I think it's not a Wiimote, just an ordinary remote. I'm no expert on consoles, but I think if it was a Wii, it would be wiisible next to the TV.

I first made this account to post and rind you all that this is, after all, a work of fiction and that issues like the Gunnerkrigg staff leaving the kids out in the cold w/out being able to make a fire could be viewed as just a caricature of the stereotypical 'camping' experience (especially since it's a comic). Then I read the rest of the thread and saw this... Assuming this is the work of the staff, they're probably in the house. There's plenty of room, from the look of the place. Furthermore, Marcia's refusal to offer shelter makes more sense if she's actually hiding the "missing" kids. OK. I know people have postulated that Marcia is a nymph-turned human. What if she's on the 'side' of the Gillitie woods? This whole thing (the emergency at the court + the kidnappings by trees, which mysteriously started happening when Eglamore et al were gone) could have been orchestrated by anti-Court beings from Gillitie. That would explain why the kids are being kept in (preumably) that mansion Marcia's in, and why she might have been trying to give people the wrong lead with stories of a ghost.

I don't know if Gillitie is really anti-Court, so much as Court-leave-us-alone.
Of course that doesn't include Ysengrin. Because that guy's loopy.

He may not be the only one to have a grudge against the Court.
Since Marcia mentioned the ghost in front of Bob and Eglamore (who would get suspicious if there wasn't one about), I doubt that she's making it up. Unless they're in on the scheme as well.

True, true. I suppose that by the same point, attempted kidnappings would also fall under the same "It's fiction, it kind of make sense" umbrella. What I mean is, what you're reminding us means anything (i.e. terrifying-yet-character-building kidnapping plots OR mass Gillitie takeover) could really happen, at least on the comics page. Darn this "fiction" concept!

I had a thought. What if that room they're in is directly underneath this specific tree?
The tree could just pull roots downwards through some crazy Forest Magic, and drop the kid down there. It can just come back up when it wants to.

A way for them to get out would be if they just got themselves kidnapped again by someone else, whisked off to an easier located area. Someone like Candle Jack could pro-
