Those seeds that Ysengrim dropped in 'The Fangs of Summertime' have hatched and are doing something evil? I dunno. That would be my guess as well. That seems unlikely, but not impossible. And the timing on this seems rather unfortunate. If Jack should try anything crazy, none of the men are available to stop him. What a shock.

Check out track 10 Yes, that's an open secret. I'm looking forward to the field trip to Botany Bay. And AWESOME open secret that I was previously unaware of This is why after a year of reading I've taken to lurking the forums, to get little gems of fan information like this

Janet is Welsh! Incredible. BTW, is "Llanwellyn" locale-specific or "generic Celtic" ? I thought she was Irish or Scottish. Ah, ol' good Norwegian pirates, buccaneering Danes, Whose red-haired offspring everywhere remains
This girl would be a great pirate, with her attitude and such a... " fancy shooting", don't you think? ;D If Jack should try anything crazy, none of the men are available to stop him. I still bet on the current emergency being tied to Jack. Even though i remember we're still at the Tom's Yummy Twist Factory. This is why after a year of reading I've taken to lurking the forums, to get little gems of fan information like this I think i saw somewhere here a link to her song on YoTubby. And she even has a cowsong (no relation). ;D By the way... There they did stand and there they did stay When there came a young boy who was running away From a mad world, a bad world, a world of decay And it's comfort he sought in their branches I don't suppose someone going to patch Jack via teaching him to sing, though.

Janet is Welsh! Incredible. I thought she was Irish or Scottish. Funny, I was going to guess North Wales. Although I just figured that it wasn't Irish, it wasn't Scottish, and it wasn't English. To be honest, I don't much know about names in Europe at all, but still a guess. Hah, look at the two of them in panel 4, pretending like they weren't holding hands. Now -that's- what I call an open secret. I find myself wondering why they still bother keeping it a secret. When I was thirteen (last year) no one much cared if such things were going on. Maybe a boy like Winsbury 'wouldn't be fitting' of the daughter of the headmaster. I don't mean to be conceited, but it seems to be the only reason I can think of, unless the Brits treat such engagements differently. Who agrees with me that the kids are going to run rings around Marcia? I've seen that look on a teacher before. Nothing good follows. BTW, is Llanwellyn locale-specific or generic Celtic? It's not an Irish name, it's not a Scottish name, and I don't think it's an English name, as I said before. Process of elimination points to Wales.

I don't know much about Kate Rusby, having only heard of her through connections to her songs in this comic. Does she only sing her own versions of traditional folk songs or does she write her own songs too? She writes her own song as well. The last two albums I have by her, Awkward Annie and The Girl Who Couldn't Fly, were half or more original songs.

Finally, a last name for Janet.
Hang on, so the Headmaster's name may be Hyland Llanwellyn? Geez, poor guy.

The Headmaster's name is Hyland? Did Tom say that somewhere? I don't think it's ever come up in the comic...

I agree. THAT came way out of left field, didn't it?

Hyland was the jerk that young Eglamore got into a fight with at #542. I very much doubt it's the headmaster's name.

He'd know better than to even suggest she take his name. That arrow business showed pretty clearly who wears the pants in this relationship.

I don't mean to be conceited, but it seems to be the only reason I can think of, unless the Brits treat such engagements differently. I think at 13 a lot of boys would still be pretty immature about such things, so I guess Winsbury doesn't want to be made fun of for having a girlfriend. As for Janet, judging from what we've seen of her, I bet she likes keeping up the appearance of being high-class (she plays flute and uses old-fashioned language) but likes walking on the wild side - she probably finds a secret romance very exciting!

It's not an Irish name, it's not a Scottish name, and I don't think it's an English name, as I said before. Process of elimination points to Wales. Llan is as Welsh as Tre is Cornish or Mac is Scottish. Its a Welsh Gaelic stereotype/specific.

I very much doubt it's the headmaster's name. I concur. Hyland is that boy's family name, not given name. Also, I have a mate with the surname Hyland (or as we like to call him, Na-Na Republic of the Handsome Young Strangers).
