Either Charles' pocket protector is looking at me or he's wearing a badge that looks like a Shadow Man badge.

I like how your avatar of Jones awakening is the perfect juxtaposition of this chapter. Jones's transformation to the woman she is today was natural, beautiful and cemented with her acceptance into society. While Omega's was unsettling, hit alittle too close to home, and ends with her utter alienation.

Either Charles' pocket protector is looking at me or he's wearing a badge that looks like a Shadow Man badge. It is. Is the badge a stylized omega? The feet of the omega becoming dots like so: Ω = . .
Or are the red dots Omega's eyes? Are all the red lights of the device her eyes now?

So, Charles and Omega are among the first, if not the founders, of the Shadow Men within the Court?
If so, there's fantastic symmetry across hundreds of years with two of their successors: Juliette and Arthur.
On one end, Charles helps Omega give up her humanity to become firmly ensconced in the Court, separating her from Charles via nigh-immortality. On the other, Juliette helps Arthur gain humanity to eventually find independence from the Court and be united in mortality.

Interesting.
Omega was certainly willing to go far to achieve an otherwise impossible future.
It's a shame Charles couldn't join her.

It's a shame Charles couldn't join her. Well... Charles probably could get someone to help put his brain in another jar in the same room with Omega... if he wanted that...

Next panel twist - after Charles' death, the Court mastered miniaturisation enough to pack Omega's body into a simple brick shaped case and even give it some mobility and arms.

Will Kat give Omega a NP body, and take this whole thing full circle? Next panel twist - after Charles' death, the Court mastered miniaturisation enough to pack Omega's body into a simple brick shaped case and even give it some mobility and arms. And it was terrible.

Uploading your dead/dying friends onto floppy disks seems to be having a renaissance in fiction lately, with the Rogue Trooper movie on its way as well

I wonder if Omega is going to serve as a warning call to Kat or as encouragement?
Also, Poor Paz. I still feel sad for her.

I wonder what method of communication she has, given their level of technology? Beeps? Ticker tape? RS-232?

Like the past few pages, this page is a single flashback scene. Charles is an old man now, having lost his hair, and his beard is long and presumably gray. The Shadow Men insignia is visible on his jacket, and he stands with the aid of a cane. He speaks with love to Omega, saying that this is the final step in the process and that it will mean that she will outlive everything including him and the Court. We see that he is standing in a room filled with machinery of some type, probably the machinery that sustains her mind even as her body declines and decays. Tom's comment: "Online."
I mean, who didn't expect that was the direction this was going? Omega's basically become a machine. Whether this is the "Omega Device" or whether the "Omega Device" that Tony and Don were talking about was something related but not the same, we still don't know. Does the modern Court know that this machine's intelligence used to be a person? Perhaps they've forgotten – either because Charles and Omega kept a lot of things secret from everyone, or because of the ethereal phenomenon that Arbiter Saslamel and his Interpreter spoke of, where others' memory of uncollected souls fades away? Charles seems to think that this will allow Omega to live forever, but he may not know of the fading-away thing, never having seen it happen.
What next? Do we see what happens after Charles passes away? Generations of Court officials asking Omega questions? Omega becoming perhaps discontented with the consequences of her choices? Omega only becoming more convinced that what she did was right? The event, and what it's done to Omega's ability to predict the outcomes of decisions? Perhaps what some of those decisions were? And is Omega telling Annie this, or are we readers and Omega herself the only ones who are meant to know this story?

Is it possible that the etheric computer that Kat's mom built is communicating with Omega, and it is actually Omega that produces the "magic" that the computer appears to cast?

And is Omega telling Annie this, or are we readers and Omega herself the only ones who are meant to know this story? Well, imagine if at the end of chapter 40, it had turned out that Jones hadn't told her story to Annie. It would not only be frustrating, but just bad from a story telling POV.

I wonder if Omega is going to serve as a warning call to Kat or as encouragement? Also, Poor Paz. I still feel sad for her. While Omega is telling her story, Kat grows irritated by all the side glances thrown her way "Come on, as if I would do anything as corny as that!"
If Paz was imagining Kat going to such extremes [EDIT:only forgot she saw MechaKat], how did she feel, leaving, trying to believe Annie will manage to keep Kat safe and sound?
We didn't witness Paz and Kat break-up discussion. We don't know if or how Paz expressed her feelings about Kat's chip implant, and how Kat received them. I expect the subject to be discussed soon.

It feels full-circle for Omega herself. When the chapter started, she was unable to see or move or speak through her own power because of how strong her connection to the ether was, and was forced to use crows as familiars or mediums. One of Charles' key intentions was to help her so that she could live a more normal life, but Omega chose to put herself back into that state.

So, Charles and Omega are among the first, if not the founders, of the Shadow Men within the Court? NO! Remember Jeanne (who predates them by a century) also wore the Shadow Men badge.

But we all know that Kat absolutely WOULD do something like that. She has already gone nearly as far as Omega and the only reason it looks any different is the advancement of technology. I don't know man. I have, thankfully, never had to leave someone because I couldn't stand to see them hurting themselves in some way. That's an emotional load I can't even imagine. I would definitely like to see that discussion and how Kat took it. I think Paz would have been doing a disservice to Kat if she didn't at least try to talk about the real reason she was leaving.
