the essence of Coyote breath, but still: hot.
Is Annie's blinker stone still in her room? She could use it to pop off briefly and write a note to Kat, etc.

There's no reason why she'd have to stay from this moment on... Coyote still has to make arrangements with a family to house Annie, they need time to prepare for a guest, etc., and its already late.
I'm not sure what time it is but Annie should go back to her room, get a good nights rest and, if she gets everything done, maybe come back tomorrow or the next day. She still has homework to turn in, finished or not.

I'm glad that Jones did act as Annie's proper guardian and that her position as such was respected by Coyote and Annie! Nothing was considered settled until Jones agreed. I'm somewhat surprised Ysengrin did not react when Jones stated she questioned his sanity. That lets me believe he's not as bad as she assumed. If he was really irrational, he may have become violently defensive.

What I love about Panel 6 is how much Tom can convey just by having Jones stand there. Her face hasn't changed... You consider suddenly having no face at all to be no change?

ETA: Also, Coyote claims he "can almost feel how anxious" Jones is to return to the Court. So Coyote can sense anticipation or eagerness in Jones. Or he is just bluffing. Which I think is more likely, because anticipation and eagerness are not words I associate with Jones. So Annie just ditched Kat for the summer. And Kat's homework book is still in her room. I think there will be fallout. Probably. Good observation on the homework, btw, completely forgot about that. Knowing Annie, she will probably ruin everything with Kat, Rey, even Eglamore by being worse than Boxbot, and be forgiven at the end of the chapter regardless.

gosh golly gosh golly gosh golly, so many things, my head (among other things) is overheating
a) last panel, it's like "it's settled, final point (black sun), end of discussion", but it also conveys a feeling of pleasure in coyote that ..., somebody please correct me if this is outside forum guidelines, but it looks quite orgasmic on his part....
b) the eyes, oh my god the eyeessssss, i don't know if this has been noticed or stated, but, did you see that since like 5 comics ago coyotes eyes are red? and they're ussually black? and the moment they started changing is not random at all....., that...., has me pissing my pants severely
c) coyote is getting into everyone's mind.., i like it in panel 4 or in the panel that he tells annie that rey loves her, it's like he's going through them, piercing their minds (or hearts or whatever the case), it's quite creepy and violent to me, but i've got the feeling that that's the true essence of coyote's power, the power of words, manipulation and such.., and in wandering eye's words "coyote is no liar, therein lies the danger, just be careful on how you handle his advise"
d) ok, i had to go back to look for jones quote..., it's time to admit it..., i harbor psl for jones... i..., don't know how i should feel about that
e) no, really, what does coyote want? i mean..., as for the mood of the comic he wouldn't be straight up evil, and even if he were, what is his goal? "each side is as bad as the other"..., the court as i see it is quite simple in that sense..., man's endeavour to become god, to understand and control everything, so..., coyote? what's up with him? i'd start up by him being selfish, but..., that doesn't quite ring either..., GNAHHH, well, he has a "big secret", i guess it's just one of those "telling everything right away would make for a boring story"..., now i feel so played....
f) as in e), i think the main point here, between coyote and jones is control, in this case control over annie.., or not control really, "supervision"..., are we forgetting she's just a kid!!!!! a semi orphan, kat anja eglamore and such i'm sure feel of her as part of their family, and don't trust the forest at all..., so yeah, imagine how they'd feel with a kid spending three months in the wild with..., yeah.... (also, not that we care coz we don't like him, but daddy would most certainly not approve...., but he's not around to say anything so.., insert expelitive for him here)
g) if jeannes lover could talk to birds to send his messages i see no reason why annie couldn't be with aly's family.., it's the natural choice i guess.., mindwise, bodywise she would be most confortable with a family of elves...,
h) scotland and paris..., a bird of the forest could make such journey to deliver letters? or kat would just carry the blinker stone for communication?
i) re reading the beginning of the chapter has made me sad, the choice was clearly laid out, summer with the donlands, a boy wooing her, cheating on her homework, that would be what was on her mind before, tipically human problems, tipically not all that unhealthy problems a girl should live on her pre-teen years..., now she has her humanity questioned, the trust on (and most likely of) the court shattered, the trust on the generation preciding her..., politics politics politics, rey, yisengring, life on the forest, [most likely jeanne], it might be better in the long rung, when she figures it out she could have a much broader and wiser perspective on many things (or not), but.., yeah, it's not the easy way.., not what i'd want for a child i cared about... [i think i didn't like her that much until just now when i began to think of her as a child..., all this time, renard was right)
j) page 815..., yeah, i most certainly don't like that guy, you're the one who was supposed to keep it in your pants, or use a freaking condom, where do you get off being angry at the child you sired? ..., that's how the shit gets handed down from one generation to the other..., that's the awesome of storytelling, make you think about things that happen every day...
k) i would o so love to have a picolo-gohan out of ysengrin-annie..., i want more of Ys!!!! annie could help him get a little past his rage, and Ys could help her in the subtle ways of stfu. between the choices for father figure he's warmer and more vulnurable than antony, she's more open to him than to eglamore, and well, with rey there's just too much baggage, frankly i think what Ys would have to offer against rey is that rey is just too smart.., all that witty banter is just too good to avoid talking serious.., and look what happens when they do...
l) how come coyote stopped smiling when he found out annie didn't know about her circunstances but did smile when telling her..., yeah, what's up with that?
m) the eyes, oh my god the eyes
[edit] n) so if elfloverboy could send the bird to give messages, does that mean that animals in gk world are sentient? that would make for a scary scary natural food chain...
o) you see? you see? all this time and powerful banter was really about annie's choice..., sadly (or gladly, time will tell) coyote is way more pushy than jones...,
p) so te mistake jones was mentioning was not annie sharing info with coyote..., is letting coyote give answers to annie..., i guess it'd have to happen sooner or later, but things would have been different if it was anja doing the answering..., [i'd like to think the court didn't have a hand to play on this..., and the donlands and such maybe thought it was antony's responsability to decide and didn't want to overstep or whatever? ..., well, anyway, this is what ended up happening.
q) weasel off ?¿ yeah, i know you have a history with her, but i don't apreciate such tone on my psled jones
r) one thing that's been on my mind for sometimes..., who gave Ys his clothes? are there elf taylors¿? faeries did it for him?
s) yeah, so now the creatures of the forest wont be so scared with her..., yeah..., that, whatever
t) the eyesssssssssssssssssssssssss, THE EYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I'd like it if she could stay in the forest WITH Annie for the summer.

It seems to me Coyote is implying that Jones would actually see merit in the idea, so it's not just a Jedi mind trick. I meant that Jones came in expecting to retrieve Annie, and I kind of expected Jones to succeed, since she is pretty on top of things, yet Coyote managed to convince her of the merits of letting Annie stay, leaving her without any counter-argument. You consider suddenly having no face at all to be no change? In this comic, having no face usually conveys a blank emotion (or being far away). What pax said.

To everyone who's wondering what Rey will do while Annie's in the Wood: recall that Coyote claimed Rey only remains in the Court because of his love for Annie. Rey may insist on joining Annie in Gillitie. In fact, I know a few other people have suggested that Coyote's real reason for allowing Annie to stay is because he hoped Rey would join her. Someone over at TV Tropes pointed out that Coyote in the final panel somewhat resembles a Chnoubis.

Tom has said that Coyote's only motivation is his own amusement. Fortunately for the story, Coyote has enough foresight to realize that a living audience is better than a dead one. As far as his goals, he seems to want Reynardine to be bestest buds with him. First, "[Annie's conception] was not an accident and it was not imposed on [Surma]". Second, I don't see anger on Anthony's face in that page; heck, I don't see any emotion on his face. You could just as easily interpret his leaving the room as him being embarrassed that his daughter saw him in a moment of vulnerability. Or even if he was angry, perhaps the rational part of his mind knew darn well that there was no good reason to be angry at Annie, so he left the room to prevent himself from saying or doing something he would later regret. You know, Jones can defend herself.

They wouldn't even let Rey leave with Annie for the summer break, it's hard to imagine spending time in the forest with Coyote would be any better, from their perspective. ETA: Although, if Annie insists on it, they might not have a choice. They don't want to break Annie's control over him.

It would also be some wicked cruel irony, considering that this entire chapter was kicked off by Anja trying to explain to Annie why it's so important that Rey remain in the Court

Well,Kat did promise never to leave Annie alone for the summer again...so clearly the Donlans will be joining Annie in the woods this summer. Or if not,i think all Annie would have to do is give Kat her stone and they would be able to talk anytime

I can't help thinking that the Court would have had better hope of persuading Annie to come back if they'd sent Kat rather than Jones (though there'd have been some obvious practical difficulties there). In Annie's present condition, she wouldn't be likely to listen to any grown-up at the Court, even Jones, but Kat might have been able to get through to her.

Not even Eggers is allowed in the forest, so I would have to guess that Jones is the ONLY person able to enter the forest without any repercussions (besides Annie). Yss would likely kill any human that enters the woods and we all know how robot ended up....
