Break out the BLUH! BLUH! everybody!
Things tend to go pretty well for Annie, so I kind of like seeing something blow up in her face.
This also explains why she was extra icy towards him the last time they met. I guess the summer in the forest gave her the idea to play a mean trick instead of bottling up that resentment.

I think its her fire elemental side lashing out, and she almost looks ready to go SuperSaiyan.

No one gonna say it? Then I will. WHAT A TWEEST! C'mon, Annie, not cool, a better revenge would be burning a few cobwebs or leaving a mean youtube comment about a Charlotte's Web clip. (Although Annie would never lower herself to the level of angry youtube commentary) Seems like Annie hasn't gotten all together on how to interact with others properly just yet but at least Jack isn't extra crispy right now. I mean, at least she got it out of her system but if this was her plan all along..s'not a very good plan. Did..did she get plans from Red? Red: Yeah, then tell the big fart that you don't like him! Then he'll beg you to be his friend! Annie: I don't want that, I just want him to feel awful and guilty. Red: It works for that too! Telling people you don't like them works for EVERYTHING!

We've seen her be cruel before, back when she and Renard wear fighting, but still, this I didn't expect.

You know, by the mean-spirited logic Annie is using here, it would be fair game to blame her for Surma's death.

Unless the plan is with the Etheric like with binding the tree or helping out Mort. (Jeanne incident aside) People, though? Not good. Let's just make a mental note to not put too much faith in Annie's plans when they involve people.

When Jack says 'I mean, what was all this?', he seems to be gesturing back towards the party downstairs, but I can't see why that would be bad, but the way he is saying it, he seems to be referring to more than just the conversation they just had.

I think he's making reference to her flirting with him all night, going up on the balcony alone with him, and not shooting him down until the last possible second, with a smirk on her face.

You know what, I've lurked in this forum long enough. Time to join the fun!
I really enjoy this page, partly because it clears up that ambiguity of whether Annie was flirting a few pages ago or if she was being honest and trying to hurt Jack. Although I'd originally been hoping for the former I'm really glad it turned out to be Annie's own attempt at 'revenge,' just because I'm loving this interaction. And how great to see Jack is calling her out, and how genuinely concerned he looks. We rarely get to see serious!Jack.
Also, weird thought: what if Annie didn't really mean it to get back at Jack, but she's upset by how things went and she's covering up her embarrassment by saying she still blames him for the events of Spring Heeled? Unlikely at this point, but a lot of things have gone unexpectedly the last few pages. xP

Yeah, I had a confuse too. I think he's making reference to her flirting with him all night, going up on the balcony alone with him, and not shooting him down until the last possible second, with a smirk on her face. I guess that's the only thing that makes sense in context, and it explains Annie's reactions in the past few strips and Jack's reference to an "all this" but I didn't get it at all until I came to the forum. I think that's my tired brain, though. So Annie set up this whole sneaking out party and the pairing off so she could bring Jack out here, put her hand on his shoulder, let him put his hand on her hip, and then tell him in the flirtiest possible way that she didn't actually like him. Great revenge there, Annie. Brilliant. OK, now that I can read the last few strips with that in mind, I completely do not buy- 1. That Annie doesn't like him. She's tried to convince herself she doesn't like him, but come on Annie, you scooted up next to him and let him put his hands on you, and your "revenge" is nonsensical. 2. That Jack doesn't like her. Now that we know Annie's tone was meant to be mean, not playful, look at www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=931 again and tell me that Jack isn't momentarily at a complete loss before he invents the "phew" and the Zimmy story. 3. That Jack is crazy. That was an act to get back at Annie for being an ass.

Welcome to the forums, Riahk! Unlikely at this point, but a lot of things have gone unexpectedly the last few pages. xP Right before you posted I was looking up this formspring reference where it is revealed that Jack and Antimony didn't really know why they were meeting before the Fire Spike chapter. This leads me to believe that this is probably not the hashed endgame of an Antimony revenge plot, she's probably making this up as she goes. I agree with Eversist about the smirk as far as her enjoying delivering the turn-down a bit, probably for the reasons stated. Now we add some ego-bruising because Jack likes someone else better. And that someone is Zimmy, that's even worse.

Haha, nice plan carver!
Actually, I'm not sure this was a plan, so much as something she came up with on the spot when Jack seemed to be showing some interest in her. Kat did have to prompt her to go talk to him...

Kat did have to prompt her to go talk to him... That's true, Kat did. Which raises the question, is she just lying? If so, why? What are her real motivations. If not, does Kat know what's going on?

I don't know what to think about anything he's saying after that whole business of him being "in love" with the person who sucked him into nightmareland for who knows how long, and didn't really seem to care all that much. Not to mention the fact that as far a we know, he's ever even said a word to her. This whole chapter is just turning out to be awkward on top of awkward.

Something about this doesn't seem right to me.
That grudge seems just a bit unreasonable, even for Annie's mean streak
Also, flirting with him seemed to be coming a bit too naturally to her earlier

Also, flirting with him seemed to be coming a bit too naturally to her earlier Well, if we accept that Annie was pranking him, then it makes sense that it wouldn't be completely natural. ETA: Also, I must say, I really love Annie's expressions in this page. Jack's are pretty good too.

Welp, remember that Jack did, waaaay back, ask Annie about Zimmy. Maybe he found her. And then, right before Zimmy skooshed the spider on his head, he asked her out. I know that this wasn't really "him," but he seemed to have been aware of the spider being in control of him, if he remembers it whispering in his ear all the time. Lots of things happen off camera, so it's possible that they've had interaction, but likely not, considering they're not even in the same house. As for being in love with someone who endangered you, and didn't give two flying effs... it's all the spider's (lasting) influence. Edit: Added links.

you know, it could well be something she brought up because Jack put her on the spot, so to speak, when he asked what that was all about. It seemed like she had paused to think of a reason, and she grabbed the first one that she could think of.
Perhaps she just doesn't want to let herself get close to someone she might eventually end up really liking, and her defense is to lash out to push said person away.
