A side-quest with a big dividend, figuring out how to link tech to the ether. Omega's still on the loose and people are in danger, though. [edit] By The Way, if I'm not around for whatever reason anyone's free to make the thread. I often do it because I'm up anyway with insomnia but it's not my job or anything. Sometimes I'll be asleep, sometimes I just won't notice the time, and sometimes I'll be actually working on something. It won't offend me if someone else does it, not even if I get ninja'd and have to delete a duplicate thread. [/edit]

His new body body helped her a lot, it seems.

I've been getting serious Rankin Bass stop-motion vibes from Kat. I keep expecting her to break into song. "'Teamwork' Puts the 'T' in Transhuman"? "Sing You Larity"?

Omega's still on the loose and people are in danger, though.[/edit] I confess that I'm more interested in how to solve the "distortion/Court's schemes/Omega's schemes/every etheric being threatened" problem, but as I mentioned in another thread, Robot is a major character (goes all the way back to the first chapter - and has a prominent enough role in it that, with just a few tweaks, it could have been the start of a story about a robot traveling the world, searching for a new arm, with Annie and Gunnerkrigg being just the explanation for where he come from and to only make occasional return appearances in the webcomic), making it natural for his concerns to be addressed. (And we'd had an earlier "hold-up in solving the distortion problem" with the New Person who got killed and needed to be brought to Kat.) Not to mention that it would be like Kat to get so focused on Robot's situation to forget about the distortion problem (the whole "new bodies for robots" projects was itself a case that quickly stopped being "get a new body for Robot to replace the one that got recycled into paperclips" and became more of a "for its own sake" project).

There actually could've been a few interesting minutes after Robot initially crossed the bridge and before Ysengrin arrived. Since the Court makes them nervous there probably wouldn't have been any random animals or etheric creatures around there... with the possible exception of those taking the test. Any interactions with Coyote's shadow men would've normally been bad... but seeing as he just returned Shadow2 they at least didn't attack him. Maybe they tried to convince him to go back before Ys arrived? He was sort of easily-led back then and he didn't go back, though, so maybe he ran into someone/something taking the test who told him that maybe he could take the test in the opposite direction and get a new body part. Or maybe the shadow men told him about the test, either to distract him until General Ys got there, or as a long-shot hope for a new arm. I said years and years ago that there's enough room there for a side-comic and I stand by that. More topical: Once they have a chance to plan in a way that Omega can't eavesdrop, what do? They used Jen before to locate Zeta; that didn't go so well, but if Antimony hasn't figured out that something was off about that interaction they might try to use her again. I still figure Aata's gotten to Jen, so that'd go badly but would shed some light on what's been going on behind the scenes. If Antimony's wised up then they may use Omega's system to find Zeta... which as I said before will probably rip Zeta apart (but maybe in a way that's for the best in the long run). Alternatively, and probably a smarter strategy, they may try to neutralize Omega first... which Kat should be able to do easily and quickly now. After that, they can recruit more people to help either by finding useful people or as they rescue people in the distortion.

Happy (belated) Halloweenfrom Electronic Demon Kat = I do wonder what Annie's doing while all this is happening. Is Kat talking to herself, from her point of view?

Hi Tom, typo alert for this comic (#3014): the first speech bubble says "...your new body body helped..." #CrowdsourcedProofreading

Kat is explaining how Robot's volunteering for this experiment has helped her. Kat investigated the connection Robot's body had made with the Ether, which allowed her to reverse-engineer her own connection with the Ether.
Robot asks whether Kat can trust him after all he's done (I'm still suspicious that he hasn't confessed everything yet). Kat replies that she'll have to think about it, but then assures Robot that they'll find a way to make sure he pays, looking momentarily ferocious (Tom's note: "Spiky teeth emote"). Robot's bismuth crystal seems to fragment for a moment as he gets upset, but Kat assures him she's joking.
I don't know, that's kind of mean of Low-Poly Kat, isn't it? Anyway, there's still been no discussion about whether Omega can eavesdrop on this or the strange way Robot worded his worries, seemingly implying that there was more that he'd done to risk Kat's work. And we've sort of left the fact that Renard's being drained in the dust, though presumably he and Annie have been talking about it off-camera. This chapter's had a lot of twists and turns; I'm expecting some crazy development and an end-of-chapter antimony symbol at any moment now.

Kind of random and deus ex machina -ish that Kat can now interact with the ether. It was always something completely alien to her, and now out of the blue she suddenly can interact with it and it's just quickly mentioned

And she's been building and using devices that partially run on Ether for a long time.

Kind of feels like we just had a very long walk to a very short result.

WOW! I didn't remember that! It's true. I've been bummed out for the last few chapters on how much sudden, disruptive and unexplained Kat's Deus ex machina feels, but if she's onto it for a while it makes sense.
