I hold the same concern in that regard. In rehards to Bugsy's reaction to the book of names. This changes my perception of her a bit. I have been looking at this simply as the fae made a deal and the fae take contracts VERY seriously (which they do). This though has me now thinking that the court has deliberately withheld information and made the fairies think that the court is their only avenue to earning a name. Add that to the already skeezy knowledge that the court is the reason the fairies are born hollow and this just keeps on getting darker and darker.

"Not being a cruel person" means nothing (even if true) for someone as utilitarian as Omega has proved herself to be. She can be nice enough to allow the students to be disconnected right now after their life-long indentured servitude has brought upon the success of her plans. However, you just know that if there was a wrinkle in the system that made it so more of their soul juice is required... welp, nothing to do! It's for the "greater good!"

I hope Bugsy doesn't see this as an opportunity to bargain for the names. Her reaction to learning that the student might not get a name suggest otherwise, but it's been shown that she and the other fairies have very a unpredictable moral compass, so who knows what she might consider as a good reason to withhold a name?

I think that won't happen, simply because it wouldn't serve the current narrative. But it's entirely conceivable that a fae might decide to withhold a name if another fae had pissed them off or was just unlikable. I think though that forcing the court's compliance (however obliquely) is more important at this time.

Yes, everyone knows that narratively speaking, saying something like that is just asking for trouble. As for Meg.... I get the feeling that her personal Trolley Problem features the Foley students on one track, and the U.S.S. Gunnerkrigg escape plan on the other, and well.... "sorry, it's nothing personal" as she sends the trolley down the Foley track.

That would seem to fit her personality better...

There's something ominous in Bugsy's face in this page. Like Annie and Kat have handed her a flame thrower and wandered way. The phrase "bunch of pissed off fairies" has been sending cold shivers down my spine for a week or two now. Also I would very much like to know Annie's definition of "cruel".

Meg said it, she only wants to run around in the distortion. The rest does not really matter to her one way or another, she only moves people around because it’s a way to mess with Annie and hinder her attempts to shut down the distortion.

(I haven't been following the threads so idk if someone else said it already) Maybe this will have unforseen consequences, like maybe naming things is a human-only ability, or maybe giving names grants aether-based creatures more power, like how they're nameless mooks right now but as soon as you give them a name they become important, or something

Still, the former rabbit (jackalope?) was able to name <snuffle>, and still had to attend the classes like everyone else.

There's nothing she hasn't done/won't do to see their long-term plans succeed.

She also wants the Court to succeed. That means the distortion must be kept running until they have left. And even then, she seems to believe that the distortion lasting infinitely would be a net positive for those affected.

This is all well and good until she figures out compound names, then it's downhill all the way.

Because of the circumstances I think Bugsy feels empathy to the Foley kids and probably won't withhold names from them... ...after that, though, I wonder if at some point she'll run off into the distortion/wood/ether/wherever with the list and bargain names in return for living like a queen...

I think Bugsy will somehow not be up to the task; I figure after a while they will be back, and found her still in the same spot, jiggling and mesmerized by reading the names again and again.

There's nothing she hasn't done/won't do to see their long-term plans succeed. I didn’t see «beyond duty-bound» there. She definitely leans this way, yes. But it looked like almost an afterthought. Not necessarily anything more than just sunk costs and nostalgia for her old crush.

Bugsy is confused by the book of names (well, the stack of pages that used to be a book of names). She doesn't seem to have thought that such a thing could exist, a compendium of names one could just use. She looks a bit overwhelmed but says she'll do her best.
Annie says that they'll help find others who are in trouble too, so Bugsy can help them. She says she doesn't want what happened to the purple-haired girl, who died without a name, to happen to anyone else. Bugsy, who had been shocked by that just moments earlier, now seems to just shrug it off, fascinated by the name pages.
Annie then says that she doesn't think Omega will interfere with this, because although she wants the distortion to continue, she isn't a cruel person. That is, what they're doing here, freeing the Foley students so they don't die, isn't going to end the distortion in and of itself; Omega isn't going to prevent Annie from saving lives just because she likes to watch people die. We can briefly still see the bandaid on the back of Kat's neck.
