Half expected her to be a blank slate. Well, it seems she is. I always forget what a dumptruck Bugsy is. To be fair, the lady just woke up. She may be a few cores short of a CPU, but the ones she has aren't all online yet, either.

Half expected her to be a blank slate. Well, it seems she is. Well, either that, or maybe (just maybe) she just was poked awake, yet still feels tired, and tries to collect her wits while two girls shout contradictory requests at her.

I think the uber-cute Bugsy just woke up to one of my nightmares: "Quick! Wake up! We need to see your code, now! Why are there no comments! No comments in your code!!!" Also: Thank Bismuth, she's not dead.

Well, I'm glad to be wrong.
Now we just need a "She Explains" card, or just get Bugsy a stiff *coffee, tea, bagel, donut, whiskey, whatever her "gotta wake up" thing is*, and hopefully jump cut over the stuff that the audience already knows, we're kind of in a hurry here.
Even if she doesn't know that the Foleys are being drained (why would she let that happen?), anything she does know would get us one step closer to.... unplugging students, sabotaging the plans, something.

Also: Thank Bismuth, she's not dead. "Children are DYING, ctso74 Bugsy! They're DYING because YOU didn't format your code properly or add any clarifying comments! Now, quick, you need to help this teenager debug all 700,000 lines of the program you've been working (or really, procrastinating) on for the last 10 years, or THE ENTIRE WORLD WILL END!"
"And also, the break room's out of coffee. Forever."

My first thought, indeed! I was holding my breath. I like Bugsy a lot. And Red & Aylu.

How the heck is Bugsy suppose to show Kat her work when all the computers have been turned to vines and Kat cant properly magic?

Annie looks at Bugsy, concerned for her well-being and stating that she would have worked for the Court when she was younger (I mean, technically she works for the Court now, just as a teacher, but Annie means in the way the students are ... is she dead, the tendrils having drained her Ether?). Annie checks on her, and ... she's just asleep, Annie finds, with some consternation. She wakes up when poked (presumably by Annie) and recognizes her.
Annie tells her that the students are in danger, then Kat interrupts. She wants to know if Bugsy can show her the work the students are doing for the Court. This seems to confuse Bugsy.
What's Bugsy confused about? Kat wanting to see what exactly she's teaching the students to do? The students being in danger? Being called Ms. Bugsy instead of her actual name, Bugsy? Or all three? It's a lot to take in when you just woke up.
Hmm, does Kat think that if the students are doing math that's draining their Ether, she can be taught to do math that drains her Ether too and can maybe modify it to give her contact with the Ether in another way? Can Kat find her way into the Ether via math?

How the heck is Bugsy suppose to show Kat her work when all the computers have been turned to vines and Kat cant properly magic? Kat's vegified tech is still working though the teleporter is having issues. I think that should mean the tendrils should still allow someone else to connect with the Court's system in the same way the Foley kids are, or Kat can probably find an alternative to using the tendrils. It also means Kat could conceivably build some sort of etheric tech cofferdam around the Foleys that would protect them from the drain (maybe similar to the buoys that the Seraphs used to stabilize Zeta's distortion). Positioning it and assembling it would of course require extra steps... ...and therein lies my issue with this course of action. This is burning time. It has the potential to burn a lot of time and I'd think that Kat would be able to build an etheric tech cofferdam now without the data of what the kids have been working on. It would be useful if there's something else going on hidden in the work that the Court has the kids doing but that might not aid in liberating and protecting the kids now. I think I understand what Antimony and Kat are thinking in preserving the status quo, preventing panic, gathering information; they're looking for a safe way to help while not making the situation worse... but the kids are dying now. Their power levels must vary (else they'd have all died at once) but most of them probably aren't that far apart. Was Lavender just super-weak for some reason? Maybe, since she did die first, but other than that we don't have any reason to think she was. Someone had to drop first; maybe there was a special reason it was her... but maybe not. Maybe she's inherently way less gifted than the rest of the kids or she was really weak-willed. Maybe she was vamped by Omega. Maybe Lavender died because she tried to return to her body to go use the bathroom or something... but outside of malice* I don't see any reason why that would happen (and if I understand the situation there's reason to believe the opposite of that, she should bleed out slower). Maybe she was the only one in Foley that skipped breakfast, maybe she was coming down with the flu. Whatever happened I believe there's reason to think now that one's dropped the rest are probably close behind. The others were almost certainly experiencing a similar drain to what Lavender was; now that she has died I think the drain on the rest has slightly increased. The more kids die the less ether that's locally available and the faster the rest should be drained... and so on and so forth. Wanna check their classwork or look at the code? Okay, but why not have Kat do that while Antimony bwips the kids away to the wood elves or somewhere else safe? Antimony isn't going to be any help with the tech stuff anyway. Worried about the kids panicking? Distract Shadow and stuff Lavender behind a tree before having them go back to their bodies. Not astral-projecting and not playing around in the ether should slow the drain. Worried about sudden deaths from the kids returning to their bodies? Try freeing only one at first. If that kid suddenly dies on returning to their body, then it sucks to be them, but now they know there's additional steps involved and they can plan accordingly by trying to conserve their remaining juice instead of working/playing their lives away. [edit] I should add that even if the Foley kids are semi-metaphorically part of the actual mechanism that is keeping the Star Ocean going (more than just connected to but somewhat physically part of it) I would think that the Tooth could still separate them from it. The Tooth will set you free. [/edit] *The only reason I can think of that the kids would die on having their tendrils severed or otherwise returning to their bodies would be some sort of black programming by the Court to prevent their batteries from wandering off and interfering with something at a critical point in time... and I just don't see the need for it. All the Court's important stuff should be really near the Star Ocean by now, possibly already loaded on a ship; if the kids go closer to the Star Ocean they'd just be drained faster. Batteries go in cases, maybe there's a lid that screws on to prevent the battery from escaping but if it does pop out you'd want to put it back in, not have it self-destruct.

You assume everything is still working according to the Court's plan, but you don't know how much the distortion changed things up. The Court might have never meant for anyone ever getting drained completely, and they might not have meant for their drainage system to be lethal when removed, but who knows in which way the vegified tech has integrated with the (Court-made) bodies. Perhaps it's like pulling a knife (or maybe in this case the drainage hose) out of a wound and unless you have a way to close the Etheric wound they will bleed out - and way fast than the Star Ocean could drain them.
