It's a good decision to not connect these tendrils to the good computer until they know more about what's going on with them... and by more I mean everything, they're probably a little too good at connecting things to be secure as-is.

I wonder what Renard is thinking about. And so, apparently, is Annie.

Am I the only person here old enough to remember VINES networking or have I missed a reference?

they're probably a little too good at connecting things to be secure as-is. Connecting? I think the term you are looking for is 'rooting', particularly as the tendrils seem to have control of the Foley kids until they are renamed and restarted with a new sysytem ID.

It wasn't shown in the comic what was happening in the ether but I'm not sure how hard Antimony tried to convince the Foley kids to try to go back to their bodies. In fact, before they noticed Lavender was dead she probably didn't have been a reason to mention it so she may have only asked bunny boy; if Antimony didn't mention the danger (which seems likely) he might have said no just because quitting early would've been abnormal.

Fascinating that Kat is okay with the Seraphs gawking at her work. I couldn't.

Kat's found out that the tendrils allow mundane tech to access whatever their other ends are attached to, and they've decided to connect to this old PC of Kat's. So as she pulls that workstation out and opens it up, she talks about how she doesn't want to connect any of this to her main computer because of how the tendrils like to spread – at least, not yet, until she can figure out proper safeguards. And she goes into full swing, talking about a hardware interface and an interpreter. Tom's comment: "Regular teardown."
Meanwhile, some of the Seraphs have wandered in and are as usual in awe about how she works. Annie tells them they're lucky they're even allowed in here. But then ...
Then Annie turns to see Renard. Renard is sort of hanging his head with his eyes closed, saying, "..."
What's that about? Is Renard sad? Tired? Communing with something? Afflicted by something? What's going on?

Maxim #14: “Mad Science” means never stopping to ask “what’s the worst thing that could happen?” ... On the other eyestalk, Kat is this much closer to a more direct grasp of Ether, even if that’s still “broken phone” game.

At first I thought Kat's technobabble had put Rey to sleep. But on second glance, it looks more like a "you're meddling in things man was not supposed to... ah, nevermind, I'll just sit here and sulk."
But congrats to Kat for thinking a couple of chess moves ahead, just in case the vines have Borg zombie abilities.

I wonder if Omega is watching them, and if yes, what she thinks about all this. Perhaps, not being able to peer into the Ether, she's hoping to learn something new herself?

It’s too bad the Foley kids didn’t have a secure backup. That’s one heck of a ransomware attack. Side note: From what we’ve seen, the distortion doesn’t really add anything new. It can restore things that existed before (Jeanne’s ghost) and change inorganic things to organic things. Which has me thinking that the tendrils are a physical manifestation of something less tangible that the court has been using to extract ether from the Foley kids as a way to power the star ocean all along.

I insist: the seeds are not cables or connections, they are not a way to drain power, all this is consequential. Instead, the seeds are pure data.

If the tendrils are neither in whole nor in part the devices the kids were using, and I'm not asserting that I'm just wondering, then where did those devices go? I sorta doubt the Court would use etheric tech in those devices intentionally, but it's not impossible that the lack of oversight or a side-effect of the way the Foley kids were using them made them effectively etheric and they literally wandered off somewhere. Alternatively, enough time has passed that someone may have removed them either as an effort to safeguard the kids or for some other purpose, and that could be the case regardless if the devices transformed into something mobile or not.
