Which name/design should we use for the [Cups] suit? I've used Cups in the title just so we know what the original was.

Other: Open-topped containers for liquids.
So, any of the things you mention (except hearts) that fits the concept behind the card in question.

Question, Uly: Wouldn't the name for each suit depend on the name for the other suits as well? By voting on each one separately, aren't you statistically a lot less likely to get a set that goes well together? I'm just asking, I don't really know. I've decided to start expressing my thoughts in the form of questions, in the hopes that that will make people have less of a problem with me expressing myself around here.

I should have put a "Don't really mind" option shouldn't I. Ah well, too late now. We'll just spread the word that you can put "Don't care" as an Other.

The only real category of suits that go together are the alliterative options. The rest, I think, can be mixed and matched. Unless somebody has another suggestion of making the suits correspond. In that case we can have a separate poll on that suggestion. I should have put a "Don't really mind" option shouldn't I. Ah well, too late now. We'll just spread the word that you can put "Don't care" as an Other. I wouldn't. It makes identifying the majority harder, since you don't want to count people who don't care. It have the advantage that you know when the twelve people who voted on the last poll show up, so you can close it, though.

There's that risk, and I did think of doing polls asking "Would you prefer this group, this group or this group?", but I suspect we'd only have ended up with people saying "Well, I like this group except that one there, can I pick that group and suggest an alternative from another group?" People would have mix-and-matched any way. This way all the alternatives so far suggested are laid out in plain sight and mix 'n' matching is part of the decision. Other than the traditional playing cards suits (Hearts, Diamonds etc) the other choices are much of a muchness anyway. I mean that the Sword alts all mean 'Sword', the Cup alts all mean 'Cup' etc. If something really looks out we can have a look at it, but we probably won't have that problem.

A cup that either has a cat and/or star on it.
