Dun dun dunnn... what's the thing? A) Sir Young's Tomb B) The SEED BISMUTH YARGGGHHH! C) Some other random plaque/memorial D) A rock. D! ;D On a more serious note, probably not D only because it looks like it has straight corners and edges, so I'd guess C. Would be interesting if it was Jeanne's tomb... On another note, outside of the US and Canada, I'm quite sure they're of legal age. I'm almost positive they are in England, anyhow.

Casey, it was possibly the Bechdel test. It appeared in Allison Bechdel's comic Dykes to Watch Out For. In order to pass the movie, book, comic, etc must fulfill these requirements: 1. It has to have at least two women in it, 2. Who talk to each other, 3. About something besides a man. Her comic is pretty great. Hi garlicgreens! I don't believe I've welcomed you warmly to the forums before Well, welcome! (And do join the fun gathering in that place called The Introduction Thread, heh)On another note, outside of the US and Canada, I'm quite sure they're of legal age. I'm almost positive they are in England, anyhow. What's the legal age for drinking in England? In my country, it's 17 years. The day that we all get our full-fledged Citizenship Card.

Edit: ok, Casey's post is now below mine. Anyway, my mistake. That just means rageboy was even further off the mark.
Anyway, this page is the only page that I've agreed that the changes in art are becoming noticeable. Annie's and Kat's faces look really odd/different in panels 2 and 3 respectively.

The kids in Year 8 are either 12 or 13, depending on whether their birthdays have already happened this school year. ( source) Further reference within the comic: Panel 3

Technically legal drinking age is 18, but it's really rarely respected, maybe for stronger liquors. The area uncut grass is irregular, so it shouldn't have anything to do with court precision - maybe it's woods 'manifest zone'? Like how tic-toc was growing into something sciency.

No, I deleted my post so that I could add a second reference without having to edit, thinking that I would get it back up before anyone replied. You, however, need no help in seeming like a crazy person.

Not really pepo. My post here should have been in front of, not behind, xanbcoo's reply, but they got swapped due to some fancy timing in post editing.

Apparently the minimum drinking age in the UK is Who knew.

The cows don't like whatever "that thing" is. Diego didn't like Young. Diego built the court robots.
Therefore, "that thing" MUST be Young related!

Whoo, I come back from the lake an' there's two new pages, one of which is even featuring my favorite character. And for all this discussion of the drinking age, it can vary, not only based on the country, (Mexico's is twelve I believe) but the location therein. I'm not sure if it's just in Canada, but in the middle of the country, the legal age is 19, on the coasts and the north it's usually 21, and in Quebec it's 18 for whatever reason. Maybe it's different based on where you are in the UK, I don't actually know.
Also, I don't think that the laser cows have the mental capacity to not like that thing, whatever it is, they are still cows after all, and cows aren't very smart. Also they don't seem to be overly complex robots, I doubt they really have the benefit of conscious thought.

Wiki says 18 for Mexico. In Guatamala, though, it seems the legal drinking -and- purchasing age is 2. Do we have any Guatamalans to confirm this? My money's on 'typo' but it would be both hilarious and a little tragic if it's true.

It is a typo, Ulysses, but you will be given beer if you take it home to your parents.
Panel four feeds the homoerotic flames.

Im pretty sure the legal age in Mexico is 18 years, but its not endorsed, hell, a couple of days ago i went to my old Highschool and a group of 10-15 kids were drinking a six pack just a couple of meters outside the school...

Maybe I'm thinking of the purchasing age, although I know that the legal age is different for citizens and tourists. And it's good to know that other places have laws regarding substance abuse that are promptly ignored, much like marijuana usage is here.

You can't pass the test and then fail it later. The point of the Bechdel test is that a lot of works of fiction have /zero/ such scenes. Gunnerkrigg has plenty. The test doesn't say you can't have two women talking about a man, just that they ought to have scenes where they don't as well.

What peas said exactly. There's a difference between "must contain X" and "must not contain anything but X".

As peas and casey said. A single scene of two women talking about something other than a man is sufficient for it to pass the Bechdel test. Gunnerkrigg court passed this with flying colors from its second chapter already. Lots and lots of movies fail this though -- for starters, lots and lots of movies don't even contain two women ever talking to each other. See list here: bechdel.nullium.net/

Actually 18's the age at which you can buy alcohol (and then, only drinks, you can buy liquor chocolates at 16). You can drink at 16, as long as its with a meal, and at 5 for medical reasons or they're in private and under supervision.

That "thing" is so obviously a large boxbot. Or a boxbot statue. ... Something boxbot related anyhow. Someone needs to update another thread... The cows don't like whatever "that thing" is. Diego didn't like Young. Diego built the court robots. Therefore, "that thing" MUST be Young related! QED. I love it.

Actually I think the Kat and Annie interactions are pretty realistic. I talk to my friends like that, and I don't want to sleep with any of them. Atm. Also I was under the impression that all drinking ages when it comes to the home are at parental discretion.

Drinking ages are at parental discretion, but only after a certain age. You think a parent caught giving vodka to a two-year-old kid is going to have that kid around much longer?
I'm pretty amused that this whole drinking age thing started because someone said That Thing was a mini-bar. I'm hoping it'll lead to some sort of underground place for the duo to explore, although maybe that'd be too similar to when they found Diego's robot room...
Maybe it a tomb full of terrible zombies! People could have such a problem with that though.

I love the way Kat is drawn today, although Annie still looks a tad awkward.
And I don't think there's anything weird about the way they're talking to each other. I know lots of girls that talk like that.
