Commence speculation on who the girl in panel 6 is! Shell really looks/acts/talks in a way not fitting to his uniform.

Apparently Jack is a rare species around the Court halls.

Annie does not like all the attention.
I'm also guessing that it's not a rank marker on the uniforms. The old guy does seem superior even though they have the same mark. Shell looks and behaves just like a new recruit trying to prove himself in the new context.

Nothing to see here: neither the background students nor the readers will know (at least right away) who are those guys and what is writen on the note, and thus the "awww" expresses both the students' and the readers' frustration. This page is so meta :3

Shell looks so dejected, oh I do so wonder what mischief Jack has been getting up to in order to draw the relentless pursuit of Buddha and Shell. Well ok, maybe not relentless. Shell's buddy seems fairly easy going and none to fussed about Jack disappearing like that... Nothing to see here: neither the background students nor the readers will know (at least right away) who are those guys and what is writen on the note, and thus the "awww" expresses both the students' and the readers' frustration. This page is so meta :3 I know. I awwwwed myself.

Hmm, why do I suddenly have the desire for some kind of standoff between the headmaster and small tubby guy?

Yep. And the small tubby one is a man (notice how their jackets buttons).

Okay, this is gonna get a lot more mileage than it deserves, as it was mentioned in the first post, but why is the Bhudda working for GC security, considering he actually died centuries before?

Hm? You mean there is a different way of placing the buttons on the jackets? Traditionally, men wear the left section of the coat over the right one, and for women it's the opposite. You can see it in the page, Shell wears the right section over the left one, and Buddha has the inverse setting.

Wow. Was not expecting Buddha to show up to defuse the situation. Gotta love his line though. "Go back to your educations" indeed.
Anyhow, methinks that some of the ladies have taken a liking to what is apparently a new 'bad boy' Jack.

Anyway, apparently Jack is something of a celebrity. Interesting. It could be that he was known as "interesting" chap before, but seriously - expecting him to be obscure after this firework? Anyhow, methinks that some of the ladies have taken a liking to what is apparently a new 'bad boy' Jack. It's almost inevitable. "Awww!" probably would be emitted by onboard shippers network anyway, whoever would pass a note like that. That those people know Jack - come on, after cows he's a major rumour fodder, then "acting real crazy" should keep him in spotlights.

So today's comic was about...today's comic... 0_0 This goes beyond meta. No wonder Hotei showed up.
I'm going to go meditate on today's episode until my head bursts.

Anyhow, methinks that some of the ladies have taken a liking to what is apparently a new 'bad boy' Jack. Does seem like it. On the other hand, they might just be interested in the excitement generated by two monitors showing up after a half-crazed boy. Two questions: 1, if Jack has apparently been missing for weeks, do these authority people have anything to do with it? Was he being kept somewhere while they tried to diagnose his condition? 2, will Tom actually show Annie reading the note, or just skip ahead and have us guess?

I really think it's interesting that someone noticed the bismuth symbol on the bottom of Jack's shoe in the last page, but no one noticed (or no one said out loud) that Shell's jacket was buttoned in the girl direction.
So I got the impression that Shell is to "Mr. Kingpin" what young Jimmy was to Mr. Thorn. Anyone else see it that way? Specifically, that Shell is an older student, in training to be a Gunnerkrigg Court security/recruiter/whatever they really are.
I would guess that Shell is short for Shelly, Shellaine, Michelle, or something like that, and I would guess that since she wants to be a security agent, she wanted to use a less "girlish" form of her name.
And finally... I want to also add my praise for the cute girl in panel 6! Her hair is cute. I wouldn't mind seeing her around as a minor character in the future, sort of on the lines of Matt. Anyway, that's just my opinion.

The last three panels are awesome ;D I read somewhere once, that in times past, gentlemen would dress themselves and ladies would be dressed by their servants. It was easier for guys to use their right hands to open buttons on their own coats with that style. For women, the buttons were laid in a way that was easier for someone else to use their right hand to dress them. Shirts and blouses are similarly patterned right? And so ends the pointless trivia that will in no way improve your life or happiness!! Good bye, and good luck!

I think the main reason nobody pegged Shell before now is because she's rather *ahem* flat. And she has a rough face that looks pretty masculine. I'm impressed Tom took the detail of her jacket seriously. I still don't know why some of you still think she's related to Jack. There's almost no resemblance. Mr. Buddha Kingpin Fat Man seems rather affable. I like him.
