Sharpening filters produce those haloes.

Something interesting I noticed while making image edits--in Kat's blue-tinted speech bubbles, there's a bit of a white "halo" around the text: As you can see, when I put text on the blue background, there's no halo. I'm not sure what causes this effect, since I haven't used an image editor more advanced than Paint. Anyone have any experience/theories? Do you think it's just an artifact of the process, or could it be intentional (maybe to make the text pop)? That looks like a compression artifact. Your version probably used less compression when you saved it as a jpeg, or perhaps you used a different file format altogether.

And here I was so pumped up for another hint Kat might be on the road to divinity with that "halo".

Just to point the obvious, it doesn't happen only around text or speech bubbles. Everytime a color meets another the "halo" is there. It's more noticeable around the black color.

These surely have been mentioned previously, maybe even in this thread, but they are things I noticed on reread anyway. [#37] "AFX237 v.7" on Kat's pyjamas. I Googled it and I knew in the first seconds it's exactly the thing Kat would love. [#1165] An ophan with photoresistors instead of eyes. I laughed on line so hard when I spotted this one.

I feel like I should not be writing here just to answer so here's a little more. [#846] Only today I realized Annie had no reason to wear two of the bandages; it's just on her right forearm till the end of Annie in the Forest. Maybe a souvenir from seeing Kamlen one last time before leaving? [ #1554 and #1555] If Tony wasn't basically walking dead at that point maybe he'd be worried how Surma got a cut on her cheek. (I know this has been discussed in that page.) But of course he wouldn't know what it means. Ooh, and the fact that the wolf plushie never really was just an innocent toy, which also explains why Rey carries stuff for Annie around later on. I somehow missed that bit completely.

Maybe a souvenir from seeing Kamlen one last time before leaving? Wearing only one armguard would be suspicious. Wearing two protects both her arms while climbing around on trees and running through forests. Alternative explanation: It's good outfit design and Just Looks Cool. And welcome to the forum! We're seeing a lot of new members recently...

Seems like there have been more new forum posters in the last two or three weeks than in the previous whole year! Well, whatever the inspiration, it's great to see.

Hmm, I can't say for anybody else but as a new person myself, the impetus to actually create an account was because things have been getting funky in the comic—not weird enough that I just throw my hands up and go I have no idea what is going on but more like I want to talk to other people about this. Though I do wonder why others are joining. I've been lurking on this forum for a long time.

For me, it was a comment here, I visited the link and got hooked by the art. So the time frame would match quite neatly (although it took me over a week to get to speed). I wonder if Samantha is active here; thanks, Samantha! Few more cool things hidden in the backgrounds that I did not really notice, I know them from the forums or TvTropes but they are cool nonetheless. I'm running out, guys :-D [#4] "Solitary study means just that"

I was always so focused on the other characters in panel 7 here that I completely missed Renard in the bottom corner laughing his butt off.

Also!! I've always been puzzled by the comment on this page: "Refer to previous homework question," which is the comment on page 605: "Homework question: Why might the cows not cut the grass in that area?" (the area around Young's Monument). I always assumed "Refer to previous homework question" was in response to Winsbury's actual question on page 608, "Why couldn't we go camping when the weather was nice?!" Which didn't seem to have anything to do with the laser cows and Young's Monument. Tonight it finally clicked that the comment is actually referring to the previous panel, in which Eglamore (the heir to Sir Young's position of Court Protector) pats a laser cow and the cow says "Get your hands off me." Apparently the cows' beef with Sir Young extends to everyone who holds his job!

It looks to me like James had some kind of issue with Tony even before Surma chose Tony over him, unless this is just a personality clash, or high school James just trying to be cool.

By the way, you have become pretty active for someone calling himself lurkerbot. Perhaps as a form of therapy, I am deliberately and very cautiously posting to try to invalidate my conviction that my contributions will always be so stupid or wrong or pointless that I'll embarrass myself and be ridiculed by everyone smarter than me in a public forum. Which, by the way, no one here has done to me. With me, as with Tony, the smallest thing can carry the greatest weight. I'm comforted that others here have expressed some of their similar struggles, and with more eloquence than I can.

The pattern of your "likes" in my posts, and some of the things you said when you did infrequently post, had me thinking for a while that you were Tom's sockpuppet. You may laugh. Otherwise, I am personally living proof you can say stupid shit and survive and even thrive despite that. Good communities are resilient and good commenters take feedback on board and move forward thoughtfully. I am convinced you are certainly thoughtful enough. I'm also on my third glass of single malt Scotch, which might occasionally explain a thing or two. It's not that I'm a drinker... it's that I'm not a drinker, haha.

Seriously though, I think now that Annie has become so much more outgoing and moved past the death of her mother we forget just how much she spoke and acted like her dad in those early years.

Also Sector 7G is where Homer Simpson works in the nuclear power plant. Astute observation, and one which the author intended.Welcome to the forums.

It occurred to me that in one case there was an indication that fairies display quite some unnatural predisposition towards abstract thinking even before the test. In Meetings and Remeetings, <Snuffle> just off the bat guesses that Rubik's cube can be solved in 30 turns. If you translate this into mathematical language, that's giving an upper bound on the diameter of the Cayley graph of the Rubik's group with a rather custom set of generators. It took people two decades to arrive at 29. Wikipedia gives a nice historical summary. Then the rabbit says he can do it in 20. They used supercomputers to prove this is even possible. People have been calling the Keplerian problem in Red Gets a Name high level math – but sincerely, albeit university level, that's child's play compared to the above. (One who's seen the calculation before, or has the right tools from elsewhere, should be able to replicate it from scratch.) I'm not sure if this is what Tom had in mind, but given that he has a degree in computer science it wouldn't be surprised he had some interest in group & graph theory. I love how he hides it behind "ten and ten and ten", or rendering some computer-related things (like the CPU) so blatantly wrong it's clear it's purposeful.

Then the rabbit says he can do it in 20. They used supercomputers to prove this is even possible. Forgive the allusion, but 17, even. No one's ever done it in-- --that is to say, 15. No one's EVER done it in-- --that is, fairies are gay, and innocent (or at least no jury would convict them), and often heartless, but they make up for it with hypertrophied imaginations and that trumps conventional computing every time. *edit* oh yes, and to wrap it round: One of the cube-solvers above is DC's Metron. Metatron is associated by some with a cubical lattice. The fairies are young; also they have been old. They have changed and passed away, but they're still here, ya mugs! *extradoubledogedit* It looks to me like James had some kind of issue with Tony even before Surma chose Tony over him, unless this is just a personality clash, or high school James just trying to be cool. And I am still asking myself if the comment under the page refers to someone else in the comic who also talks like that... Someone James was hoping would be in the photo, perhaps? Maybe Tony has always brought up...disconcerting...associations for him.
