What's amazing is the number of people posting comments under the comic to the effect that Hyland is Annie's father.
I don't know how they could have missed the few dozen hints to the contrary, such as, oh, Annie's father being named Anthony?

And warrl, that's why I pretty much never read the comments threads. At least people who register here give some thought to what they're writing before they submit it.

- Also, the comment threads die quickly and rarely illuminate anything you folk don't already discuss here with greater proficiency.

Double physics would indicate Quislett is the tech house. How Annie ended up there is a mystery. (perhaps its was arranged by Anja). George Parley is Thornhill so that might be where they collect the "extra sensory" students. The ex forest creatures are in foley. Which begs the question what WAS Surma that she was originally placed in Chester? Simply being extra perceptive or even an ex forest critter wouldn't land her in Chester. Our two main examples Brinnie the Valkyrie and Zimmie the posessed are pretty extreme examples of mythic creatures. The name Surma gives us another clue. My guess is Surma is a psychopomp in mortal form... a death guide wouldn't need a death guide when she passed. This would cast a new light on Annie's parentage. A goddess of death would know of her own mortality and rather then inflict her passing on James she chose Anthony as the father of her child. Theres little indication of emotional attachment between Anthony and anyone and he's unlikely to be hurt.

I hadn't seen any of those comments, but I've seen enough similar ones that seem to ignore so much of the information already given in the story that I wouldn't be surprised if they *were* made.

Theres little indication of emotional attachment between Anthony and anyone and he's unlikely to be hurt. That would be a cool theory, but Tom's said dozens of times that Surma's not a psychopomp, just a human (albeit a medium). As far as I can tell, the name "Surma" was chosen because it's Russian for "Antimony." "Stibnite," Surma's last name, is the main ore of the element antimony—this ore is also known as "Antimonite." So basically, Antimony is the daughter of Antimony Antimonite (haha). en.wiktionary.org/wiki/antimony (expand the translations) Of course, I'm sure it doesn't hurt that "surma" means "death" in a few languages.
