It's always paper-clips, that's why. I'm not sure why it always is, but there's always the joke about the errant robot being taken "for a walk", and shortly thereafter someone's office supply closet gains his exact weight in paper clips.

This whole episode has me eyeing my office supplies with great suspicion.

Note how she said "May I see him?" rather than "May I speak with him?". This is all guesswork, but... RobotS13 may not be utterly lost - if the robots were sensible, they'd upload the personalities, or at least memory recordings of damaged robots to some sort of database, and the admin simply interpreted her request to see Robot a bit too literally. Then again, "sensible", with these robots...

That was another thing that I certainly hadn't expected. (This is one of the things that I like about this webcomic; Tom always manages to surprise us in one form or another.)
It's even more of a loss for Annie than simply hearing that Robot had been taken apart - though maybe knowing what happened to him (even if it was being remade into a boxful of paper clips) is better than remaining forever uncertain. Still, no parent should have to outlive their child - even when the child in question was a robot that you re-assembled.

I can't wait for Wednesday. Is Robot really dead? I have to wonder what Annie will say to this; and why they keep all his metal in one big box of paperclips ready for the admin to summon at a moment's notice. Maybe the admin is the only secretary-bot here, and thus the only one that needs clips? Or maybe it's all a ruse (the doorman was pretty easy to get past, no?), and someone just wants Annie to THINK that Robot's dead. If so, have no fear: our hero REYNARDINE will see through the veil of lies and save the day!

Admin says "not the least for all the trouble he causes." This says, at least to me, that he's done such things before, so they can't crush him every time unless his memory is somehow saved, or his consciousness, or something. Or maybe this is a sort of punishment - like being paralyzed. He's still Robot, he just can't move, because his body is paperclips. Or maybe he's MADE out of paperclips, now, and his boy will rise up and be formed from paperclips. That would be AMAZING. Or -
Most of my ideas belong in the Wild Speculations thread. Sorry, sorry.

As others have said, *ouch*...
I hope for Annie's sake they didn't melt Robot down into paper clips! Otherwise we probably won't see that lovely smile again for quite some time.
But I remain hopeful. The blue stuff in the box may be a mass of paperclips, but hopefully it's Robot's intact head/brain/memory/whatever with some paper clips tossed in with it.
It also could be a mistake - maybe it was supposed to be Robot's head or something, but it's been removed and replaced with an equal weight of paperclips.
It's also possible Robot wasn't the only one that left GC grounds - maybe there's another that the administrator is confusing with Robot. Robot himself may have been only spare parts for that one.
...I hope Annie doesn't cry. Poor girl.

I think it's pretty obvious that the admin robot was just putting out the paperclips like PEOPLE would set out POTATO chips for a waiting guest.
HE'S GOING TO GO OUT INTO THE BACK AND SUMMON ROBOT ANY SECOND
;o;

Sorry, I hate to be a pessimist but I think Robot is well and truly... well, scrapped. He got hit by an uber-magic sword, remember? You aren't going to be doign a Ministry of Funny Walks after that.

Well in that case, 'tis a sad day for Annie. As I said on the comments page, I think I shall have to cry if I see Annie morosely perambulating away, antennas adroop, holding only a box of paperclips and broken dreams.
