Assuming Annie has the normal insecurities of youth... the handshake was just a reaction and she'll spend far too much time kicking herself about it.. "I SHOOK his hand? Who does that? I'm such a dork with guys... " Sure, but it's still a friendly gesture. She didn't reject him with disapproval. She just ignored the advance (after going totally wide-eyed at it). Romance aside, I wouldn't mind if Annie and Jack's friendship develops more because that gives us another window into Annie's mind. It's possible there's things she doesn't wish to discuss with either Rey or Kat.

It's been established that that boy is Jack's dad.

Right, but what I find interesting is the difference in relationship between the two sets of characters. Granted, a lot has changed since Surma and the lot were in school, but you would think that Jack's father would be opposed to his son having any close association with the daughter of two such a "freaks."

One would hope. It is also possible that the younger Hyland misrepresented his father's words, figuring that an alternative position would better promote his own immediate interests. We have no specific evidence favoring either interpretation over the other.
