But then I saw the Super Metroid poster on page 597. And now I love it. Does anyone else have any specific moments that made this webcomic stand out to them?

This one: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=2Haha, just kidding. That's the first page. Though I've pretty much loved the comic sense the first time I started reading it. But really, I think the moment in the story in which made me really fall in love with this comic is this one: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=199Well, that whole chapter, really. That also happens to be the last page that had been updated when I finished going through the archives the first time. Zimmy and Gamma's relationship is amazing and intriguing <3

"Dr. Disaster and the Creepy Space Aliens from Outer Space". The fact that Tom could fit a parody of old-school pulp sci-fi into an urban fantasy story was what catapulted Gunnerkrigg to the top of my favorite webcomics list.

Exactly. Loved that chapter, it really gave Zimmy some depth of character other than 'freaky black-eyed girl", plus the whole messed-up chronology was very dramatic. Also, Annie's last panel there is a great line and shows the kind of person she is - 'I don't know what's going on but it's personal so I won't pry'. Great chapter. Plus we got to see some weird monsters in Zimmy's Jumps, which is always fun.

If I had to pick one thing, possibly the fact that at the end of "Dobranoc, Gamma" no one started up a mono- or dialogue to explain what had just happened.
Edit edit: Wait, that's exactly what the OP second post was about? That should teach me not to follow links before I post.

Well, first there was Zimmy (and also Gamma, but mostly Zimmy). And then the Tic Tocs. And then there was Dr Disaster. And then I started to like Reynardine alot more. And then there was Coyote. And then Red. And also there was the constant Jeanne mystery that interested me throughout. And most recently there's Jack and his face spiders.

Zimmy was definitely an addition to the cool factor for me, as I'm a big fan of Jamie Hewlett and her design immediately reminded me of 2D from the Gorillaz. Dobranoc, Gamma was definitely the first chapter that stood out to me in a way that told me something really special was going on here.
Joining the forums, though, really elevated my appreciation for the comic just having all sorts of people talking about the stories and bringing new things to light. All the opinions (whether I agree with them or not) give me more to think about. While Tom's the ultimate arbiter of where the story goes, it gives me a feeling like the story's all of ours.

I became hooked because of the story, but I loved it EVEN more when I found out that Tom could have a sense of humor with a comic that can be so serious sometimes.
When comic artists blend drama and humor seamlessly I'm usually pretty in love.

When comic artists blend drama and humor seamlessly I'm usually pretty in love. Exactly that. Awesome comic and I was smitten with it by chapter 3. Yeah, I pretty much like Reynardine and just hope he isn't some evil body-snatcher.

I liked the comic a lot from page 1, but I really started to LOVE the comic around "Broken Glass and Other Things". When Coyote was introduced in chapter 14, I pretty much decided it was the best comic ever, ever, ever.

Thank you. I never really liked Gamma and Zimmy though. I think my favorite moment was when Coyote was introduced.

Believe it or not, not only did I miss this post the first time around, but I also have just recently discovered Gorillaz, and was totally thinking the same thing! <3 Also, can you believe your post was on my birthday?? How cuh-RAZY! PS, with every single chapter, the title of this thread hold true to me. Hands down, without a doubt, favorite comic I've ever read. I just drink it all in :]

When I was young, we'd go to my grandmother's house every weekend. On the way back, at night, my father drove along a river, and on the other side of the river was a big industrial complex, I think now it was a refinery, all lit up in orange, with a mix of low buildings and metal towers, and blinking red lights atop the towers. In winter especially, there was smoke everywhere and, along with the lights' reflection in the river, it gave the place an otherworldly look. More than once, I fell asleep in the car and dreamed about the refinery. The first thing I saw of Gunnerkrigg Court, after following a link (on Questionable Content, I believe) was the power station at the top of this page: www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=450I said "wow" and thought about the refinery for the first time in years. I must have looked at that single panel for at least two minutes. Now that doesn't seem much but it is a really long time to be looking at a webcomic.

Mort!!! I'm a total Mort/Annie shipper to the end then again if Renyardine ever made me think he had more then paternal feelings for her I might change my mind.

I thought that GC was an interesting comic until "Dobranoc Gamma"; that was the point where I just had to up and declare it one of the best comics I've ever read. There was so much human emotion in that chapter from, Zimmy's fear to Gamma's quiet support to Annie's I-have-no-clue-what-happened-but-that's-okay.
It also probably helps that I adore Gamma.
