She doesn't look like the type to have a personal vendetta against Annie.

Omega forging ahead with something important ("the girl who should not be") at personal cost feels like a dark mirror of Surma's decision to have Annie. Only, Anthony was still desperately searching for a cure, while this man knows there'll be nothing for it once it's done.
I'm also thinking of Kat and her body-hacking. Interesting to have these two ladies connected in this way, and connected again (somehow) via Zimmy.

I'm sort of wondering why she's so fixated on getting to the point where she can understand this event, where she's willing to have her body literally carved up (those lines on her face make me wonder if she's literally removing her very brain), sacrificing the happiness she's apparently known with Charles, and knowing there's no way of coming back from this. Like she knows the future, she knows what doing this is going to do to her mind and soul both. Does she really feel that much loyalty to the Court and to protect it from harm? It's hard to say given we've seen her interact with no one but Charles. Has it become an obsession for someone who otherwise knows everything to now have a blank spot in her gaze? I almost wonder in that case if she's been driven mad or is about to be given she's apparently gonna transfer her brain or essence or Etheric form or whatever, which will lead to a whole other set of problems. Does she perhaps have an obsession with immortality that she hasn't yet vocalized, given how she's aging and is afraid her mortal death would lead to more problems without her around to keep the Court in line?
It's been a while since there's been a character that has made me start questioning their motivations and purpose in the story.

It's hard to say given we've seen her interact with no one but Charles. Has it become an obsession for someone who otherwise knows everything to now have a blank spot in her gaze? It's not just a blank spot; it's her personal event horizon. After Annie's rescue, Omega's predictions become increasingly inaccurate, and there's no indication from Aata that they ever get better again. The fact of Annie's survival is literally the last thing she'll ever know. Omega takes pride in being a useful tool for the Court (and, by extension, for humanity in general.) If this is what she feels she's meant to be, it's not surprising that understanding and overcoming her limitations would be her highest priority.

It's also interesting to contrast this with Coyote's failure to predict or manipulate the future. Was that only because he didn't avail himself of the information because that would be boring, or was that also the interference caused by Annie's annoying continued existence?

Does it still count as "powered by a forsaken child" if the forsaken child grows up and actively wants to be used? Asking for a friendly eldritch institution.

Goddess damnit, we really don't need another fanfiction backstory for the Borg Queen!
It's also interesting to contrast this with Coyote's failure to predict or manipulate the future. Was that only because he didn't avail himself of the information because that would be boring, or was that also the interference caused by Annie's annoying continued existence? Coyote's whole plan hinged on Annie's existence. He made it up only many months after she survived the fall. All his predictions included Annie as an active factor. Most likely he looked as far as seeing Loup fall in love with a redheaded girl, assumed it was Annie as planned, and didn't bother to look closer.

Are we really so sure that the Girl Who Should Not Be is Annie? I know that Annie not dying sent Omega's predictions into disarray, but that "event" was engineered by Kat. Maybe it is Kat the one that is the issue from Omega's point of view.

Speculation that Omega has an issue with Annie feels incorrect to me. I think Omega wants to meet her, wants to see what kind of person can create the anomaly that she does and how/why. Technically I think she wants to meet both girls because while Annie is the catalyst, Kat is the actual cause. So far I don't get the sense of any aggression here.

"We must do more," Omega said in the last flashback sequence. In this one-page flashback sequence, considerably more time seems to have passed. Omega is now hairless, and it appears that a series of implants have been installed in her spine and the back of her skull. It appears that multiple layers of stitching and healing have been done to her head. Charles' beard is longer and looks gray or white (a bit hard to tell given the sepia-tone color scheme, though). Charles is once again trying to dissuade Omega from her course, saying that "the next steps" will be irreversible – given what Omega looks like now, I imagine that means more surgeries. "You've seen the results," Omega says – presumably the results of their efforts so far. Her goal seems to be to reach "the event" involving "the girl who should not be," and these ongoing procedures are the only way to achieve that goal.
To reach "the event" – does that mean bringing it about, or does that mean remaining alive (or some semblance thereof) until it happens? Well, assuming "the event" is still Annie's fall from the bridge, and that happened at the end of chapter 7. What's Omega been doing since "the event?" I guess we don't really know why Omega wants to reach the event. Due to the fact that Annie should have died but didn't, it's easy to assume that she's "the girl who should not be," but she's had that status for quite some time. Or doesn't she mean Annie?

I'm sure people assume that the girl Omega is talking about is Annie, because of what Aata told the girls a while back. But it may not be the case - it could also certainly be Kat, as she is the one responsible for Annie surviving. Her and her burb. Aata may have identified the correct event where the prophecies started to go wrong but misattributed the cause. Omega probably wouldn't be confused by this. She may be looking for Kat. Interestingly, too late to actually do anything to prevent the event, butt we don't know that the event is what she really cares about. Zimmy is another candidate for "girl who should not be", of course. But she may also be descended from Omega in some way.
If I knew how to add a poll, I'd add one with three names - Annie, Kat, Zimmy. Or maybe Antimony, Katerina, Zeta, or some other phrasing.

Incidentally, my vote would go to Kat - Omega knew where Annie was and tried to escape her, but you could view her actions as a search for Kat. She was quite happy to be in Kat's area, tip-toeing around, before Annie and Renard confronted her.
The bigger question is why she wants to find the girl that should not be. To kill her? To tell her to do something or not do something? This question applies whichever of the three she seeks.
I also have to wonder how much of other events she foresaw - did Omega know about Coyote? Renard? Loup? Those three are all arguably more impact-full than Annie and Zimmy and perhaps even Kat (though she did create a living race).
One more dark horse candidate - what if it is Lana that should not be? I don't know why that would be but it would still be consistent with Omega's search and other actions. Is there something bad about there being a girl that falls in love with Loup and redeems him?

It makes a lot of sense,it would be a pleasing little plot twist. Be prepared for lots of revelations about the Court, the Ether and Kat really soon.

Technically I think she wants to meet both girls because while Annie is the catalyst, Kat is the actual cause. So far I don't get the sense of any aggression here. Yeah I'm on Team "Omega TOTALLY wants Annie to exist to the point that she orchestrated Tony's improbable romance with Surma by having them watch slugs go at it". Like, Donnie and Anja were always happening, but Annie may have failed to exist had Surma and Eggs made a successful go of it, maybe had Anja's relative not kicked the can at the right moment. Annie has been described as inexplicably etherically attractive (by Mort), it's probably all the quantum improbability energy she carries in her very being. Not just the not dying because of a time loop, but maybe the other stuff too. And, from the sound of the previous page, Omega didn't want anyone else to know that Annie/Kat were her prediction singularity. She probably did not want them to prevent the event of Annie not-dying. I am not sure why she wants Annie to exist. My mind draws a blank. But she must know something (ha, a lot) other people don't know.

A detail that may or may not be of importance: when the forest invaded the Court, Shell let it slip that "Omega said". Not "Omega predicted" ou "A Report from Omega showed the following results", but "Omega said". Maybe the Court still consider Omega a person. www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2538

Now I'm wildspec-ing that they're going to turn Omega into Boxbot... the girl who should not be is messing up their predictions which is terrible. Therefore the girl is Boxbot. After feeling bad because Jeannie died and we did nothing, Boxbot started changing the future. She left open books, subliminal suggestions in Kats video games, etc to get Kat to save Annie. She hired some unemployed Rest of the Dead acyors to pretend to be Norns and trick Kat using the time Machine Boxbot built. And she is also manipulating coyote, loup, the court, etc to create a glorious future where 50 years from now boxbot will say "hello" and an old Grey haired and still alive Annie will say "What a nice and not at all terrible robot!"

Is there something bad about there being a girl that falls in love with Loup and redeems him? Lana makes a lot of sense actually. Her kind only exist because if Kat and we first met Omega with the other NP, she's the unexpected gum in the works that messed up Coyote's plan for Annie for fall in love with Jerrick, and last we saw her she might as well be in Schrodinger's box. That said, Annie still has the high ground for me - the Interpreter told explicitly told us (Kat) that neither Annie is the original from this version of the world.

I have a bit of trouble wrapping my head around the concept of predicting you won't be able to predict the future. Annie was supposed to die and Kat used time travel to save her. Did Omega predict time travel would be used, thus messing up with her predictive abilities? Does the ether (being "invisible") create more and more instability, as was said before there ? www.gunnerkrigg.com/?p=2606Can she predict several timelines ?
