For some reason, this image brought Diego's creations to my mind. I never considered it, but the mystery dark-haired girl could be on of the first robots, or something else Diego created.
Would Diego have placed a robot in the mix, in case the robots ascended to something more?

One rusty-looking gear. Or perhaps a large gear made of brownish stone. And no chapter-ending symbol.
As every chapter has a bonus page that also ends with a chapter-ending antimony symbol, this may be the first page of a multi-page bonus spread. The fact that it's a lone wheel probably means there'll be more mechanism on the next page, but what's going on? Well, a wheel by itself means one of two things: it's a fragment of a ruined mechanism that's broken apart, or it's part of a machine that's being built. Or, I suppose, both – reduce, reuse, recycle, save the Ether!
My wild speculation machine whirrs and proposes a few possibilities: Kat's Machine Angel mask suffered some damage during this chapter, and Kat emerged from it, so perhaps it's lying in the Ether, metaphorically broken and cast aside. Or maybe we'll see the broken remains of the real Arbiter Saslamel, revealing that the being who talked to Annie in the just-ended chapter was an impostor. Or perhaps we'll see the assembling of the metaphorical anti-Ether mecha-shield that the Court is building around their new planet via their actions, intentionally or not. But is any of this right, or are all these guesses off the mark? I guess we'll see!

Maybe this has been said, but could the shifty NP possibly be simply Zimmy herself, with clear, not-red eyes, hair free from static, face relaxed for once without pain and fear? Somehow in this distortion she is unaffected by the ether and exploring what that feels like?

Every other bonus page I checked has the marker on it, with the exception of ones that carry over several pages like Annie and Kat playing games. Chapter 55 has two bonus pages and only the last has the marker, but that was always it's own case. |
