...say what? I'm actually more confused after I got the picture to work. Somehow that sixth panel fills me with a sense of dread. Wild speculation: as a result of a new crush on The New Kid, Kat's cuteness grows too fast and the entire school explodes as a result of cuteness overload. On a more serious note, somehow I get the feeling that kid is trouble, even if just because he apparently has no interest in following school rules. (then next update, I'll probably be proven wrong and it turns out he's so new he doesn't have a uniform yet. But still!)

So, like, do new students get to not wear their uniforms and be smart alecs about it for a certain amount of time or something?

Hmm, well, Annie was wearing her uniform right off the bat, and since she transferred into Gunnerkrigg Court instead of being there from the beginning of the term, I'd say we started seeing her pretty soon after she came. [001]-[005]. So, I think this guy is jsut going to bend the rules a bit.

Daaawwwww.... Kat is SO adorable in panel 6! Absolutely stellar job, Tom! Winsbury cracks me up. "Oy! Are you trying to be smart??" Well, that's what ya go to school for, innit? This new kid does seem awfully relaxed about blatantly ignoring school rules. Hopefully there's some good reason why he doesn't have a uniform. Because "I'm just better than you" is NOT a good reason. I can't wait to see what transpires between him and Anja! um, I am totally missing Dork457's "balloon fight" connection. Is this something only cool people will understand?

Maybe he's an exchange student. In my school, we got a French one, and she was allowed to wear her own clothes.

Paz is an exchange student, and she wears the school uniform.
But I suspect that, now that Mrs. Donlan has just arrived, we'll soon be getting a few answers about the new kid (though, knowing the way that things are in Gunnerkrigg, they'll be the sort of answers that lead to more questions).

Paz is an exchange student, and she wears the school uniform. My first thought as well, but she might wear the uniform because she likes it.

i dont get the balloon thing either >_>;; but even though it says "look at that guy smilin at you" for the caption, im still thinking its a girl :p
also. i think kat likes girls ...like anne... ...kat likes anne :0 :0 :0~~~
yea i think those two should be together :p liiiiike i think anne's gonna get jealous/possessive of kat :D i just wanna see it ^_^
also, i love the detail put into mrs. Donlans outfit; especially in the wrinkles on her elbow; thats easy to overlook, hard to do, and often goes unnoticed... good job there!

Between this and Balloon Fight this thread is a tad odd. Perhaps this boy will be a long-term addition to the cast, turning Antimony and Kat's Mystery Adventure Duo into a Mystery Adventure Trio. Anyway, I doubt he's -bad-. I mean, Reynardine's pretty much a killer, and he's still shown as having some redeeming qualities. That doesn't necessarily mean he's -good-, either. It's really too early to tell, unless Tom's pattern of "introduce character one way - Aha they're really another way!" holds out. Like how Zimmy and Gamma seemed a bit sinister at first, or how Reynardine seemed quite noble while in Sivo's body.

while i believe it would be a cool twist to have the new guy as a girl....I just can't believe any girl is that flat chested. XP
But yeah, I'm expecting some kind of explanation now the teacher is in.

They're twelve. Or thirteen. Or eleven, I'm not really sure but anyway; I don't really believe he is a girl, but even so none of the girls have ddeveloped much in the chest-department yet. None of Tom's girls are really top-heavy anyway.

jaede: in case you haven't noticed, there are no breasts in Gunnerkrigg Court. (ok, not entirely true, but close enough)

As a friend.Mini-rant: How come girls can't act nice and sweet with each other without guys always thinking they're lesbians? I mean, c'mon, holding hands and getting all gushy with each other (way more than Kat and Annie have done) is common and normal in a lot of countries. It's cute. Nothing more. Sorry to rant like this ... it's just that it gets really old after a while.

It's not just guys who can mistake friendship for something more, mrw. Er, anyway, it seems like you can have the satisfaction of having the Annie/Kat theories ground into the dirt as Kat is totally after this kid.
Not that that will stop people, mind you.

Kat is just one of those people who spends an incomparable amount of time blushing.

Mini-rant: How come girls can't act nice and sweet with each other without guys always thinking they're lesbians? You know, I actually wrote a long and informative reply to this, but found it – well, too ambiguous in places (read: I'm afraid it would get me banned, and that probably says it all), so I refrained from posting it at all. And now I had serious doubts to whether I should post this as well, but what the hell.

I really just wanted to make people think about it, but I probably could have worded it better, or not at all. (That's what I get for posting in a state of exhaustion after a day of exams that did not go well. )
Aaaaaanyway, how about that new kid? ;D Why do you think he's here for only a week? Is it because his family is visiting on a top-secret mission?

Wow, I totally read that wrong (as "maybe his family is AWAY on a top-scret mission") and started posting "maybe his family is visiting on a top-secret mission?" But then I realized, hey, wait, that's what mrw said!
Gods, I'm tired. So tired that I almost wrote Dogs, there.
ANYWAYS! New kid. Aly, huh. Guess what, Aly? You're not ALLOWED to call Annie "Annie". Know why? Me neither. I hope to find out in future comics.
