shutXup? Woo! I honestly wasn't expecting such a quick fix (well, relatively) to that nasty spider problem.

Zimmy destroyed the spider and Jack lost consciousness, I wonder what that implies about the level of control the spider had over him. Since Zimmy never sleeps, there's also the possibility the spider (being a creature from Zimmy's illusions at least in part) may have caused Jack to not sleep as well. So it could simply be that once the spider was removed he simply passed out from exhaustion. Or lack of food as someone else said. It's probably safe to say that the spider pushed Jack to do things that he wouldn't have normally done/been able to do, so it's not a real surprise to me he passes out after it's removed and destroyed.

So was it the spider asking Zimmy out or Jack?

And that, ladies and gentelmen, is how you deal with a spider infestation. I agree with those who say Jack fainted from simple exhaustion, after the strings were cut, so to speak. The boy has been through a lot. I wonder what is he going to be like after the whole ordeal? Anyway, am I the only one who gets the distinct feeling that Zimmy's collectedness is not just "it rained, so all is fine", but also due to the fact that the whole experience, "being Annie" and whatnot, had some profound effect on her? As if she found something important? Maybe that's one part of how Annie was important in all this. One thing that comes to mind, is that all this happened right after Zimmy's jealousy outburst... maybe that changed into feeling more certain? And I bet in Zimmy's case feeling less scared about losing Gamma means everything when it comes to mental collectedness. Also, why hadn't anyone tried to finish mad Jack's final words for him? I, for one, think that "...take over the world" looks just fine, some things never get old ^^

Well that's the end of that. It seems like they could have avoided this whole mess if Zimmy had just popped that spider when Jack got hijacked on the roof in the first place, back in the power station chapter, but then I guess that wouldn't have been as interesting. I think all Zimmy was lacking was the courage or will to do it, and that she had known about the spider all along. I believe once the illusion started that she wanted to be like Annie so she could fix it, and actually allowed herself to conjure up an illusion to become Annie. I think that with Annie not doing anything, and letting Zimmy take control of the situation, it shows that Annie knows she can let others fix their own problems, and that sometimes people only need a nudge in the right direction.

This reminds me of that incident with Martin (the boy who accidentally started a fire, that killed him and his family). Back then Annie also helped solving a problem mainly by just being there, without actually doing much.

Oh no Zimmy squished Elglamore who was the spider!
Remember when some people said Annie should just kill the spider and some other people said there's probably a good reason not to.

Sorry, Jones! Zimmy is now officially the coolest character! Oh, wow... A defensive creepy child transformed into a confident beautiful spider-slayer. And this was my first thought too: This reminds me of that incident with Martin (the boy who accidentally started a fire, that killed him and his family). Back then Annie also helped solving a problem mainly by just being there, without actually doing much. And here comes the questions: 1) Did spider want to meet her? If yes, I'm sure he didn't expect this... But what did he expect? To get a date? 2) Or was is it Jack's real subconsciousness that was looking for Zimmy? Knowing she could save him from the spider?

Hmm, I just checked the formspring thingamajig. Someone asked about Jack's come on to Zimmy and whether that was the spider's doing, and Tom just responded with "Partly, yes". Oh lord, Jack really is a weirdo if any part of him is attracted to Zimmy.

I think that with Annie not doing anything, and letting Zimmy take control of the situation, it shows that Annie knows she can let others fix their own problems, and that sometimes people only need a nudge in the right direction. I wonder if that gives new meaning to the scene near the start of Chapter Twenty-seven where Kat and Reynardine were expressing their concern over Annie's constant meddling. Perhaps one of the points of this two-parter is Annie learning that she doesn't need to keep on acting like a conventional hero - that she can stay in the background and gently prod people to do the things that need doing. (I wonder if, for that matter, Zimmy-as-Annie was intended as Annie's old heroic tendencies taken to an extreme; some of her actions in that period, such as shouting "Don't listen to him, Jack!", did seem almost cliched - which might have been deliberate on Tom's part.) At any rate, let's all give thanks that Zimmy crushed the spider and threw it away rather than eating it. Though she obviously knows better than to put something like that in her mouth, when we don't even know where it's been. No, wait, we *do* know where that spider's been - which gives all the more reason not to eat it.

You know what I mean, silly wanderer. Can you imagine their honeymoon if she's stressed? Suddenly it's no longer sunny Fiji, but Zimmingham and your waiters are nobodies! And I say this with the utmost respect for everyone who works in the food service industry.

Yeah sure, there are issues to be worked out, but all relationships have those. ;D Seriously, Zimmy does have some attractive features. They're just usually hidden beneath her demonic exterior.

Maybe it was too small to see at the time. I got the impression that after the first event Zimmy was too burdened with her own problems (and frustrated over the fact that the fake rain didn't help her) to really care about Jacks problems. "Well, sucks to be you, mate". She probably thought something along "Sucks to be me too, so why should I care?". Now however - as she has just had all of her etheric waste washed away - she has the energy to care about others and help where she can.

I really love this page. Mostly for the SPLAT of course, but also for the continuing theme of Jack saying and doing things that would be seen as romantic if only Gunnerkrigg Court was a normal high school, but instead come off as slightly insane.
I'm glad he is (seemingly) freed of the spider now, but I don't think he'll be recovering from this ordeal after a single nap.

I always marvel at how pretty Zimmy is when she isn't all crazy-black-eyed, but now with this awesome-sauce on top of it, she's just one amazing little dish, isn't she?

Oh lord, Jack really is a weirdo if any part of him is attracted to Zimmy. Maybe he's just trying to make up for the whole mind screw operation he has been responsible for. "Uh, hey, it's been a pretty cool romp through your psyche, ha, ha. Why don't you let me buy you a milkshake and let me make it up to you some how?" Meantime, Zimmy sees how the whole mess has gone too far and realizes why she should kill the source of the irritation. Perhaps she knew he had the spider before, but didn't think it mattered to her.

WOOOO! I did a happy dance and gave a quiet cheer when I saw that comic! Absolutely wonderful ending to a very complicated chapter.
I love Zimmy's look of confidence and the smile on her face. She reminds me a lot of Annie right now - I think this is how Annie would be if she hadn't had so many sad things happen in her life. We just don't see Annie smile like that, but I can imagine her doing it. It's interesting, though, that Zimmy can smile confidently like that when she's had a pretty tough life too.

What would be a real mindscrew to cap this chapter off now, is if Zimmy, who seems unusually collected and Annie-like here, suddenly turns out to be Annie all along.
