firstly, just let me say how increadably good this comic is. Seriously, thanks Tom, you make my monday/wednesday/friday (tue/thur/sat where I am) so much better.
Secondly, is it just me, or is the RSS feed a wee bit broken -all links direct to the main page -feed doesnt update in a paticurly timely manner (#589 hasnt shown up yet)
Thanks Guys
*hopes desperately that he hasn't missed a blatantly obvious thread explaining all this*

There was an old thread about this a while back. Basically Tom tried to set one up but it is a pain in the butt to make it work correctly. If you have some descent programming ability, you can hack one together with PHP, which is what I did. It is pretty slow, since it manually checks the most recent 5 pages and pulls the page notes from each. I still check the main website quite regularly, but the RSS is nice for recent archives.

thanks for the heads up, ill have a look into it, see if i can hack something together (PHP isnt exactly my strong suit)
edit: doing some probing, stumbled across this in the markup for the main page
<tr> <td width=50 valign="top"> [b]<a href="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=588">[/b]<img src="images/prev_a.jpg" border="0" alt="Previous" /></a> </td>
<td width=600 valign=top height=100% rowspan=2> [b]<span class="rss-content"> <span class="rss-id">[/b]<center><img src="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com//comics/00000589.jpg" alt="Chapter 23: Page 18" border="0" /></center></span> </span> </td>
(important bits bold-ed for effect)
i think the strife my be coming from the second <span> tag embedded inside the first. this is purely conjecture (as noted above, im a desktop programmer, not a web developer) but modifying the <span class="rss-id"> tag so it is either a) around the first bold-ed bit above OR b) removed completely
which would result in the following code:
<tr> <td width=50 valign="top"> <span class="rss-id"><a href="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=588"></span><img src="images/prev_a.jpg" border="0" alt="Previous" /></a> </td>
<td width=600 valign=top height=100% rowspan=2> <span class="rss-content"> <center><img src="http://www.gunnerkrigg.com//comics/00000589.jpg" alt="Chapter 23: Page 18" border="0" /></center></span>
</td>
edit 2: you could also add <span class="rss-content"> around your ad code (assuming that this isnt against your advertisers TOS)
