The tendrils appear to be some sort of Ether-net cables (I'll see myself out).

Not crazy about that "up her nose" angle in the last panel. EDIT: She looks like a different person.
But at least the tendrils appear to be benign.... for now.

Panel 6: I interpret that as meaning that the tendrils grown from the seeds aren't just USB-ing, they do contain some of the data that the Foley kids are/were working on, and it's data for interpretation... most likely weather data.

I predict that Kat will realize that she can plug the tendrils into herself for direct control of everything since she already integrated a biotech-interface into her own body.

Not crazy about that "up her nose" angle in the last panel. EDIT: She looks like a different person. We sometimes get these weird angles when Kat is going full-on Mad-girl Spark. "I caN IntERfaACe PLaNtS wITh TeCHNolOGy!"

Kat planted the data seeds and grew some tendrils, which attached to nearby devices, and Annie asked Kat if that was OK. Her answer? Yes, because they've attached to an old workstation that's not connected to anything. We see silhouettes of Shadow and Robot in the background, and Annie. It also appears not to even be turned on, because Kat turns it on and starts typing. Then she gets a surprised or amazed look on her face and tells Annie that she can access the data that the Foley students produced. Mostly it seems to just be numbers that need to be crunched or interpreted. But she sees an opportunity to take this further. She can use plain old mundane technology to connect to the tendrils. What else can she do with it?
Could this finally be a way for Kat to interact with the Ether via technology? The Court appears not to have realized all the implications of their deal with the Foley students, it seems – not only in the sense that it started killing the students once the distortion hit, but it granted Kat a backdoor into their etheric dealings. Wow. Is Kat about to bootstrap into the Ether?

Tom's comment is "Likely just a bunch of .cvs". Since these are data files I guess he means .csvs, being the plural of .csv (which is in fact a wonderful universal file format that I expect to still be used in 200 years). Unless they are versioned, in which case they may be CVS files, of the somewhat old-fashioned Concurrent Versioning System.

The way they're connecting gives my Borg vibes. That they're universally connecting to organics as well as electronics, isn't helping.

The court grew from the seed Bismuth. I wonder if these seeds are the seeds for the new world, connecting everything and providing data for the prediction algorithm.
Wildspec: The new world turns out to be the world we live in now.

Okay, I can't help myself, Kat looks really weird in the last panel. Tom's comment is "Likely just a bunch of .cvs". She can't, or at least, not so easily. Her chip is a Mac SoC, while the tendrils run on Windows-based systems only. Kat being Kat, the chip may be a Mac SoC (lots of them) but the OS is a Beowulf Linux Cluster. Also, I think the tendrils are not the ethernet cables (or wifi connection, they were using laptops). I think the tendrils are DATA ONLY, PURE DATA. If so, that death was not intended by the Court. They could not predict what things would turn out to be inside the distortion. So, the Court is still to blame, but it was not their intention the fairies would die. Not pure evil, just careless (for a change).
