Seems pretty surreal, I'm thinking this is a dream sequence.

Couple of interesting tidbits:
1) End of flashback, according to the curved lower right hand corner
2) The flowers that Surma is stepping among aren't ever clearly shown, where they're growing, but I suspect this scene is taking place at the same location where Reynardine's fox body currently sleeps waiting for him. It would be poignant and fitting that Coyote would choose to place Rey's sleeping body in a place where he and Surma used to spend time. (This is speculation only.)

End of flashback, according to the curved lower right hand corner Good catch on that one. Combined with hal9000's comment it seems this may be a dream of Reynardine's. He'll wake up in the next page.

Why are this page's bottom left and bottom right corners curved, when the previous one wasn't? I thought all flashback pages had curved corners.

The previous page had rounded corners at the top, which is the beginning of a flashback. Rounded bottom corners signal the end of a flashback.

Previous page curved at top to indicate start of flashback, current page curved at bottom to indicate end of flashback. Consistent, I believe, with previous flashbacks (though I would have to check this).

Consistent here as a one-page flashback, and here as the start of a flashback... though interestingly the chapter (which is a whole flashback) ends normally.

I found a two page flashback that is consistent here. This is really now just for my indulgence so thank you.

No holds barred for the Freakiest Surma Face I see. Looks like a demented bobblehead...
Nice to see stuffed wolves dream, I suppose.

I was expecting another full-chapter flashback à la Ties, but it looks like this chapter's plot arc might be more similar to S1's.
This page seems a tad surreal, but nothing happening is outside the realm of possibility for the GC world, so I don't think we should dismiss it as a dream just yet.

We don't know (yet) that this is a dream, and since it has the earmarks (literally, actually) of being a flashback, we should probably assume it is that until shown otherwise. Which could be as soon as Monday, but still.

Rey, darlin', that was a nice try, but I don't think she's listening anymore. Shiny new powers and all. Dream or flashback, it's still rather sad either way.

Alas, poor Renard. Surma seems to have led him on at least a bit on purpose, then. Perhaps it was guilt over this when Renard committed his crime that led her to leave the Court.

This page makes my heart hurt for Reynardine.
Edit: Also, his slight stutter reminded me of Diego - did Tom do that on purpose?... perhaps Reynardine betrays Surma? And that's why she is in the hospital? (very wild spec, I know!)

A dream mixed with a Memory would be my guess Only in a dream do I think he would have the courage to tell Surma his feelings face to face, when he was his old self.

"It's the name of a demon who steals the hearts of young girls."
"Then... am I a demon?"
Also, those last few panels make me want to say, "Computer, define dancing."

Loving this chapter so far. It could go so many interesting places. I'm really intrigued about the prospect of a Rey-centric chapter - it'd be fun to watch the little things he does in his assumed role as Antimony's guardian, that she doesn't even notice, and get glimpses of one of her and Kat's usual adventures happening in the background.
Or something else!

TAlso, his slight stutter reminded me of Diego - did Tom do that on purpose? First thing I thought as well. I think it means that Renard's love, like Diego's, is not reciprocal. And that Renard might take drastic action as a result. Not drastic like Diego/Jeanne of course, but drastic enough that someone might get hurt. Foreshadowing of Renard taking the body of a man, and eventually killing him. Also, I don't believe this is a dream, but an accurate memory. Remember, Coyote said that with practice, Annie would be able to lift her whole body with the slightest thought. And we know Surma has blinker stone type powers even without using a stone. And it's not hard to believe that Renard could fly, being a deity of sorts.

Very dreamy sequence, looks like what Tim Burton would do if he was still doing good movies.
