(oh c'mon, you can't ignore the fact that this comic is at least SIMILAR to anime) Tom has said that he tries to incorporate something from everything he likes into his artword, and cited a few manga series (off the top of my head, Battle Angel Alita and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind) as being favorites. Of course, Tom has also said he's just as much influenced by Western artists like Jamie Hewlitt and Mike Mignola. I know. I mainly typed that part of the comment to make sure people don't post "NUH UHH. TOM USES HIS OWN STYLE!" And while that may be true, he still incorperates some anime...ic?...elements in his artwork.

I don’t see any specifically anime influences in his style. Or do you mean manga? But whatever the influences, I doubt you could identify any simple correspondences like “this facial expression implies that character trait“. For one thing, there is no neat classification into good guys and baddies in GC to begin with. Ysengrin might come as close to a villain as it gets, but we cannot really be sure about that. Even Antimony, our nominal hero, has her issues, and when she’s spiteful (as when she mad that unfortunate “just a ghost” remark), she doesn’t look like a particularly likeable character. Not at all.
