Well, I was trying for the possibly important words, and there's a limit of 35 choices, so...

I wonder why noone picked "powerless", that was one of my possible choices.

I went with the obvious, "waiting". Another strong contender for me would be "time" (suggesting that Annie's and/or Jeanne's way is somehow determined, it had to happen eventually). What surprises me is that no one took "Jeanne" yet.

I doubt that Tom is talking about anything more than the emphasis in the text.

It's possible. If so, then he has successfully trolled us all. Bad Tom, bad.

I believe Tom enjoys seeing all of his fans try to figure out what the hell is going on, and if he can do something like that just by saying a few things, I'm sure it's even more amusing to him. I'm not saying he's cruel. I find the humor in this whole thing, I'm just hoping in the end he does tell us what the important word was, as it would be rather a cruel fate to be "left hanging", as they say.

I'm gonna have to go with waiting here. I think the rest of the chapter is going to have Annie have Kat use her hover-bike to lift her down into the Annan river again so that she can guide Jeanne to her psychopomp. Which makes me wonder...which one would that be?
I can't help but feel like I'm missing some really important detail here.

I doubt that Tom is talking about anything more than the emphasis in the text. I think that's the most likely explanation as well, especially since almost all of the comments at the bottom of the page are jokes, or at least light-hearted remarks.

Silly people, it's a trick question! The word is "one" in his little comment. It is part of the page, isn't it?
And I've noticed that Kat's hair is really starting to take off. I bet in a few pages it will be down to her waist.

I gotta say. That for embodiments of death, the most certain event in the entire universe, to say that they are powerless does have to count for something.

I gotta say. That for embodiments of death, the second most certain event in the entire universe, to say that they are powerless does have to count for something. Fixed your post for you. It's just a minor error

I say that there is no most important word, despite Tom saying otherwise. As a work of art the importance of individual words is subjective, and unique to each reader. All the exposition is significant as a whole, and parts may stand out more than other to different individuals, including the author. But the fact that after having read this page there is no consensus on which word is most important, means that there is no most important word, despite what Tom may say.
This assertion would be incorrect if later in the comic a specific word is found to be used deceptively here as a form of foreshadowing, but in this particular page no word seems to be potentially doing that.

I read it and thought "Bend" was the most important word, actually.
Maybe, of course, I'm weird and looking too much in to things.
Well, on second thought, this whole thread is looking too much into things. =P
